  1. This plant, originally a New World species, long has become associated with Ukraine, a staple part of the pizzaz. It is produced commercially there and it grows practically everywhere in countryside.

  2. I’ve nothing to say about the state flower of Kansas. Instead, I’ll make another off-topic, open-thread recommendation.

I’ve never liked podcasts very much, but I listen to them more and more, because so many good ones are now available. I recently heard someone say that she could make far more money with a podcast than she could with a written publication. I don’t know anything about how that works, but I was happy to hear it. Previously, I’d figured that the podcast explosion was caused by the public’s failure to recognize the written word as a much more efficient means of transmitting information.

Anyway, this morning I listened to a podcast of Bari Weiss interviewing Tyler Cowen, who describes it like so: “It starts with inflation, but moves on to religion, the recent Florida law, and my favorite character in the Bible and why, among much more…”

I try to read and listen to people who have points of view that differ from own, and that includes Weiss and Cowen. They have different outlooks, but not ones that drive me screaming from the room.

  3. Are Cornflour on podcasts. I believe they’ve replaced weekly magazines. More timely, more interactive, and far less costly to produce and distribute!

Just months ago, the Tonga underwater explosion in the South Pacific was news.

We wondered about sulfer gas released and it’s impact on climate. Apparently, it was too far underwater to go directly into the atmosphere. Most was readily absorbed by the sea water.

But other amazing effects have been measured, like this supersonic speed shock wave! Making multiple globe girdling trips through the atmosphere!

The animations including the earth and Japan are quite something to behold. Dubbed a “once in a century” event.

But, I suspect, other event like it have not gotten the close attention and elaborate detection this one has….

Any nominations for candidates that people can recall?

  4. So the US Capitol Police evacuated the entire Capitol complex because of an unidentified aircraft that turned out to be a military plane preparing for the Washington Nationals Military Appreciation Day pre game show.

    I hope AOC is OK.

We’re in the best of hands.

  5. In response to this evenings aerial assault on the Capitol the US Capitol Police has announced the arrest of 100 more January 6th insurrectionists.

  6. Griffin;

First will be a thorough but unending search for White Supremacist Paratroopers in the US Army. They must be drummed out! Our Democracy is threatened!

A thorough comparison of the situation in 1st Century Rome and 21st Century America. Very erudite and entertaining. And kind of scary.

I used to enjoy his comments at the old free range Hot Air blog.
This was his final post – don’t know what’s happened to him since then.

“For decades people all around the world have asked the same question. How could the German people have fallen under the spell of Adolph Hitler. How could the Nazi’s have taken control of Germany?

Yale University Psychologist Stanley Milgram’s 1961 shock experiment, and the 1971 Standford [sic] Prison experiment both shed light on that question. But, both experiments failed in that, neither experiment took into account the teaching of Karl Marx.

  8. Daniel Greenfield – Moloch is alive and well and living in the woke city near you.

“Fantasies are supposed to be the business of children, but in the post-modern age, fantasies, supernatural, conspiratorial, political, and utopian, are all around us. And adults sacrifice children to utopian ideologies that promise that a better world is just around the corner.

All it will take is destroying childhood and then children.”
