Nickel and copper are both used in windmills and to transmit “renewable energy” to people’s homes.
Nickel is used to coat neodymium rare earth magnets to prevent corrosion. It is also used in general magnets as well as NiCad batteries. Copper is used in everyday products.
Mining in the US is generally safer and more environmentally conscious than in many other countries such as Russia China or most places in South America and Africa. Banning mining in the US forces these elements to be bought from places where workers and the environment will definitely be exploited.
Omar is for the destruction of the environment and against worker rights as shown by her statements.
It’s not like anyone really needs copper or nickel. Except for: wiring in walls; power, telephone and last mile internet cable; motor and loudspeaker windings; cookware; stainless steel alloys; high temperature alloys; anti-corrosion plating, plumbing, refrigerator and air-conditioner tubing; bullets and bullet jackets. And of course, virtually every piece of electronics. And the thousand other things I forgot or never knew.
Very much like the enviro-nuts who want to ban fossil fuels without giving up their polyester coats & yoga pants, multi-use water bottles & grocery bags, golf balls, lipstick and even toilet seats (at least in Britain).

However uneducated and ignorant, Omar reinforces the meme that the rich are the source of all our problems. Whether socialist and/or covert ‘soft’ jihadist… Omar foments societal division and its resulting societal dissolution.
Seditionist and traitor, she demonstrates the impossibility of being both a devout Muslim and a loyal American. As, Islam’s core tenets and American principles are not merely incompatible, they are unalterably antithetical.

She may…may be stupid. But what she is most definitely, is Muslim, and a pretty hard core sympathetic-to-our-enemies one at that.
Her basic premise is that the US is corrupt & should be dismantled from the ground up. She will always choose the path that divides one American from another & foments violent unrest within US society. I’m sure I’ve said before that she would gladly watch you die at jihadi hands & shrug it off as compensation for some imagined American sin done to other Muslims.
We mock her at our own peril. She’s a dangerous one that’s for sure.

Several comments explain well what nickel and copper are needed for. One additional area is for the infrastructure for EVERY aspect of wind and solar power. So Rep. Omar actually is strongly opposed to ‘green’ power in her statement on the mine.

It doesn’t. The Census Bureau finds 23,000 Somalis in the district, or about 3% of the district’s population. It’s a reasonable guess that their share of registered voters is lower. There are fewer than 150,000 Somalis in the U.S., not enough to form a majority in even a single congressional district.
The woman would, were these not the crazy years, have ample opposition.
Some other big uses for nickel; Hastelloy and Inconel alloys, sometimes referred to as super alloys for their high temperature, high strength, and corrosion resistant properties. These alloys are used in aerospace (jet engine turbine blades IIRC), chemical processing equipment, industrial gas turbines, and as the mundane non-magnetic drill collars and such downhole tools used for directional drilling in the oil patch.
The Sudbury Complex in Ontario has nickel, copper, platinum, and other somewhat useful resources. Wouldn’t want any of that in Minnesota!
It wouldn’t matter what sort of business it was. She would be opposed to a toothpick factory. The real common denominator is that she opposes all industry and capitalism, not because they are bad for the public, but because they are good for the public. Her brand of politics does not thrive in a good economy. She needs people to be poor, desperate, angry, and resentful.
Omar didn’t need Somalis to win her seat. Some voters would have assumed she was black and voted for her. Add them to the low info democrat voters and she’s in like Flynn.
The FBI and the IRS are after Omar. It is amazing she is a member of Congress. Minnesota is pretty good at changing there elected officials. Omar needs to get voted out.
