  1. Oddly enough, I guess, here I’ve gone through life thinking that having a conscience meant actively not doing crimes to other people, y’know, like murdering and butchering them, all the way down to not committing some minor slight or disrespect. Didn’t realize one gets a pass when acting out depravity.

  2. Great line from Brandon Fugal, owner of Skinwalker Ranch, referring to all of the hate directed at him on Twitter, to wit, “Twitter is the bathroom wall of the Internet.”

  3. And agreed, sdferr. The other question is why a post like this was considered a good idea, even on an open thread.

  4. Neo:

Please delete my May 10, 2024 at 9:33 am at the top – some Christians and/or Republicans are finding it unsettling, which was not my intent…

  5. Finally, one Parent is acting like a Parent. A 16 yr old that defaced a WWI Memoria was turned in by his Father. Where are the rest of the Parents?

  6. Karmi, I’m curious about is what you were trying to say.

That you got to know some bad people while in prison?

What’s telling is you didn’t rat out Vernon to the other inmates. Was your motivation self-protection? That nice fellar might have whacked you? I’m guessing you recognized his unstable nature.

  7. Karmi probably didn’t say anything about that guy because it wasn’t in his own best interest to do so. In a prison you need to be careful about what you say about anyone else–not that I would know for sure! But it’s similar to other male only spaces but with a less prudent population.

  8. Karmi, did you consider Vernon a psychopath? Cutting of someone’s breast isn’t normal– even for murderers.

Why do you say he had a conscience? How did he express his remorse?

  9. It seems sure that the younger generations will get their first history lesson on the Cold War in Hollywood film just before Labor Day, because the bio-pic “Reagan” debuts then, on August 30th.

The film will chronicle events in this best remembered President’s life from his Mid-West boyhood, to acting career, and his stint as Anti-communist President of the Screen Actor’s Guild. Then, his late 1960s Governorship of California, and his career topping two term stint as President confronting The Soviets, and ending the Cold War.

“We win. They lose.” Here’s The Western Journal’s account after a screening in Scottsdale, Arizona:

As one would expect, the Cold War plays heavily into the storyline.

The tale is told through the eyes of former KGB agent Viktor Petrovich, portrayed by Jon Voight, who sets out to explain to an up-and-coming Russian leader how Reagan helped bring about the demise of the Soviet Union in the 1980s….

Quaid’s portrayal of Reagan is strong, as is Penelope Ann Miller’s (“Kindergarten Cop”) performance as Nancy Reagan.

Apparently, we’re gonna get this Hollywood love letter to remind us of his great leadership in the past, just before the ugly business of a dirty campaign for the same office climaxes.

Will it serve as a purgative? Or a battle hardened reminder of what’s at stake today?

  10. Against The Law’: Jack Smith’s Staged Docs Photo Could Throw Major Wrench In Case Against Trump – Tampering with Evidence happens all the time under The Rule of Law.

In a recent court filing, Jay Bratt, the lead Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutor now assigned to special counsel Jack Smith’s team, admitted that the FBI brought cover sheets reading “top secret” to its raid of Mar-a-Lago.

“The allegation or the argument would be, they’ve tampered with the evidence they’ve affected its integrity in some material way. I mean, it would be as if they had messed with somebody else’s DNA sample or had smudged the fingerprint” ..

“And so if prosecutors and law enforcement are cherry-picking documents, and slapping these labels on it that says top secret where that label was not already there, it can be very misleading to the viewer,” Holloway added. “And if that viewer is a court, then that’s misleading a court and that’s against the law.”

In the weeks following the raid, a photo of the crime scene at Mar-a-Lago went viral. The photo, snapped by the FBI, showed documents sprawled out with several of the “top secret” place holders among the mix.

Critics of the former president seized on the image, wondering how Trump could have possibly unknowingly brought such clearly marked documents out of the White House.

  11. Poor Karmi is being repressed by Christians and Republicans. I hear a tiny violin in the background.

  12. Re: “Reagan”

    T J:

Thanks for putting that on my radar. Jon Voight, swoon, as the narrator, it’s got to be good.

I know I keep to the sunny side, but there really seems to be much cultural ferment working in our direction.

  13. America could use a good history lesson on the long conflicts between Islam and the West. And I do not mean just from the Crusades on, but the long conflict before that. Plus the history of the Ottoman Empire.
    Can’t go back to Constantinople.
But sure can learn from it.
Western Crusaders had weakened it, then the Muslims finished off the Byzantine Empire.
Seems I read one time that in the pre Crusade Muslim invasion of Spain, some of the natives sided with the Muslims, also.
They ended up running Spain for almost a thousand years….
    History repeats itself.

  14. Yes monaghans kingdom of heaven directed by ridley scott was too equivocal (he later wrote the screenplay for the departed.and body of lies

  15. I don’t know what’s more shocking – that they attacked the Magna Carta or that it was two women in their *80s*!

  16. I would have thought Dennis Quaid was more like George W. Bush — same Texas background, same grin or smirk. Quaid was supposed to play Bush in “Katrina: American Crime Story,” but the project was mercifully cancelled. Let that sink in for a minute: Hollywood tried to make out that Hurricane Katrina was a crime story.

Anyway, Quaid has grown up and has even become a gospel singer of all things, so who knows? Maybe he’ll make a good Reagan.

  17. well it was a crime story on the part of nagin blanco and the levee supervisors, but I’m sure that was not the way it would have been played, although the Clinton scandal was relatively balanced, surprisingly so, they played the same card almost a decade later with Hurricane Maria, even though Trump was much more proactive, only a few small players were caught up in the fraud then,

the protestor is one of these druid tree people, maybe she was CND back in the day

but clearly they hate the Magna Carta and any check on a tyrant, which they only think Boris Johnson was wrong for the wrong reason,

Another good reason to venture over the mountains to the wet side of the state.

The sail of the USS Parche (SSN-683) is pictured in the video. It was a nuclear powered spy sub (tapped USSR underwater communication cables and other stuff) before being decommissioned in 2005. The reactor compartment was chopped out of the hull and is now in a very large open excavation at the Hanford Site with at least 50 others.

  19. Miguel Cervantes:

A vicar who took part in a peaceful Extinction Rebellion demonstration outside a Ministry of Defence site has had her conviction quashed.

The Reverend Sue Parfitt, 80, was among protesters who blocked entrances to Abbey Wood, in Filton, near Bristol, in December 2020.

She was fined £250 and ordered to pay £500 costs.

In her appeal, Ms Parfitt said justice and issues around climate change are “at the heart of Christianity”. ……

Church of England continues to find new and interesting things in the Old and New Testament. Not sure exactly what they are worshiping. “Flip Wilson Show -The Church of What’s Happening Now” wasn’t just a 1970s thing.
