  1. Reacher has Reached the end of the line
“Alan Ritchson Doubles Down on Cops, Attacks DeSantis.”

  2. Is she singing the bass line up one octave? I know a woman who can sing the soprano, alto, and tenor lines as written.

  3. sdferr, thanks for the link about Ciaramella! His picture in the article looks like an arrogant commie.

  4. Brava!! I remember the first time I ever heard this piece, and it brought me to tears.

  5. What are the odds of quadruplets who can each sing in a different vocal register! 🙂

    And such a beautiful passage.

Good to know the source. I first heard it when I first encountered the sublime Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Big Lebowski’s sycophant:
    __________________________________

Big Lebowski: What makes a man, Mr. Lebowski?
Dude: Huh? Oh, I… I don’t know, sir.
Big Lebowski: Is it being prepared to do the right thing, whatever the cost? Isn’t that what makes a man?
Dude: Sure, that and a pair of testicles.

  6. “I remember the first time I ever heard this piece, and it brought me to tears.”

Appropriate, given the title. (Lacrimosa means tearful.)

The prevailing view is that Mozart only wrote the beginning section, through that rising passage. His student Sussmayr finished it after Mozart died. I recently commented on another blog that I noticed a similarity between that section and Mason Williams’s “Classical Gas.” Williams repeats the first part four times versus Mozart’s two, but then has a similar rising sequence. I wonder if he knew the Lacrimosa.

  7. Is she singing the bass line up one octave? I know a woman who can sing the soprano, alto, and tenor lines as written.

I wondered the same. I’ve never seen the sheet music.

Maybe five years ago, I could’ve sung the upper 3 voices (if she’s not modifying the tenor); but too many sopranos and not enough altos in my choir have meant that I’ve been stuck on alto for several years and have lost half an octave or more of upper register. (I like singing alto, especially if the computer or arranger gives us something to DO! Harmony parts are fun as long as You’re not just singing the alto D all the time.)

But things have happened at my church, so I’m shopping. Might have to work on the high notes again before I join another choir… just to see if I can, you know?

  8. My Tshirt call of “[Democrat logo] HATE America FIRST!” has gained fresh currency.

With “Biden Unveils Official Campaign Slogan, ‘Death To America!’ “
again the Bab Bee tells us the unalloyed truth.

    EXCERPT
“After weeks of considering alternatives such as ’Allahu Akbar’ and ‘From The River To The Sea’, Biden chose ‘Death To America’ for its inclusive messaging. ‘It’s a big-tent slogan that encapsulates the heart of the Democratic Party,’ explained Roscoe. ‘Maybe you want to bankrupt America through entitlements – death to America! Maybe you want to murder the next generation in the womb – death to America! Maybe you want to brainwash children into a suicide cult that amputates healthy organs – death to America! Maybe you’re an Islamist terrorist that want to literally bring about the deaths of Americans – death to America! Everyone who wishes the destruction of this country is welcome in the Democratic Party.’ “

  9. Kate/Jamie – she sings some of the bass notes as written, then jumps to the upper octave when the part goes below her range. It is very smoothly done and surprisingly (to me at least) doesn’t degrade the music.
