  1. Official Uvalde report out. Failure of leadership. But no leaders at fault named.

Nearly 400 cops standing around doing nothing but using hand sanitizer.

The school district cops and Uvalde cops need to be fired today. Maybe the deputy sheriffs. No pension. Misconduct.

One interesting note is that the school was frequently on lockdown because of all the illegal aliens roaming through town.

We are in a near complete societal breakdown. And the Mayor of DC is bitching about how Gov. Abbott is sending the illegal aliens to DC. The White House has some empty rooms. House them there.

  2. Just came across a new woke term this morning: “neurodivergent”. The political destruction of our language continues.

  3. Perhaps people saw this over the weekend.

The First Lady, 71, spoke at a fundraising event for the Democratic National Committee in Nantucket, Massachusetts, on Saturday.

‘[The President] had so many hopes and plans for things he wanted to do, but every time you turned around, he had to address the problems of the moment,’ she told donors at the event.

‘He’s just had so many things thrown his way,’ she added.

Jill and her hubby were so looking forward to having a good time, and then this … work! Can you imagine the disappointment? This work cuts into the joy rides on Air Force One and partying time in Paris and Oktoberfest. It’s so unfair. First lady Hillary got to spend weeks touring Africa with her enormous entourage.

  4. https://www.thecollegefix.com/arkansas-university-eliminates-25-degrees-fires-67-professors-due-to-financial-crisis/

The state college in question (which the state government insists on calling a ‘university’) has about 3,000 students. Given the usual ratio of faculty to students, it should have had teaching manpower along the lines of 230 faculty (FTE). Given the distribution of interest between liberal arts and mechanical arts and the distribution between subjects within each, they shouldn’t have had more than about 25 degree programs in toto.

  5. Just came across a new woke term this morning: “neurodivergent”. The political destruction of our language continues.

Don’t think that’s a woke term. We have a shirt-tail who favors it. Seems to think being on the spectrum is a good thing and fancies a menu of her proximate relatives qualify. That family’s a bit of a bubble.

  6. @cornholio – Did you even read the report, lack of coordination was definitely laid at the feet of Chief Pete Arrendondo, including the fact that he should have known better, having gone through Active Shooter training

    ———————————
In unrelated news, Armed Hoosier Stops Mall Shooting, take that Nebraskans…

A right place, right time coincidence, but good thing the good guy ignored Simon mall “no guns” policy, or we’d be talking about a different casualty count.

    https://www.wthr.com/article/news/local/4-dead-2-wounded-in-shooting-at-greenwood-park-mall-police-said-good-samaritan-shot-and-killed-shooter/531-df15bbf5-8eca-4220-b149-7de4735fbe37

  7. Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders OWNS 3 houses. Certainly such a compassionate man would be willing to host some homeless people in those homes.

    No?

I guess there’s no graft for him in actually ACTING on his – supposed – “values”.

Former Sen. John Kerry could show some compassion too. The hieress he married owns a lot of real estate.

  8. TommyJay, I saw that absolutely pathetic piece, but at this link:
    https://www.nationalreview.com/news/jill-biden-problems-of-the-moment-dashed-president-bidens-hopes-and-plans/
Dr. “I-love-the-smell-of-Tacos-in-the-morning” has a way with words. Indeed “…problems of the moment…” is a most creative way of putting it.
(Wonder which “moment” she’s talking about.)
One of the more impressive things about her is how fast she’s learned how to play the Blame Game:
‘First Lady Jill Biden defended President Biden’s stalled agenda on Saturday, blaming Republicans and a series of crises from keeping the president from carrying out his plans….
‘…“[The President] had so many hopes and plans for things he wanted to do….’

    Absolutely pathetic…but entirely expected.

  9. Zenman:

It is MR. Cornhead to you.

No, I don’t care to read a CYA report. The troops were just following orders from their idiot so-called leader. What ever happened to American initiative in the face of danger? Courage.

I should have just trashed those Texas cowards. Hoosiers, New Yorkers, Gophers, Hawkeyes, Jayhawks, Sooners are all braver than the Yellow Cowards of Texas.

I don’t know what’s worse. The cowardice of the cops on the scene or all the butt-covering by their bosses. They should all be FIRED.

  10. JimNorCal, yes: a whole set of coleus plants.

I like coleus; each season, I have a couple of pots’ worth outside along with whatever else. One thing that’s nice about them is that they do all right in the mostly-shade environment of my little patio. They’re also easy to take care of, I find.

  11. Apparently the post-Columbine rule is to take the shooter out ASAP. The first three cowards (er, cops) should have moved on the guy and shot him dead. No need for leadership, training, communications or coordination.

  12. Steve Bannon’s trial began today. Jury selection first day. They will be 98% Democrats, like the Sussmann trial. The judge has ruled out all Bannon defenses as the jury is “not equipped to judge legal issues.” I don’t know what he will be able to say. I assume it will quickly go to appeal. DC Circuit, of course. Packed by Obama.

Peter Navarro will be the same issues.

  13. Every single Omaha cop and fireman is effectively a millionaire. That’s because they have a defined benefit plan that pays them a percentage of their final salary, with adjustments, for the remainder of their life. And, I think, their spouses.

$1m at 4% interest yields $40k. The cops and firemen are all retiring at more than $40k per year.

I had a high school classmate who worked for the crime lab of the Douglas County sheriff’s office. The pension is not as good as the Omaha police, but still good.

My Jesuit high school classmate framed some guy with blood evidence. He got caught. Felony conviction. Sent to the state pen. Big civil judgment rendered against him. Files Chapter 7. Moves to CA. Pension safe.

The average person actually has to save up $1m post tax with investments or, let’s just say, all cash to get a pension of $40k.

We expect our cops and first responders to be brave. That’s part of the trade. Quid pro quo.

One of the Latin teachers use to taunt us and say we’d be digging ditches if we didn’t learn our Latin. Better to not learn the Latin and join the fire or police departments.

  14. Exciting news from the Laubach household: Our Starlink receiver has been installed. In this rural area with no cable, we can now get an 80Mbps internet connection.

  15. I should correct the record here. My classmate didn’t file for Chapter 7. He doesn’t have a pension. I guess he lost it when he went to prison. Or maybe it was a 401k. He’s living on Social Security.

And he should have joined the Omaha Police Department like his dad.

  16. I would have thought Nebraska LEOs and firefighters were all unpaid volunteers, not like those cowardly Texans! 🙂 really 🙂

  17. Cornhead,
Don’t forget that cops usually max out overtime and perhaps other salary boosters in their last year on the job. Sometimes that final year salary can be doubled. It’s not like anyone is looking out for the taxpayer, and the unions are absolutely scheming against the taxpayer.

  18. But enough (?) about the virtue or lack thereof in Nebraskan or Texan public servants. What about the cosmic injustice of a trans-woman with testicular or prostate cancer, or a trans-man presenting cervical, ovarian, or breast cancer? In such cases would their surgical rearrangements have not been “radical” enough?

It used to be known that many, many men die with prostate cancer. No longer the “case?”

  19. If you remove your coleus, has your house had a coleuctomy?

Inquiring minds actually don’t give a damn, to be honest… 😀

  20. }}} the unions are absolutely scheming against the taxpayer.

It should be illegal to unionize if you work for the government.

Who the hell are you organizing against? The rapacious government? That’s supposed to be a contradiction in terms.

  21. “It should be illegal to unionize if you work for the government.”

I am OK with organizing about work rules and such like.
The Union should NOT be allowed to donate to political causes or politicians. But individual members, of course, should be free to do whatever with their own money.

  22. On the topic of english muffins: neo mentioned a while back that Thomas’s aren’t as good as they used to be. (My experience is that if they are fresh from a fresh package, they’re acceptable, but otherwise they are terrible.) I saw a brand I had never seen before: Bay’s, so I decided to try them. They are quite good! They toast up very nicely, very crispy on top (though still a bit soft inside; but not gummy like Thomas’s get). They’re made in Chicago.

I found them at Crosby’s in Concord, MA, one of those little stores where the prices are super high but they have a few things it’s hard to find elsewhere, including bialies (which they also have at Donelan’s by the way, although you may have to ask).
