  1. Happy Saturday, Neoland! I hope all have a great day. It’s supposed to hit 60 degrees in my neck of the woods.

  2. Very good.
I believe that dogs can hear sounds at certain frequencies that we do not hear. My question: did the dog like the music? My guess is that it did like the music, as it didn’t get away from the music, but instead got closer to the TV.

High 70s here. Lot warmer than it was last week.

  3. Since this is an open thread, I found this reinforces what we say here about the almost complete separation between left and right. Republicans’ top concerns are illegal immigration, lack of support for the police, high taxes, liberal bias in mainstream media, and economic damage from COVID-19. Democrats worry about the spread of COVID-19 infections, Donald Trump’s supporters, white nationalism, systemic racism, and economic damage from COVID-19. Only one point of agreement there.

  4. Our fine hunting dog gets a lot of outings so that the partner can play the Steinway. When he is in the house and the playing starts, he gets agitated and tries to climb onto the piano bench. A few bars of “Chopsticks” will get him howling in short order, he looks so cutely perturbed, almost worried, and the howls are very varied in tone. So out we go on another outing in the fields around the farm so that the piano player can get in a practice session.

It’s specific to this dog, we previously had a shorthair from the same breeder who loved to lay under the piano and docilely listen to the playing, never heard a howl out of him.

  5. Kate,

Not only that, but 4 out of 5 of the Dem’s concerns are gin’ned up issues; greatly exaggerated and conflated. How do you successfully battle with an enemy who is fighting imaginary beasts? How do you caucus with Don Quixote?

  6. 70 degrees and overcast.
Typical winter day in the Big Thicket.

We have 2 dogs. One seems to watch TV. Other one doesn’t but she’s the second child … you know how they can be.

  7. Around here there are two types of dogs: those which like to chase snakes and those with a fetish for parked vehicles. Population in the first category experiences considerably more churn.

  8. Those mischievous Racoons! Went down Gazebo to get a scoop bird food that I keep in cooler to feed the birds. Something chewed the drain plug off and made a big mess. I know it was that mama and 2 babies. And they give that little kid look … It wasn’t me!

  9. There’s an entire genre of wild hog trapping videos on YouTube. Real Battle of Minds stuff.

  10. I really like the word ‘efficacy’. In the devolution of our times, it’s been nearly wiped out by the ‘effectiveness’ abomination. But I’m happy to see that a press release I was just reading used the good form! In my line of work, efficacy or its lack is a common concept, so this seems to be in the way of becoming one of my little litmus tests with which to assess a person’s savviness with the English language. And it can be done so quickly! In that, it’s just like a real litmus test.

Rufus, was it you who talked about tumbleweeds downtown? “Tumbleweeds rolled down Randolph” could make a decent song title. I’m wondering how the museums and stuff are doing.

  11. All my GSD’s – and the Abyssinian – love hearing the piano played – doesn’t matter if it’s talented daughter or my pitiful plunking. When daughter plays the cat will come sit on the bench with her. Animals seem to like acoustic music and tolerate – to one degree or another – recorded music. But I’ll never forget the day Helter Skelter popped up on the playlist and the dogs couldn’t run out of the room fast enough. Tried it again a few days later and got the same result. Strange, dat.

  12. Something that could belong here

Joanne Nova tackles recent polling data about how radically divided the nation is. Trump voters are passionate about issues, while Democrats are heated up over…Trump voters and racism:

“Herding the Democrat school of fish toward civil war”

“Hypothetically, if someone were trying to divide a nation this survey is Paydirt
It’s almost like a team is winding up the young and impressionable, stoking their fears. Republican Voters worry about policies, but Democratic voters are just scared of Republicans.”
    Segueing to this:
    “ Matt Margolis, PJ Media

“According to Kristen Soltis Anderson, the cofounder of Echelon Insights, Democrat voters are more concerned about “Donald Trump’s supporters” than anything else….

“Democrats are less concerned about policy issues than they are about people with whom they disagree politically. To them, Trump supporters are more dangerous than Islamic terrorists, a more pressing issue than gun violence, and even more important than issues that affect their various constituencies, like discrimination against LGBT Americans, sexism, student debt, alleged voter suppression, etc.”

    The nation is toast.

    Leonard comments:
“ Everything you say is true, Democrats are afraid of Pres Trump and they believe other MSM & Tech Giant propaganda against Pres Trump and his supporters.

But look at the 39+24 = 63% majority of Democrat voters against Capitalism. This is so scary! Does this mean a majority of Democrats want Socialism and/or Communism?
I think it does. Our school system has been taken over starting with the Frankfort School in the 1930’s and continues through Pres Roosevelt’s New Deal & WWII, through the 1960’s and exploding again under Obama. The most recent blow to freedom and our way of life was the Democrats stealing the 2020 election and promoting the insurrection using the MSN & Tech Giant propaganda to coverup the ANTIFA and BLM riots and the radicalization of our federal courts, and the Democrats blaming anything and everything on Pres Trump and his supporters.

I hope and pray that our freedom and way of life is not permanently ended. I ask you and your readers to pray for restoration of freedom in the USA.”

  13. Get ready for a Democratic Dr. Feelgood — the left-wing state legislature has legalized marijuana.

    https://redstate.com/alexparker/2021/02/28/never-thought-wed-see-the-day-a-southern-state-legalizes-marijuana-n334829

The Dems are framing this as a “justice” bill. It’s obvious they want those tax $$.

“This moves us in a…direction to strike down and to address those institutional barriers, and over-policing, over-arrests, over-convictions of African Americans who do not use marijuana at a higher rate than our white counterparts, but [who] seem to get the brunt of criminal convictions.”

I’ve also read somewhere that Biden admin have waived something about people in the new admin that toked in the past being … OK.

Federal law may be coming before we know it.

Upside buy NASDAQ: TLRY on the dip …

  14. @jack:

Perhaps Bill Maher inadvertently groped an intern on the Road to Damascus?

Still, even the nuttiest of nuts can be right about some things sometimes.

  15. Rufus @ 8:47 PM,

Yes, he did. I watched the highlights and the ending on C-SPAN. What did you think of it?
