Whatever happened to immigration?
The relative quietness on the southern border – both because of Trump’s policies, and then the effects of COVID as well – has made it almost a non-issue in 2020. And that’s too bad for Trump, in a way, because the energy of that battle was a great part of what propelled him to victory in 2016.
I was thinking as much last night, and then today I saw this article on that very subject.

Steve Moore spoke in Omaha this week. He said that China is where Japan was in 1926. And, of course, Joe was bribed via Hunter by the Chinese.

No. Harris labeled it a “Muslim ban,” in a way that was anything but offhanded. She was looking directly into the camera when she made this false claim, and she was quite vehement about it.

Why no mention? Because Trump largely got his way. The wall is being built. He got Mexico to start breaking up the illegal convoys from Central America and most important asylum seekers have to wait in Mexico for a decision. So they cannot disappear in the interior of the U.S. ICE started a serious effort to deport the law breakers and it was harder to get back in with the wall.
Then Trump suspended all immigration using COVID health emergency and the panic porn doctors couldn’t argue against it. DACA was back burnered after the Supreme Court returned it for a technical reason. When it comes back to them it will be overturned and then Trump will offer the grand compromise to fix our immigration system more to his liking. Ie. quality over quantity.
The LEGAL immigrants like this as the chaos and crime in their neighborhoods is diminished. It is less likely that they are looked at as a possible illegal alien. So the open borders crowd is holding their fire waiting because they don’t want to lose the supposed “locked in” democrat vote.
I always thought that if you put these poor unfortunates into rich suburbs and have the kids enrolled in these school districts in the name of diversity and anyone who opposes this is a racist, the open border ardor will rapidly shift as THEIR kids have to mix with THOSE kids. Also the academics will go down which will really set the Karen’s off.
All this goes out the window if Biden wins. The wall will stop being defended and it will be wrecked by the pro-immigration forces. The flood resumes and anarchy reigns in the poor neighborhoods. What’s not to like if you are a virtue signaling Nancy.
The issue of illegal immigration will return, as soon as a democrat returns to the W.H. Nor, as noteworthy as Trump’s efforts have been has the issue been solved. To do so, go after the employers and end the benefits. No jobs + no benefits = self-deportation.
Partly this lack of focus is because the issue is essentially settled.
If Trump is in the White House, the ratchet will turn, and illegals will be squeezed out. If Dems come back to power, the illegals will be legalized and all Trump’s efforts will be rescinded.
The issue is not in doubt anymore.
The result is still totally in the air.
Immigration was meant to be the 10th question during the VP debate–but the clock ran out.
Emigration reform reduces collateral damage at both ends of the bridge and throughout.
Wasn’t there another Central American mob headed this way, last week? I read somewhere that a wave of a couple-thousand Honduran migrants was stopped in Guatemala and turned around and sent back last week. Timing looks like it was set up for around early November.
Trump’s ICE and State Dept. have probably figured out how to get intelligence on the ground in place and work diplomacy so that these things can be handled quietly and defused before they just turn up in Mexico, when it’s too late.
