The Babylon Bee outdoes itself — 20 Comments

1. Snopes mopes and is snippy.

that much cleverness would go after the SPLC

Knocking down a few warlock judges in the for-profit “non-profit” diversity racket would indeed be a positive development. Revoke their liberal license to infer intent and label people with color judgments.

2. While Orwell used the phrase, it was previously used in Stalinist propaganda, with the claim that the five-year plan could be fulfilled in four years.. 2+2 -5 – though this was not the first instance of “2+2= 5.”

The Soviet Union began its first five-year economic plan in 1928. Its goals were ambitious from the start, seeking the immediate transformation of the USSR into an industrial nation. The consequences for underperformance during the plan were severe; managers who admitted missing their targets, even as those targets were revised upward, could be charged with the crime of ‘wrecking’.[19] After statistics from the first two years indicated that the plan was ahead of schedule, Joseph Stalin announced that the plan would be completed in four years.[20] Propagandist Iakov Guminer supported this campaign with a 1931 poster reading “Arithmetic of an alternative plan: 2+2 plus the enthusiasm of the workers=5”. Stalin declared the plan a success at the beginning of 1933, noting the creation of several heavy industries.[21] George Orwell may have been influenced by this poster.

Snopes does have a point: what is intended as satire on progressives often comes very close to what progressives actually have said.

Keep it it, Bee of Babylon.

3. The Bee buzzes facts to satire. A good example is Biden who is infamous for speak truth to facts, and “fact checkers” that deserve a couple of straw clowns.

4. It’s my impression that the Left is predominantly anti-Christian, and often ridicules them as ignorant believers in a sky god. So it turns out that the Babylon Bee is “a satirical evangelical Christian website. The site is famous for over-the-top fake stories focusing on well known pastors, celebrities, and politicians.’ The Bee posts some of the most brilliant satire I’ve ever seen. The icing on this cake is that Snopes was fact-checking some of the Bee’s posts — because they didn’t get that it was satire! How perfect is that?

5. Snopes was fact-checking some of the Bee’s posts — because they didn’t get that it was satire!

Ironic, yes. That may be, but Snopes Mopes Snippy relations claims that the Bee’s satire may be misinterpreted as real and trigger people. This would be sufficient cause for Cloudflare, Twitter, or another platform to preemptively deplatform politically incongruent voices.

I’m sure Rebecca Makkai would be among them.

7. Wonderful. Now if someone with that much cleverness would go after the SPLC

Assistant Village Idiot: Done and done!

MONTGOMERY, AL—In an update Wednesday to its Hatewatch blog, the Southern Poverty Law Center announced the newest addition to its authoritative list of hate groups: the Southern Poverty Law Center.

“We have identified an organization with a clear history of rank intolerance toward faith communities based solely upon their sincerely held religious convictions,” the statement reads. “This organization has encouraged ostracism and threats toward people, politicians, and businesses that do not adhere to its rigid progressive agenda. It has existed and operated right under our noses for years. It is known as the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).”

8. The Bee seems to have changed their “support us” blurb at the bottom of each page.

Readers of the Bee,
If you value The Babylon Bee and want to see us prevail against Snopes and anyone else who might seek to discredit or deplatform us, please consider becoming a subscriber. Your support really will make a difference.

9. We NEED more conservative, effective anti-PC humor.
Politics is downstream of culture – and humor is (part of) the cutting age of culture.

AVI just republished an interesting take on Doonesbury:
http://assistantvillageidiot.blogspot.com/2019/08/highest-page-views-50.html
“Trudeau inherited the mantle of righteousness from the folksingers, and became the chief exponent of the idea that conservatives were essentially stupid and had evil motives. ”

The TDS, and before that Bush Derangement Syndrome, is based on the stupid belief that Reps are evil — even by Dems who don’t believe in God.

Mocking them, laughing at them, calling them silly — we need more cartoons about how silly the Dems are.

10. Things are getting so crazy that it’s getting harder and harder to discern what might actually be satire, and what might be what supposedly passes for “Reality “ these days.

Thus a headline on Gatewaypundit today, about a Spanish “trans-vegan” group which has released a “pro-chicken” video in which the female chickens are kept separate from the male chickens, who “rape them without their consent.”
