Why would any country on earth want to join the EU? — 11 Comments

  1. If I were Boris Johnson, I’d campaign aggressively in Italy and Hungary and elsewhere to create a new ex-EU block. It would have some finance and trade features and privileges and none of the other EU nonsense, and be designed to scare the heck out of the EU bureaucrats. And the US should be a part of it.

  2. Europe went crazy in 1914 and never recovered.
Even after Hitler was defeated, they continued.
See the historical documentary by David Korn-Brzoza, “After Hitler”.
There is information contained therein that has not been public knowledge, EVER!
And Europe will not forgive the United States for saving it via the Marshall Plan.
Without the US effort to rebuild and protect Europe, Stalin would have seized control all the way to the Atlantic Coast.

I strongly recommend this documentary. You will learn what happened after 1945 that will turn your hair.

  3. If a hard Brexit actually happens Eastern Europe will soon leave the EU. I think one or two of the Baltic states may also escape. IMO the EU was doomed to fail. Why? Because Italians remained Italians, the Czechs remained Czechs, etc.

  4. If the E.U.’s heavy handedness doesn’t drive out its Eastern Europe members, then Western Europe’s increasing Islamization will… plus, there’s the E.U.’s financial fracture lines… In 20-30 years, the E.U. will be a historical memory. It’s an unsustainable enterprise.

  5. TommyJay…you are spot on…until your last sentence.
The US should never get tied up in any kind of multi-national configuration. Think Camel’s nose & tent flap. Just no.

  6. I recently spent three weeks in Croatia. No trash, no street crime. Also, very few “migrants.” Just like Hungary in this respect.

  7. They want to be part of the customs union, Schengen and NATO… the EU is unfortunately part of the package.

  8. Edward,
My take on WWii is that FDR willingly ceded Eastern Europe to his ally, Stalin, at Yalta. Over Winston’s objections. FDR was dying at the time, and his poor cardiac output meant his brain was underperfused, thus his passivity and concurrences with the Mustached One.

American forces could easily have taken Berlin (and prevented the division of Germany into East and West) but were held back by their C-in-C and by Ike. The Russkies got even with the Krauts by vengefully shelling Berlin into dust. And then the looting and raping began.

Here it is from Wiki: “The British wanted to capture Berlin, but Eisenhower decided it would be a military mistake for him to attack Berlin, and said orders to that effect would have to be explicit. The British backed down, but then wanted Eisenhower to move into Czechoslovakia for political reasons. Washington refused to support Churchill’s plan to use Eisenhower’s army for political maneuvers against Moscow. The actual division of Germany followed the lines that Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin had previously agreed upon [in Yalta-]. The Soviet Red Army captured Berlin in a very large-scale bloody battle, and the Germans finally surrendered on May 7, 1945.”
