My dream generator certainly has a sense of humor — 7 Comments

  1. I don’t get school dreams now, but I still get occasional work dreams. I have been retired since 2004. My wife was a teacher for 30 yr, retired in 2002 and she still has an occasional teacher dream.

  2. My anxiety dreams are never about tests. It’s always a matter of not knowing where I’m supposed to be in school setting. Usually this involves simply forgetting my schedule or not recalling which classroom is in which building. Sometimes even the campus is unrecognizable.

  3. So just now I was listening for some reason, on an odd impulse, to Johnny Rivers do “Sunny” live at the Whiskey A Go Go; something I am not even sure I heard as a kid or should have known of. And a realization related to this thread just struck me so powerfully I had to come here to mention it.

And no it is not that true story of my walking into an Econ class for the final after having attended about 5 classes all semester.

It’s a dream I had about music the other night, apparently.

And what I dreamt was that I suddenly had – was exercising – a perfect and fluid ability to play any chord forms that fit any song instantly … even the kind of jazz style rhythm chords which don’t leverage off the obvious melody for their root notes, as strumming does.

Instantly … without thinking. I could hear them in my head and understand how they complemented and form them perfectly at will and without practice. Huh …

I suppose musicians can. But I am not a musician, though I own some nice guitars. Huh. Maybe I need to get practicing and playing again.

  4. I don’t get school/final exam dreams any more, if I ever did. What I do get (on average of every month or two) is a work dream – the nightmare of the radio studio/TV control room that doesn’t function. Nothing properly hooked up to the control board, can’t find the log, can’t pull the music or the program tapes in time, and it’s counting down to air time in five minutes …. four minutes … three minutes… and the library is locked … Yep – every couple of months, usually when I am stressing about something. Haven’t pulled a radio shift in about fifteen years, and haven’t run a TV control board in twenty-five, but the nightmares still show up.
