Please donate to neo-neocon — 29 Comments

  1. This place is a refuge of intelligence, common sense and calm. It matters. Thank you.

  2. The donate button doesn’t work here, can’t enter an amount or log into paypal. This is chrome on fedora 27.

  3. chuck:

I have no idea what the problem is. Have you tried removing adblock and/or any other blocks? And have you tried other browsers? Thanks.

  4. Thanks, Neo, for all your hard work these past years. I have learned so much from your posts and the comments by your intelligent, and sometimes clever, readers.

  5. Doesn’t work on firefox either. Out of curiousity, where did you get the donate button?

  6. chuck:

I have no idea where I originally got it, because it was probably about 8 years ago. But I assume I got it at Paypal. Also, it seems to be working for most people, so whatever the glitch is it’s not affecting everyone.

That said, I’d like to fix it, but I’m not sure how. I’ll look into it later today, but I’m reluctant to change something that’s worked for years. Have you tried all browsers? I had a weird experience last week. Something (I forget what it was) wasn’t working properly on either Chrome or Firefox, my two favorite browsers. I tried Explorer, expecting it to be even worse (I don’t think much of Explorer). And yet, strangely enough, it worked on Explorer and only on Explorer! So I do suggest you try all your browsers.

  7. You put a lot of work in this site , Kiddo.

You should take a night off and go out with a decent guy.

  8. Huh ..

    I can’t read “tile”.

I’ll assume it was a good natured rejoinder and not a flip off. LOL

  9. I just made what feels like a substantial donation. I encourage others to not be unnecessarily frugal and really support Neo’s wonderful blog. I check out everything posted here. It really gives me strength to feel that there are some like minded people on our most important issues. Also, I really like Neo’s writing about the arts and other less important matters, like Oregon’s Crater Lake.

  10. FYI: People are using Patreon to support their side/main jobs online. Patreon is like venture capitalist funding without the Kickstarter 10% cut.

I think most people give out ranks and levels of rewards. For a blog like this one, the most likely reward would be writing about subjects the donaters donate for.

Whereas Kickstarter often distributes physical goodies for higher donation levels, Patreon just produces content (digital or otherwise).

  11. Always want to donate, BUT give me a name (check & envelope) and address (PO box OK): I”’ll mail a USDollar check on US bank. No Pay Pal. No way.

  12. Glad to be able to donate and know that it’s difficult both to ask and to put a value on your intellectual capital. I try to remember to use your Amazon search function when I’m buying something from Bezos’ gang. Appreciate your insights. Also, I’m a swing dancer (west coast) so I appreciate your posts on dancing (even ballet).

  13. Chuck,
I had a similar issue, ended up re-trying a day or two later after clearing the browser cache and it went through.

  14. I can’t seem to post on this blog right now. I’m on the phone with the host, trying to solve the problem. It’s very disturbing.

In the meantime I’m putting this message on all my newer posts to alert people that for now I’ll be posting at the new site. So follow this link for further updates.

I sincerely hope this problem will be fixed soon.

Comment preview also doesn’t seem to be working.

  15. The site got changed to some generic theme for a while, missing all my customizations. This was something the host inadvertently did, and then they claimed they couldn’t undo it. Fortunately, though, I got a very nice guy on the phone in the second call I made to them, and he helped restore it to its former glory.

I still can’t post, but at least the blog looks as it should, and the comments function.

    For now 🙂 .

  20. I addition to everything else, some “helper” at my host seems to have turned off the spam filter in their efforts to “help.” They turned it back on, so the influx of spam (see the four comments above this) should be stopping.

Of course, I can’t actually remove the spam until the larger problem of my getting to the back pages is fixed.

  21. But what if I really need a personal injury lawyer for an accident caused by a defective clock in my truck? Where would I go for help? To Neo of course!

Hope it is all sorted out soon!

Pay pal worked fine for my donation, BTW.

  22. Hi Neo. I apologize for being so recalcitrant but I donated a couple days ago. That generic site yesterday scared the hell out of me. I sighed with relief this morning when I saw that ballet slipper.

  23. Ralph Kinney Bennet:

    Thanks!

When I saw that generic site I broke out into a cold sweat, and then when the people who had done it in the first place said there was no way to undo it, I had further angst.

For now I’ll probably be posting on the new site. Hopefully, this one will get fixed.

This latest episode of blog glitches has been especially exhausting.

  24. If you are WONDERING WHAT HAPPENED… to NeoNeoCon… there has been some significant technical issues with the site and neo is currently monitoring this and posting at the new neoneo site…
