Obama tries to gain momentum… — 6 Comments

  1. Neo,

Omentum: a free fold of peritoneum or one connecting or supporting viscera or other abdominal structures…

The Greeks called it the “epiploé¶n” because it “floated upon” the organs of the abdomen…

Takes me back to my days in anatomy in medical school, when I first met my beloved (we dissected the same cadaver!).

    🙂

    Jamie Irons

  2. Jamie: I had no idea the word had a meaning already. Bummer.

And that’s quite a heartwarming story–if love can bloom and then survive over dissecting a cadaver together, it can probably endure anything!

  3. The prediction 3 years ago was that Obama would emphasize domestic policy and de-emphasize foreign policy. That prediction appears to have been correct. To a big degree, Obama has run foreign policy on auto-pilot, recycling much of the foreign policy of President Bush. President Obama’s efforts appeared to go to domestic policy, such as the Stimulus and health care “reform.”

What the polls say? His highest ratings are in foreign policy- the one foreign policy question had to do with his conduct of the war on terrorism. His poll ratings are lowest in domestic policy, the area where President Obama has spent the most time and effort. (Aside from his perpetual campaigning, where his effort has been Herculean.)

That suggests that the best way for President Obama to resurrect his ratings is, like Silent Cal or a zen master, to do as little as possible. His best chance for re-election is to play golf every day. Two rounds a day, if possible.

Dr. Iron’s post on anatomical terms reminds me of the Hippocratic oath, which should apply as much to politicians as to physicians: First, do no harm.

Mr. President, please do no further harm. Play two rounds of golf a day for the next 16 months. Please.

  4. Gaining momentum by focusing like a laser on jobs, jobs, jobs.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time …

  5. The momentum building is to steer Obama into a career managing a Motel 6. That way he can just hold reservations only for his buddies and redistribute room service more “fairly” till the place goes belly up.
