Hugo Chavez… — 13 Comments

  1. Hilarious and long overdue if true. There’s no one more deserving of socialist medicine and it’s consequences.

  2. Some speculate that this is all a farce to enable Thugo to magically appear at the July 5th Bicentennial Celebration, and start purging left and right, where he would use the lie of illness to smoke out some potential usurpers within his ranks. Thugo and the Castros are certainly capable of such a scheme.

More likely, there has actually been something wrong with his health- which does not mean that Thugo wouldn’t use this as an opportunity to purge potential usurpers. Of course he would.

As an indication that there has been something wrong with his health , he missed quite a few of his weekly Alo Presidente TV programs this year, beginning in February. That would indicate there was something wrong with his health, as Thugo loves TV exposure the way that a lion loves meat.

One interesting point about all this is that there appears to be more circulation of rumors from abroad than there is inside Venezuela. It appears that inside Venezuela, people are taking a wait and see attitude, at least according to two witnesses.

One thing for sure: if Thugo doesn’t appear at the July 5th Bicentennial Celebration, there is definitely something wrong with his health. As we say in the States, that is something he would be willing to miss “over my[his] dead body.”

There are some speculations that a Military Hospital in Venezuela is being readied for Thugo to recuperate in order to magically appear at the Bicentennial Celebration. There have also been reports/speculations that the Bicentennial Celebration will be delayed until July 9.

While the NYT , Fox and Miami Herald[Nuevo Herald] have covered this, some of the more complete reports/speculations are in Spanish.

Others have pointed out that this speculation about what is occurring resembles the Kremlinology speculations regarding the health of Brezhnev, Andropov, and Chernenko in the 1980. In both cases, one had to read between the lines to find out what was happening.

  3. Error: “As far as I can tell, the blog posting below is the one that set it off.”

    Preview, preview…

  4. Someone wrote:”Hugo Ché¡vez extended stay in a Cuban hospital is because he is in critical condition…”

From your lips to God’s ear…

  5. Oh no, Hugo the malevolent ill? Whatever will his girlfriend Barry do??? The Colombians, as well as most Venezuelans are convinced of this.

  6. So, Hugo goes to Cuba for some expert medical care….

Michael Moore can’t be reached for comment.

  7. If he dies will Obamessiah order US flags flown at half mast? Will Sean Penn take a delegation of mourners to Venezuela, become overwrought, rip out his hair in anguish and then seek treatment for depression in Cuba? Can we expect a Hollywood spectacular based on the life of Hugo, with Johnny Deppor or maybe Iom Cruise playing the lead? Will Sarah Palin and Israel be held responsible?

And poor Barry, who will he tell his problems to with Hugo out of the scene and the Israelis tapping Abbas’ phones?

  8. If Chavez dies–and when I first read that he was ill all I could think was, “Gee, I hope it’s nothing trivial”–what will be interesting is Obama’s response. My guess, and I hope I’m wrong, is that it will be effusive and much more laudatory than, say, it would be if the decedent were David Cameron. (I won’t even guess as to how he’d react personally to Netanyahu’s demise.)

By the way, Hong, socialist medicine is actually of good quality–if you’re part of the nomenclatura or otherwise connected with the ruling class. It’s the medical care for the people that is lousy.

  9. By the way,

    “Hugo Chavez…

…may not be coming down for dinner.”

    is one memorable delivery.
