The January 6th committee… — 26 Comments

  1. A week ago, Ben Gerson wrote for TheNation a piece entitled “If M Garland Had The Courage Of His Convictions, Trump Would Already Be On His Way To Prison”, and some of the commenters were furious with Garland’s “cowardice” in having failed thus far to place the evil OrangeMan in striped prison apparel (or orange jumpsuit). No rational person could possibly have any respect for the Stalinist J6 “show-trial”, but it remains to be seen how much Garland will care about incurring the wrath of the base should he fail to do the bidding not just of the hard left, but of the entire Democratic party.

  2. Complete waste of taxpayer dollars. This was a fait accompli. As neo writes, they were going to do this from day one, so why not have a week of hearings and issue the identical recommendation?

I don’t have empathy for Trump. He played both sides after the election and failed to use his ability to pardon to help those who got caught up in January 6th; supporters following his insistence that the election had been stolen.

But we the taxpayers? Once again, we got screwed. And I also have great empathy for the innocents wrongfully held and prosecuted for political purposes.

  3. Yep. Garland will indict, or not, based on what is in the best interests of the left. The left has convinced itself that a Trump nomination is the best way for Democrats to hold the White House in 2024. (I believe they are right.) Expect Garland to indict, or not indict, based on what they believe is most likely to aid Trump’s campaign.

My guess is that Trump will be indicted, right after he either clinches the Republican nomination or is eliminated from contention for it. If he does win the nomination, expect a short trial and inevitable conviction by a DC jury around October of 2024. (In an amazingly fortunate turn of events for the D team, Garland will need a good long time to consider such a momentous decision.)

  4. Fear, historical ignorance and ideological fanaticism among the democrat leadership have resulted in political blindness; the greater the injustice, the greater the martyrdom.

They create a rallying point among the opposition. They act as an accelerant, creating an ideological firestorm.

First the Jan. 6th protestors… then parents declared domestic terrorists. Now the last President. How long before they go after Supreme Court Justices?

  5. concerned conservative™:

Events play hob with the best laid plans of mice and men. See “agley.”

No plan survives contact with the enemy.

  6. “…based on what is in the best interests of the left….”

I’m not sure the Left has any “interests” in the usual sense of the word.
(Well, except for maybe, “DON’T GET CAUGHT!”)

That is, they’re certainly not worried about losing any future elections.
(Now why might that be?…Probably due—they’re sure—to their unbeatable charisma and overall governing expertise, their firm support of the underdog, the little guy, the people in need, the dire need to uphold the law of the land in these critical times, etc.)

But OK, they might believe that their “best interest” might be something along the lines of…hanging DJT high and leaving him twisting up there in the wind for, oh, say, a week. A month? A year? Eternity?
And then go for his family.

    Call it an “example”.

Yeah, that’s it! Their “best interests” involve setting the right example…

Oh and also, to Make America Go Away.

  7. “How long before they go after Supreme Court Justices?”
    Well…that one nutcase already did.

But as I noted yesterday…this right here is how you get a real insurrection. DOJ pulls the trigger on an indictment & kangaroo court conviction…At some point, someone’s cork is going to pop & the fascist-party that installed Biden will have an “excuse” to declare martial law.

  8. John Guilfoyle:
“At some point, someone’s cork is going to pop & the fascist-party that installed Biden will have an “excuse” to declare martial law.”

They do seem to be laying the groundwork to really crack down on the deplorables. White supremacists, insurrectionists, parent protestors against schoolboards, climate deniers, election deniers, violence prone gun lovers, etc. All very dangerous and must be crushed. Thieves, arsonists, murderers, rapists, child molesters, human traffickers, etc. All misunderstood, underprivileged, and discriminated against. Especially if they are minorities or illegals.

Up is down, right is left, war is peace, etc. You must accept it or you’re an anti-government terrorist. 🙁

  9. Whatever they may think in their hermetically sealed bubble in Washington, Trump is extremely popular in very large parts of the US outside of it. He still pulls in very large crowds for his rallies. The Dims might want to think very carefully about what a genuine insurrection looks like when it’s composed of a lot of heavily armed men instead of goof balls, grandmas, and undercover FBI agents.

  10. Paul in Boston:

But speaking of bozos in a bubble, remember Eric Swallwell saying about the Second Ammendment “we have nukes,” as does Vlad (but that’s another case), or as Brandon said regarding AR-15s or AK43s (keeping in the spirit and context of Brandonism) “we have F15s.”

  11. They seem hell bent on pushing the country over the edge. Stupid fools.

Despite what those in the “bubble” may think, the everyday American still has a sense of justice and fairness.

The Democrats and their accomplices are treading through multiple minefields, of which their TDS is one, and they could blunder into a situation that would make the BLM/Antifa BS seem like a kindergarten playground.

  12. As others have noted above, we are standing on the edge of a very deep abyss. The casualties of falling into it will be largely fatal. As om cited the president of all 50 states, “as Brandon said regarding AR-15s or AK43s (keeping in the spirit and context of Brandonism) “we have F15s.”

It is a question as to where the hearts of the pilots are. F-15s do not fly themselves.

  13. General Markey Milley won’t be able to harness his white rage or get his pronouns correct to convince the NCOs to go along with his and Brandon’s delusions.

  14. “””White supremacists, insurrectionists, parent protestors against schoolboards, climate deniers, election deniers, violence prone gun lovers, etc. All very dangerous and must be crushed. Thieves, arsonists, murderers, rapists, child molesters, human traffickers, etc. All misunderstood, underprivileged, and discriminated against. Especially if they are minorities or illegals.”””

JJ Thanks. Exactly. The folks I know who vote dem and dislike Trump believe that.
As I’ve said I don’t know how many times, I think they–someplace inside–know better but they have to force themselves to believe such nonsense.

And they have to say such things in public.

  15. “And they have to say such things in public” [Richard Aubrey (10:41 pm)], lest they be viewed as insufficiently virtuous. Never be the first to stop clapping for Dear Leader.

  16. Just think of it as an exquisitely wrapped Christmas gift from “Biden”…and it all begins to make sense…

(With many more gifts on the way…)

Yep, that inimitable Obama/”Biden” sense of humor…(and good cheer!)…

  17. Meanwhile, it seems that vengeance is TOP priority for some…
“‘Entire nation knows who is responsible’ McConnell takes aim at Trump for Jan. 6”—
    https://nypost.com/2022/12/20/mcconnell-takes-aim-at-trump-for-jan-6-entire-nation-knows-who-is-responsible/

    But the “entire nation”?
    Really?
With such pathetic, shameful, hyperbole, McConnell has essentially admitted publically that he’s not fit for the responsibilities of his job.

(I guess the “Human Comedy” is just too overpowering for some…)

  18. With such pathetic, shameful, hyperbole, McConnell has essentially admitted publically that he’s not fit for the responsibilities of his job.

The Republican bubbleworld dwellers occupying Senate seats want him where he is. Our politicians are vile.

  19. Cripes, Dersh’s playin’ party-pooper again….
    ‘Alan Dershowitz says Jan. 6 committee’s criminal referral of Trump is unconstitutional;
‘ “Article One limits the power of Congress through legislative actions,” Dershowitz said’—
    https://justthenews.com/government/federal-agencies/alan-dershowitz-says-jan-6-trump-referral-unconstitutional-citing
(No wonder they can’t stand him…)
    Opening grafs:
‘ Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz says that the Jan. 6 committee’s criminal referral to the Justice Department against former President Donald Trump is unconstitutional and violates separation of powers….
‘…”In my view, it’s clearly unconstitutional…. Article One limits the power of Congress through legislative actions. This is not a legislative action — naming a specific individual and referring them to the Justice Department. It’s not legislative and it tramples on the authority of the executive branch.
‘ “The 14th Amendment provides one specific time when Congress may in fact, act against an individual,” he later continued. “That is if the person was engaged in an insurrection or rebellion…and they didn’t act under that provision.”….’ [All emphasis mine; Barry M.]

  20. It is obvious, from the trials of Kyle Rittenhouse, and Mark and Patricia McCloskey, that there is a movement to get armed resistance against “protesters” recognized as illegal, as long as said “protesters” are officially approved.

  21. CNN Int had nothing on last night, but this BS. I doubt that Zelensky taking out Moscow would have even gotten a chyron. Is Liz Cheney looking fo a show at CNN?

When will someone start pointing out that the election was rigged–not entirely by voter fraud, but also by FBI suppression of Hunter story and fake Russia collusion stories.

  22. It’s a question of which crisis dominates the future. War with Russia ? Economic collapse? Overwhelming crime wave ? The incompetents running our government have set off a number of fuses. Weimar Germany gets more and more like a model.
