  1. And where would we be without a little Democratic Party intimidation and threats?

    H/T Instapundit.

(Maybe she should just collapse on screen and shout “Cain’t Breathe!!”)

But move along now. Nothing to see here…

  2. I am very sorry to hear the news of Oregon Muse’s death. His Book Thread at Ace of Spades was something I looked forward to every Sunday. May he rejoice forever in the light of the Lord.

  3. I certainly fell for the Sotomayor and Gorsuch fabrication. But I have such a low opinion of Sotomayor I would tend to believe almost any absurdity about her.

  4. I imagine Ms. Totenberg was as surprised to be called out on her story by the Justice herself as Christine Blasey Ford was by her “witnesses”.

  5. I wish France would follow Britain. I am planning trip to France first 2 wks of Ap for some good History. Then in Sept my Wife and I going on two River Barge trips. The requirement for a QR code is a pain.
Wonder if you still need COVID test to get into UK from the US.

  6. Stanley Donen got around. He was married 5x and was afterward appended to Elaine May for 20 years (she refused to marry him). Lived to be 94 years old.

  7. tcrosse,

Yes, I remember Weena the Eloi well. And Yvette’s character in Where the Boys Are. Also, hanging out with Stanley Donen must have been cool, even if he wasn’t terribly personable.

  8. If Oregon Muse lived in Oregon, I wonder how limited his treatment options were for Covid? Was monoclonal antibodies available? Was Ivermectin available?
Heard of two more people I know that have contracted Covid a second time.
There is a lady in her 50s that I have worked for that caught it a second time , this past December. This was after she had Covid early on, circa 2020, and then was double vaccinated, and then got it again. Her comment indicated that it was not pleasant the second time around. This lady works out at the gym regularly and is very trim.
Seems neither vaccination , nor “ natural immunity” is 100% with this virus.

  9. Re Yvette and the beach house. I’ve wondered from time to time, what would actually transpire if one were in such a situation with [admired famous person].

Which leads almost seamlessly into the ‘table for four’, or whatever the formal name is: Who would be your choices for the other three seats? Spousal units are not in play, unless you’re cohabiting with [admired famous person].

If there’s enough interesting answers, I’ll toss mine in too.

  10. Leftists didn’t believe the Gorsuch-Sotomayor statement, so Chief Justice Roberts issued one saying he had not asked any justices to wear masks — and they don’t believe him.

I am no fan of Sotomayor, but she has been a Type I diabetic since childhood, and is also visibly overweight. She’s at risk; if she feels safer joining hearings on Zoom, it’s her choice, since it can be done that way.

  11. From the wikipedia entry on Stanley Donen: “Stanley Donen was born on April 13, 1924, in Columbia, South Carolina, to Mordecai Moses Donen, a dress-shop manager…”

Now that’s a name! I don’t think the lovely, Mrs. Firefly is interested in having more children, but I’d be up for having another son if we could name him Mordecai Moses Firefly!

  12. Yes. RIP Yvette Mimieux.

In addition to the movies, she made a memorable recording of Baudelaire’s Flowers of Evil – accompanied by Ali Akbar Khan. It’s still available on compact disc.

  13. It’ll be interesting to see how Nina DeadlyMountain gets out of this. The usual strategy would be for NPR to pretend it just didn’t happen, but this fib was so delicious it really got out of control and sucked in a lot of people!

  14. @ Mr. Firefly

    “Dick van Dyke”

I did *not* see that one coming! Mine:

    Richard Feynman
    Mike Hailwood
    Elizabeth Windsor

    I’m still considering the menu.

  15. “…might I suggest fish and chips ?”

None of the premier Champagne houses will suggest a suitable pairing.
