Trump at the Harlem bodega — 18 Comments

  1. If Trump goes to jail, he will be leader of the pack, in a good way. He is, after all, a motivational speaker.

Several years ago, saw videos of Trump interacting with blue collar workers at different locations. I believe he actually admires men who work with tools and appreciates their skills.

Maybe he tried some do-it-yourself work and banged or sliced a couple of fingers in the past.

  2. fullmoon:

I’m doing this from memory – things I learned when Trump was first running for the presidency – but Trump’s father made the young Trump (while training Donald to be in the business) go to construction sites and learn every aspect of the business from the bottom up. I don’t recall whether Trump actually worked on the construction himself, but he observed closely and interacted and learned all about what that sort of work is like.

  3. David asks: “And would anyone ask either Biden or Obama to replace a simple electrical switch?”

I wouldn’t ask them to change a light bulb, much less a switch.

  4. I really have to admire this move by Trump. Brilliant. The left always underestimates his political sense. TDS says, he and his followers, are all troglodyes without any real intelligence. Keep thinking that all you @ssholes

  5. This is all great, if the mainstream press is showing these post-trial daily campaign stops. If they aren’t, he’s preaching to the choir, mostly.

  6. Maybe young Trump learned that in every building ever built enough blood has been spilled to supply a blood bank for a day or someone died. I worked in construction for 30 years.

Anyway, Trump seems to have always respected blue collar people and it shows. On the other hand Dem politicians don’t. And that shows. I remember how Trump was called a “populist” with disdain by Dem politicians. Trump has a lot of people on his side. The Democrats have fraud.
    Interesting times.

  7. }}} And would anyone ask either Biden or Obama to replace a simple electrical switch?

Do we have to turn the electricity off, first?

    😛

  8. I don’t think Trump’s father was a builder. I think he was more into rental properties and remodeling. Construction requires more knowledge of skills and trades. I had a fraternity brother who got his BS in Business, then began a carpenter apprenticeship.

  9. Mike K:

I didn’t say, or mean, that Trump Sr. worked construction. He built housing developments. Trump Jr. builds hotels, luxury apartments, golf courses, etc. as in finaces, plans, supervises, directs, . Perhaps “real estate developer” is a better term.

  10. Kate –

” If they aren’t, he’s preaching to the choir, mostly.”

The bodega appearance didn’t just attract supporters. People who travel through the area at that time of day saw the crowd, wondered what was going on, and got sucked in. People who aren’t already Trump supporters were exposed to him and his message, and got the message that he cares about the blue collar people

This likely won’t change minds overnight. But as he repeatedly meets with people in the area over the course of the trial, it could cause attitudes to shift.

  11. Thanks, Neo! this is what Trump did in 2015-2016. He kept getting free national TV time via news reports. If this is happening now, he’s going to reach people.

  12. I can’t imagine Biden doing something like this without making up some bullshit story about how he was abandoned as a child and was raised by a kindly family of bodega owners

  13. It would be one thing if it were just any bodega. A simple stunt. But this bodega, and this prosecutor. Makes a different point.
