  1. everyone should wear white facepaint like Kabuki theatre, thats what this is,

so the remark about lowell is attributed to Churchill by a Character in a novel written by a Pakistani born British Banker, Liar Rahman which is chalk full of epigraphs,

  2. The former outspoken Representative Louie Gohmert of Texas , often on Fox News in the past, and the current Speaker of the House Johnson of Louisiana represent overlapping cultural groups. Johnson represents the Shreveport area and Gohmert represented East Texas just next door. I think their districts abut each other at the state line at Sabine river. Both are Baptist. Both have been Baptist Sunday School teachers. I live in Gohmert’s district and I have relatives that are in Johnston’s district.

  3. I have no interest in watching the carnival freakshow of a demented old man stumbling through a prepared screed of lies and mischaracterizations about the current state of affairs of the nation. I derive no morbid joy or satisfaction from such things, only sadness and anxiety for the country and anger towards those who are behind the ghoulish display. I feel pity for those who have to watch it due to their jobs.

  4. I take one thing back. Unlike Jimmy Carter and former rep Gohmert, Speaker Johnson may not have taught Sunday School.

  5. an interesting detail I’ve noted about modern pirate tales like black sails, and pirates of the caribbean, they suggest a thin line between the royal navy and the pirates they hunt, as in the back story to jack sparrow, he started out working for the East Indian company,

  6. America Has Spoken: Blondes With Big Boobs, Please! No Self-Immolating Lefties

As this country teeters on the brink, as bottoms running the government film gay sex in our hallowed institutions, as Doritos, the cheesy staple of the American party, is forced to fire their child-diddling trans-fluencer, Americans are craving normalcy. Ice-cold beer on a Friday night with some Toby Keith playing on the stereo (RIP). Golden retrievers named Buster. A blonde bird named Sydney Sweeney.

Americans also want to discuss kickass cinema like “Dune: Part Two,” which a trusted source tells Scoops is electric. They want to go to a theater, sit back in a big leather recliner, and plow through a large bucket of popcorn with extra butter while watching space people blow shit up in an epic war.

What Americans don’t want to discuss in 2024, it seems, is the pro-Palestine activist who cooked himself like a medium-well filet on the streets of D.C.

At the end of the day, America knows herself. The nightmarish, apocalyptic image of a man on fire is no match for heavenly clips of Sweeney’s cannons. ‘Murica will take the latter, any day of the week.

  7. I don’t think I can stand to watch the SOTU because of the constant stand and claps as well as having to listen to Biden’s voice and lies.

But, I’ll read the various live posts and watch the highlights later. Perhaps Neo will have a special SOTU open thread for comments???

  8. Since they’ve been asked to preserve a power pole near where the fire started, I’m guessing that a distribution transformer on the pole exploded.

To be fair to Xcel, I suspect the area was a tinderbox that would’ve eventually ignited for some other reason, be it dry lightning or some idiot burning rubish and losing control of it.

  9. and yet here again Hollywood fails casting Sydney Sweeney as a demure teenager and giving the role to Dakota Johnson, I mean it wouldn’t have been a total loss, Amy Pascal is back to choosing White House Down and the Lone Ranger, which aren’t terrible, but could have been edited a little,

  10. since they are going to bring in morgan freeman, bill pullman, michael douglas and maybe martin sheen, facepalm, no denis haysbert,

  11. Mike Plaiss, it sounds unworkable. Unless Israel totally defeats Hamas, aid flowing in from any source is going to be diverted to terrorists. They don’t care about civilians at all.

  12. On the SOTU, Stephen Green at PJ Media suggests that Biden is resting all day, and will be hopped up with whatever it is his Doctor Feelgood gives him to get him through an hour this evening in energetic condition. We’ll see if he can still do it.

That is, some of you may see it. I’ll be asleep early and will check commentary tomorrow.

  13. They don’t care about civilians at all.

Yes, in fact, it’s even worse than that. If this port were to do everything that people who think like Biden hope it will do – genuinely provide aid to Gazans-not-Hamas – that would reduce pressure from the international community on Israel. Hamas’ entire strategy is to maximize pressure on Israel. It’s the only way they can win. In other words, the port works against their interests and it becomes nothing but a terrorist target. If you don’t think Hamas could hit a port secured by the U.S. military see Beirut 1983.

  14. Biden is bad, but I can’t imagine Michelle Obama being able to give one of these SOTU w/o exploding—temper wise.

  15. I am thinking there is a 1 in 25* chance Biden won’t be able to do the SOTU, er, rather, his handlers won’t be able to drug Biden up enough to fake his way through the SOTU, so someone else will have to do it. Is the Gav-meister in DC? Can “they” trot him out to the podium? Maybe trot out Moo-chelle? Maye Nancy, as former Speaker…? Will “they” let the Cackler take a crack/cackle at it? Will “they” revert back to the older tradition of just sending it to the House in a letter?

    Inquiring minds want to know!

(* – I have vacillated between 1 in 10 to 1 in 50 and finally settled on 1 in 25. I wonder if any bookies are laying odds….)

  16. Not that it matters much but….

    H/T Powerline blog (for both)

    Wait, but it DOES matter!!

…Well, maybe it SHOULD matter…but most everyone’s playing by Palestinian Rules…
    …You know…:
    Free and fair–and TRANSPARENT—elections…
    Transitory inflation…
Covid emerged from nature…and EVERYONE needs to be vaccinated and masked…since there’s NO OTHER WAY to protect against it.
    Secure borders…
    DEI…
    Multiple genders…
    BLM…
    Antifa’s just an idea…
The Afghan withdrawal was a tremendous success…
    Our Democracy(TM)…
    Islamophobia…
    Parents are terrorists…
    Global Warming…
White Supremacism is America’s most deady enemy (after Global Warming, that is)…
    EVs are the future…
Gotta love the enthusiasm of those pro-Hamas protesters…
    Etc., ad nauseum…

  17. Rapunzel is a beautiful young women with lustrous locks…that I am mentally itching to trim by about 16″. Getting rid of that last foot or so would maximize the thickest and healthiest portion, and still leave her with super-de-dooper long, eye-catching hair.

  18. Godzilla versus Kong was a big success.

I can’t wait for Godiva versus Rapunzel to make it to the big screen.

  19. I note that earlier this week Louisiana and yesterday South Carolina were the 28th and 29th states respectively to make Constitutional (handgun) Carry law.

There is a reason that the Federal government does not collect statistics on certain things—hot button issues the answers to which it just doesn’t want to know–or want you to know–for it fears such statistics might contradict the “narrative” it has constructed about such issues.

The number of times someone with a lawfully carried handgun has prevented or stopped a crime is one such statistic.

Moreover, are there good, comprehensive statistics comparing state’s pre and post Constitutional carry law crime rates–statistics which might refute the idea of Constitutional carry states supposedly turning into the'”wild west,” with rivers of blood flowing in the streets?

    I don’t know of any.

  20. BTW–According to reports, if you are forced to use a firearm to defend yourself or yours, the ordeal is only beginning because, not only will you likely have to deal with flashbacks if you have to inflict injuries on or kill a perp (that’s what they said decades ago in my NRA concealed carry class) but–depending on the State you are in, and who the local prosecutor and/or sheriff may be–in the aftermath of your successful self defense you may well be dragged off to jail in handcuffs, and possibly sit there for a day or two until you get a lawyer and are bailed out.

Things can then get worse, though, as you could be dragged through potentially months of court proceedings.

There are various groups–one being the NRA–which say that they offer you a policy which will offer you protection in the case you have to use your handgun or rifle in self defense, and they will provide things like an on call lawyer, bail, a trial lawyer, and your legal defense costs up to a certain amount–which could add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

However, I’ve seen reports that some companies do not really provide the protections they claim to.

Thus, for instance, one company’s contract’s fine print says that they will not pay for any of your legal defense costs if your are indicted, and, of course, you could well be indicted by some ambitious prosecutor eager to add another scalp to his belt.

So, while I think that getting such a policy is a good thing, especially if you are actively carrying every day, you have to very carefully evaluate and choose which policy to pick.

  21. P.S.–In our current situation–with it being more and more common for often crazy and/or high perps to be running around, committing crimes, and shooting people and places up, often at random, “just for fun,” “because the voices in their heads told them to do so,” or “just because they can” i.e. “some people just want to see the world burn”–being able to carry a weapon seems more and more reasonable, and is increasingly necessary.

However, you can’t just strap on a gun and walk out the door, you need training to use this tool safely, appropriately, and effectively,
