  1. I am still watching news stories about the Nashville shooter for information about whether she was taking antidepressants, which are often found in episodes of homicidal violence.

  2. When I was in college, I had a cat that used to jump on the back of the German shepherd that lived in the frat house next door. She was a goofy cat, and a dwarf (her mom was 17 when she had that 3-cat litter). You had to lock the bathroom door if you drew a bath- she loved jumping in. And in the winter (in North Dakota, that’s about 5 months), she would follow me to class, jumping like a porpoise in and out of the drifts of snow, then lay at my feet under my desk. I called her Tamara, because a girl I knew named Tamara was afraid of cats, and my kitty would stalk her, even climbing drapes to jump off at her.

  3. nformation about whether she was taking antidepressants, which are often found in episodes of homicidal violence.

Most mass shooters also wear pants, breathe air, and habitually eat food. It’s not enough to say “this group of people has X in common”, because they may also have it in common with everyone outside the group. About one out of six Americans take anti-depressants; there have not been 50 million school shootings or even 500.

Even if you were to find that only mass shooters took antidepressants and no one else did, you still wouldn’t be done, because the thing that caused them to be a mass shooter could also be the thing that caused them to be taking antidepressants. By blaming antidepressants you might be blaming the wet sidewalks for the recent rain showers.

  4. What drugs she was taking might be contributing factors. The largest contributing factor may be the violent transgender subculture currently circulating on social media. Until the authorities release the “manifesto,” or at least a summary of it, we can’t know.

Saying lots of people take SSRIs and don’t become murderers is quite true. The question is, is there an increased incidence of violent behavior, and how much? And associated with what underlying mental conditions? Saying lots of people take them without dangerous effect is like saying that lots of people use cannabis without dangerous effect. True, but the incidence of psychosis increases something like four-fold.

  5. News from the war front, Democrat cities edition–

The film “Sleepless in Seattle” presented us with the picture of a great, very livable city.

Now, things have gotten so bad in Seattle that their public transportation system is installing “Fentanyl detectors” in their buses, because more than 50 of their drivers have gotten sick from Fentanyl fumes.*

  6. joss whedon is an interesting fellow, in the serenity film he reveals that the savages that prowl the space ways, the reavers, are the backlash of a community management system, involving chemicals that went awry, (his complIcated personal relations aside) he forgets what team he’s supposed to be on,

  7. We have a small dog and a decent sized cat, both about the same size. And living with the two, I am constantly amazed at their differences. Some days it very much seems like Gairfield and Opey. They dog gets so frantically effusive and excited whenever one of her favorite things (like our walks) are even speculated upon. While the cat is essentially giving the dog the evil eye for chilling his mellow. So, as I type this, I wonder what the dog just did, because the cat just came up stairs and climbed in my lap. He just hit the food bowl up here (I keep that one full, because the dog isn’t allowed upstairs), and I expect his next move will be a nap on his favorite bed (mine). And in another hour, I will head downstairs, expecting to be attacked by the excited dog, intent in his morning walk. She spins, jumps up and down, runs to the step where I put on her harness bounces there, then comes to see why I am not there yet. By the time I do get there with her harness, she is bouncing around in excitement so much I often have a hard time getting it on. Yep. Cats now on the bed asleep.

  8. “hallelujah”

    Miguael,

It took me a while to figure out what GAE meant (presumably “Globalist American Empire”). Some of the other possible definitions were “Geniculate Artery Embolization” and “Georgia Association of Educators”. Not something that I had run into before, but appropriate.

  9. Such a sweet story. Thank you Neo.

Just to let you know, for the last week I have not been able to access your site on my android phone using Chrome. I have to go to Brave.

  10. Beautiful blue merle Australian Shepherd! I have three Aussies (blue merle, red merle and tri-black) and they are every bit as quirky as the one in the video.

  11. Some of the smartest dogs ever. Obviously acculturated from day 1 to be friends with the horse and imitates exactly what the humans do from a dog’s eye view. Beautiful thing!

  12. Sharon W,
I use MS Edge on Android and it works fine. I’m used to Edge, so there is that.

  13. According to tweets from Byron York at the Washington Examiner, the misdemeanor statute of limitations was two years, and even this flimsy felony charge had a limit of five years, which expired in December 2022. This without seeing the actual charges Bragg has persuaded the grand jury to vote for.

But as we all know: The process is the punishment.
So those who “KNOW”, already know that Trump is guilty. They knew it way back when because of Russiagate, too (since, as they say, where there’s smoke there’s fire…).
While this circus ENSURES that Bragg makes it into the history books.

Field day for the media, I guess…
As the country gets torn apart by “Biden”…

  15. So Trump was indicted after all. Isn’t this how the Spanish Civil War kicked off?

Edit: This is weird. None of the comments after 5:27 pm showed up until after my comment published. Sorry for the duplication.

  16. i think the previous general primo de rivera, was taken out of the picture,

  17. A Couple French Funzies

–Olly Richards, “Polyglot Reacts: 10 Celebs Speaking French”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f58ShY94pFk

Jodie Foster is not the only one. Bradley Cooper, John Malkovich, Viggo Mortensen and … Mick Jagger speak wonderful French. The video is bookmarked so you can hover over the progress bar and locate the person you’d like to hear.

–French Mornings with Elisa, “8 FRENCH IDIOMS TO COMPLAIN LIKE A FRENCH PERSON”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe3K1-e-RAI

Well, wouldn’t we all? Elisa is now my fave French language podcaster.

Her #1 piece of advice is not an idiom, but to emit that wonderful gargled-R, the French love to make from the back of the throat, followed by an exasperated sigh.

Ça c’est très très très français.

Elisa, in my limited experience, offers a legendary gargled-R.

  18. its the way they do things in the ukraine, so settle down, and bolivia and panama among other places,

This rather loosely-wired character represents Westchester County. Yes, he has an EdD degree. Yes, he was a schoolteacher, even though he has never studied an academic subject. Yes, he hates impersonal performance metrics. He also hates feral youths being held accountable for anything. The district he represents is demographically about 1/3 black, so he’s not in office on account of racial chauvinism. Voters of Westchester County, heckuva job.

  20. so a gang of criminals who give professional courtesy to other criminals, engage in a criminal act,

  21. huxley,

I was really impressed by Serena Williams in that video. As the host said, to sit at a table with 8 native speakers takes a great deal of poise and requires an agile mind.

  22. Rufus,

Not to mention her determination to win the French Open was so supreme that she learned French so she could make her victory speech in French.

That’s Michael Jordan/Larry Bird territory. I was in awe.

  23. As seen at Ace of Spades: “Has yellow-tooth Andy McCarthy said how much he respects the prosecutors yet?”

YEAH! And what about Hinderaker, too?
