  1. Michael Anton, Compact mag, 7/28/22: They Can’t Let Him Back In

    https://compactmag.com/article/they-can-t-let-him-back-in

    Conclusary paragraphs:

On Sept. 20, 1911, the RMS Olympic—sistership of the ill-fated Titanic—collided with the Royal Navy cruiser HMS Hawke, despite both vessels traveling at low speeds, in visual contact with one another for 80 minutes. “It was,” writes maritime historian John Maxtone-Graham, “one of those incredible convergences, in full daylight on a calm sea within sight of land, where two normally operated vessels steamed blithely to a point of impact as though mesmerized.”

Our sea isn’t calm, nor are our vessels normally operated. But we do seem headed for a point of impact, with the field of vision before us as clear as it was on that day. And the regime isn’t changing course. It must want this—or else is so high on its own supply that it can’t see what it is doing.

Rest assured, if what I fear might happen, happens, we will be blamed for it. And the fire next time will make their reaction to Jan. 6 look like a marshmallow roast. I don’t know which possibility is scarier: that they haven’t thought any of this through, or that they have.

  2. “…or that they have…”
That’s an extraordinary article by Michael Anton.
He covers all the bases, or practically all of them.
The Democrats have worked Nov. 2022 and 2024 out, have gamed the next elections like they gamed 2020…and they are certain they cannot lose. Because they MUST not lose.

I actually started to say that ‘if the 21st-Century Hanoverians, who go by the name of the “Democratic Party”—irony of ironies—succeed in provoking (IOW staging) another “timely” protest (which they will necessarily mislabel “Insurrection”), and proceed to deal with that protest in the manner of George III (or the Jan. 6 “Commission”), then they will be able to manipulate mightily said “Insurrection” to influence the upcoming election(s), which is no doubt the plan…or part of the plan.’

But as Anton notes, it’s far more devilish than that:
    It’s far more than a case of “Heads we win, tails you lose”;
it’s “Even if we lose, we win…hence we will not lose”
That is, with “Biden” about to enable Federal oversight of elections, “he” has no intention of losing. There’s “the rub”:
‘…They are already using the federal government to thumb the scale in favor of Democrats. Biden’s Executive Order 14019, “Promoting Access to Voting,” requires “every federal agency to submit a plan to register voters and encourage voter participation. It also required agencies to form strategies to invite nongovernmental third parties to register voters.” That is to say, a federal takeover of state elections by the Biden administration. This is a replay, with federal power, of the $400 million in “Zuckerbucks”—money donated by the tech-oligarch founder of Facebook—that pre-rigged the last election, but this time with taxpayer dollars, a White House aide (Susan Rice) coordinating, and cabinet agencies like Housing and Urban Development implementing, in conjunction with leftwing NGOs. That combination will be hard to beat.
‘But suppose it is. There is always cheating-cheating. If you believed that Trump presents an unprecedented threat to the republic, would you really object to a few boxes of extra ballots falling off trucks near vote-counting headquarters in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Milwaukee, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Atlanta? When the Survival of Our Democracy Is on the Line?
‘One has to tip one’s hat to the rhetorical disadvantage they have imposed on us. All questioning of any election they win is denounced as paranoid, unpatriotic, “racist,” and a threat to the integrity of the process. (Never mind that they always do it when the right wins; see, for instance, 2000, 2004, and 2016.) The questionable practices such as late-night ballot dumps that lead to our questions are never explained, much less ended. They get to engage in shenanigans that make elections look fishy; we get blamed for saying they look fishy. When we point out that, hey, something looks off there, the response is invariably: How dare you sow doubt about the election! You are undermining confidence in Our Democracy™. Not their shenanigans, but our doubts undermine confidence…’

Thanks for this link (utterly stark as it is).

One does have to wonder, though, if SCOTUS will—THIS TIME—let such overt anti-Constitutional shenanigans stand. This MUST worry “Biden” and one should expect the current DPUSA-generated “open season” on SCOTUS to go into warp drive in the months ahead.

  3. Interesting, but takes a lot of moving things around. Wonder why she didn’t put in a Propane stove? Limited showering, mentioned she could use the faucet extension to shower, must be show time then. And the port a potty would be impossible for me with my knees. For a few weeks traveling would be OK, but would need a motel stop occasionally. Maybe a converter from 12 V to 120 power too.

  4. As in living on a boat, for every new item that comes on board, something else has to go over the side.

  5. E.O 14019, Federal Register, Promoting Access to Voting, 3/7/2021
    ( https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2021/03/10/2021-05087/promoting-access-to-voting )

Within 200 days of the date of this order, the head of each agency shall submit to the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy a strategic plan outlining the ways identified under this review that the agency can promote voter registration and voter participation.

    “Agencies”, “each agency”

  6. SHIREHOME,

I think that toaster oven and frig that were 110VAC were operated off a battery inverter on occasion. Which are probably serious power hogs.
    ____

It’s a cool video. I was a little shocked that they built it in 4 months. Her dad’s a finisher. Indeed.
    ____

My wife & I used to go car camping with a basic tent. Once we met up with a couple that had a nicely outfitted “tiny camper” also sometimes called a “teardrop camper.” It was small enough that they trailered it behind a Honda Accord. It’s mainly a covered queen size mattress sleeping space, but the rear hatch opens up to reveal a very capable kitchenette with gas burners etc.

In the setup that we saw at the campground, those folks also had a tiny stand-up tent. It was about 3.5 ft square at the base and 6 ft. tall. They put it up with a little potty inside, but it could also be used for dressing and maybe showering.

  7. 44 U.S. Code § 3502 – Definitions: As used in this subchapter—
(1)the term “agency” means any executive department, military department, Government corporation, Government controlled corporation, or other establishment in the executive branch of the Government (including the Executive Office of the President), or any independent regulatory agency, but does not include—
    (A)the Government Accountability Office;
    (B)Federal Election Commission;
(C)the governments of the District of Columbia and of the territories and possessions of the United States, and their various subdivisions; or
    (D)Government-owned contractor-operated facilities, including laboratories engaged in national defense research and production activities;

  8. Here’s Turley on Hunter Biden
‘ “I’ve Delivered”: New Disclosures Demolish President Biden’s Denials On Hunter Dealings’—
    https://www.zerohedge.com/political/ive-delivered-new-disclosures-demolish-president-bidens-denials-hunter-dealings

Now Hunter Biden really OUGHT TO BE “the gift that keeps on giving”.
    But he’s not.
He’s hardly seen in the Mainstream Corrupt Media.
    He’s being protected, certainly.
He is currently NOT A FACTOR.
IOW, the MOST CORRUPT PRESIDENT in American history and his uber-corrupt son ARE NOT A FACTOR.
…which really OUGHT TO BE rather interesting…at least one might be forgiven for thinking so…

OTOH, Michael Anton’s perceptive article (linked to above) explains why EVEN IF the Hunter-Dad nexus IS thrust out in the open in living technicolor, in blinding day-glos, the Democrats believe there’s no reason at all for them to worry…
(Same reason why they don’t have to worry that there’s a vegetable in the “Oval Office” with a glib, inarticulate, cackling fruitcake as a side-kick/replacement.)

It just doesn’t matter. If you want to understand why, read the Anton link.

  9. I’m having a light breakfast at Asian Street Eatery on El Camino Real here in California and the Bee Gees “Nobody Gets Too Much Love Anymore” just came on.

    Is there no escape?

  10. Haven’t read the Anton article yet, but I believe more vote fraud is a certainty.

I was at the DMV recently, getting my Real-ID. Several weeks ago, I didn’t notice that my current driver’s license was useless for federal ID purposes until it was too late.

However, as a regular voter I didn’t want to register to vote and that was an option. Then they went ahead and sent all my info. to the registrar of voters anyway. So now I’ve got to double check that there won’t be two registrations under my name.

I heard a small discussion of the corporate minimum tax on the tube. One topic in the halls of congress is that depreciation will be excluded from profit calculations, and this will have large negative consequences for businesses that are building out or doing much maintenance or are just very hardware intensive.

According to CNBC the profit calc. is supposed to be on “book income” which the web tells me is GAAP earnings before taxes, (EBT or EBIT?). But if depreciation is excluded then it maybe is EBITD or EBITDA?

This will absolutely send more manufacturing jobs overseas.

I saw that Larry Summers stated very recently that the current environment of relatively high inflation is a good time for a tax increase. That is, taxes like high interest rates will suppress demand thereby bringing inflation down. However, it seems to me that is only true for individual taxes.

Increased corporate taxes will get passed on as higher purchase prices. (Or do you suppose they will cut wages instead? Ha.) Higher individual taxes means less disposable income, which would lower demand.

  11. physicsguy, that article about CT’s electric buses is wonderful. Scrolling down for the photo was worth the wait. 🙂

  12. Hey, physicsguy, some of us are stuck in CT for the time being. No need to gloat about our problems.

  13. PA+Cat,

I have still have many friends and family in CT. In fact I will be there in a week for a quick visit. MoSun and the New England Air Museum are on my “to do” list.

Lamont, et al are such a bunch of arrogant assholes, I just can’t help it when it blows up (literally) in their faces.

  14. From Miguel’s link

Manchin, a senator from WEST VIRGINIA, has included a COAL TAX HIKE in his bill.

    It’s a 110% tax increase.

In other news I heard today, Manchin gets authorization for a nat. gas pipeline constructed from W. Virginia to Virginia in that new legislation proposal.

  15. I doubt that pipeline is worth what Manchin is giving away, but maybe he’s at the end of his career and no longer cares much about WV.

  16. Was driving past Amazon distribution center last week. Over twenty Mercedes Sprinter delivery vans on the road. Eventually those vans, and thousands more will outlive their usefulness and be replaced.

I wonder how affordable they will be for homeless, or if they will all be scrapped and crushed.

  17. Fullmoon,
We’re starting to get a collection of old, old class C and A RV’s permanently parked just off a couple of streets in town. They were moving every week or so, but I guess the police have given up making them move.

The temperature is 105° right now and I doubt they’re running any generators, so it must be an oven inside.

  18. On the crucial “Rocky & Bullwinkle” front, we have good news and bad news.

The good news is that tons of the original R&B are now available for free and without ads on YouTube. Here’s almost twelve hours of the first season:

–“Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends Season 1”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYNVCm48w6g

The bad news is that Amazon has rebooted R&B and it is absolutely dire. The rebooters have no idea of the silly, comfy charm of the original.

Instead the characters are manic and chirpy, informed by “The Simpsons.”

    Brr.

  19. I lived in a Ford Econoline van with two other guys for most of a school year. We slept on two foam mattress pads. Our clothes hung from hangers along the van walls.

It was Florida. In the morning we drove to the beach and showered. Then we went to a diner for coffee and breakfast, lingering over coffee while listening to mid-70s hits on the jukebox. Somehow I remember “Mocedades – Eres Tu” in particular.

The rest of the day we were at classes or the college library. We ate ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch and dinner. We had late night coffee at IHOP. Occasionally we splurged on a half-gallon of Breyer’s mint chocolate chip ice cream and spooned it all up in one sitting.

We were broke and saving rent. It wasn’t a bad life. We kinda had fun with it. But it wasn’t an all-in-one-van solution.
