It’s come to this — 56 Comments

  1. How in the world did this person get a job teaching law at Cal Berkley?

And – for the record – Senator Hawley is an alum of the Jesuit high school of Kansas City. He learned to think clearly from a young age.

  2. Yet another example of “They’re really not that smart.”

The vast majority who use “birthing people” language don’t understand what they’re actually saying or why. It’s the rhetorical equivalent of 1960s and 1970s fashions people look back on now and can’t understand how anyone could think it looked good.

    Mike

  3. East coast liberal.

“ She graduated as valedictorian from Spelman College, receiving her degree in three years. She received her J.D. from Columbia Law School and her Ph.D., with distinction, from Columbia University’s Department of Anthropology. While in law school, she was a teaching assistant for the former dean, David Leebron (Torts), as well as for the late E. Allan Farnsworth (Contracts). She was a member of the Columbia Law Review and a Kent Scholar. She speaks fluent Spanish and basic Arabic, and she is a classically trained ballet dancer.”

  4. And yet “she” doesn’t know what a woman “is” as opposed to, wants to be?

  5. Aaron Sibarium has written very well about the infection of law schools throughout the land by the virus of “wokeness” (medical schools have also been affected). Khiara Bridges, an advocate of CRT, is hardly an anomaly, her like being found at Stanford Law, Yale Law, and all the other schools which turn out so many of the mis-educated pseudo-intellectuals produced by our so-called “meritocracy” and occupying the most prominent positions of power in all areas of national life, from corporate boardrooms to Big Tech to Wall Street and, of course, including DC’s foetid swamp.

  6. This just proves that a person can have a raft of academic degrees and still be insane.

  7. Get enough people who think like this and have law school degrees into the judiciary and the constitution will truly be a dead letter.

  8. Yes Kate, and if not insane, certainly not wise. I work with many JD’s who have graduated from the best of schools. Not a Solomon among them.

  9. The problem these people have is that anyone who is a mother, or who has a mother, knows who can have babies and who cannot.

  10. Once you’re labeled a hater, the debate or discussion ends. After all, there is no debating or you discussing with Hitler

  11. These people need to be ridiculed relentlessly. It is the single most effective tactic one can use in this day and age.

  12. How does this trans attitude impact medical care?

If you insist that you are a “male” or a ‘female”, will future doctors and other medical personnel make a mistake in a diagnosis since they have to be correct identifying your “gender”.

For example, if I declared myself a male and made enough physical changes that I looked like a male, would the doctor, not knowing my history, look for cervical cancer or order a mammogram? I’ve had enough annual physicals where the doctor never really looked at me, but just typed in the computer. The nurse took the vitals. So, they were relying on what I said were my symptoms/medical issues.

I’ve switched to a direct patient care practice – flat rate per month, unlimited contacts, cheaper drugs, lab and radiology. Great conversations with the doctor… when I had covid, I just emailed my O2, BP, temp, and symptoms on a daily basis to the doctor. I got a response on a daily basis. Try that with a standard practice..

  13. with distinction, from Columbia University’s Department of Anthropology – Oh well, another wasted Degree.

I am truly flummoxed at the thinking by people like her (Yes, D’ it her). Then to retreat to name calling is typical. Talking down to the Senator wasn’t a good look either.

Being an Attorney she might have chosen her words better. Yes, a Woman that is transitioning to Male may get pregnant, as can all Cis gender Women (not all Women do get pregnant), but don’t see how a Man transitioning to a Woman can get pregnant. Non binary woman can get pregnant. Throwing in the transphobic and violence arguments just made her look and sound stupid.

  14. By her own logic of argument, she is denying women exist if excluding them from mention is her definition.

  15. I am sure I am not the first to ask this- I know I am not-but do the people who insist that “ trans- women” are really women believe that a person can change their race as well, like Rachel Dozzel, or whatever her name is ?
I realized the other day that the word “ trans” is itself manipulation of the language because it it saying a person has “ transitioned” . So if a person has “ transitioned” how can you say they are just confused ?
Also, realized the other day that the switch from “ sex change “, which was a common term not that many years ago, to “ gender transition” , is another manipulation of the language because it separates gender from sex.

  16. Comments at the video:

“Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.” Mark Twain

“It is usually futile to try to talk facts and analysis to people who are enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance.” Thomas Sowell

  17. I grew up around people like this law professor. As students they are obsessed about grades and being accepted into the ‘right’ school, getting the right career in the top company or institution, etc. Their families and sub-culture cheer them on. Their burning passion to fulfill an ideal of success and to ‘be somebody’ is so great that it over rides their common judgement to a point where they are willing and able to expound with a straight face the silliest nonsense imaginable.

  18. “Yet another example of “They’re really not that smart.” MBunge

Unethical though it be, how stupid is it to claim that your questioner’s line of questioning reveals them to be transphobic?
Phobic: “Used to describe a political or cultural view opposed to the norm….. as defined by the observer.” The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition.

As sheldon on rightly points out, “Once you’re labeled a hater, the debate or discussion ends. After all, there is no debating or you discussing with Hitler.”

Notice that she only responded to Hawley’s reasonable follow up by reiterating that his question demonstrated his transphobia. She refused to directly engage his questions.

  19. “These people need to be ridiculed relentlessly.” Yancey Ward

Thus ‘proving’ your transphobia. You hater you.

  20. Liz wonders,
“If you insist that you are a “male” or a ‘female”, will future doctors and other medical personnel make a mistake in a diagnosis since they have to be correct identifying your “gender”.

Having demonstrated their unconscious bias and transphobia, the mob’s ‘justice’ system will ensure that they are made a suitable example. As nothing is more important than maintaining the ideological pillars that support TRUTH.

  21. https://anthropology.columbia.edu/content/reproducing-race-pregnancy-racialization

The Anthropology Department at Columbia is begging to be shut down. This woman has done no research in the realm of archaeology, palaeoathropology, physical anthropology, primatology, or linguistics. None of her ‘fieldwork’ was done abroad, much less among primitive populations. This is what ‘with distinction’ means in that department.

GoogleScholar picks up dozens of articles by this woman in law reviews and in low rent academic journals put out by victimology faculties. By all appearances, she produces grievance literature, but I’m not masochistic enough to wade through it.

  22. jon baker:

Actually, you are still somewhat behind the times. It is really called sex affirmation these days, which means you are just affirming and solidifying what you always were deep inside.

  23. Ha. I was thinking, “What, no Life of Brian clip?” And there it is. It’s so perfect.

  24. AesopFan,

She reeks of moral superiority and she may be ignorant but she is not stupid.

To paraphrase Sowell, It is futile to respond with facts, reason and logic when dealing with ideological fanatics.

History has repeatedly shown that when ideological fanatics acquire enough power, they seek to impose with force their ideology upon those who refuse to embrace their ideology.

Trudeau’s treatment of peacefully protesting truckers and the treatment of Jan. 6th political prisoners in our American Gulag are recent examples of how they will treat those who resist.

There is no room for “live and let live” in the minds of ideological fanatics. To such a mind, strong disagreement is an intolerable anathema.

  25. Everything else being the same, imagine how ‘witness’ Khiara Bridges would treat Hawley, if she were the Senator and he the witness.

Oops, we don’t have to imagine it, that mind set is on display in the democrat’s kangaroo court.

  26. neo’s topic title reminds me of this delightful chestnut from Leonard Cohen’s suicidal period:
    ____________________________________

That’s a hard one to remember
Yes, it makes you clench your fist
And then the veins stand out like highways
    All along your wrist

And yes, it’s come to this
    It’s come to this
And wasn’t it a long way down?
Wasn’t it a strange way down?

–“Leonard Cohen – Dress Rehearsal Rag (Official Audio)”

    ____________________________________

Yes, it’s come to this and I would argue Democrats are contemplating a kind of suicide. It certainly has been a long, strange way down.

  27. a Woman that is transitioning to Male may get pregnant

Yep: the result of a “Grindr one-night stand”: “‘It was a huge shock, but I fell in love with my bump,’ said [Ash] Schade, who called giving birth ‘one of the most masculine things’ he’s ever done. . . . A month into pregnancy, Schade met his current husband, Jordan, 28. Eight months later, Ronan was born in October 2020. Now the pair are raising the child together, with the support of friends, the trans community and the Satanic Temple church, of which he’s a member. But there’s more in store for this unconventional family. The father of one, who underwent surgery to have his breasts removed following Ronan’s birth, has said that he now wants more children and is holding off on a full gender-reassignment procedure to do so.”

  28. Geoffrey Britain,

Some may “use” the word phobic to describe a view opposed to the norm, but that is not what the word phobic means.

    Phobic comes from Greek. Fear.

As Senator Hawley makes clear, we have to fight for clarity and truth in communication.

Senator Hawley shows that he does not fear trans people.
    Professor Bridges shows she does.

  29. Not too many years ago, when people became so besotted with the gravity of their own ridiculous thinking, and insisted on making a public spectacle of themselves, they would receive a healthy smack to remind them not to waste everyone else’s time. Bygone days, to be sure, but: We are willing hostages to this nonsense, until we decide not to be. She is tying up the attention of Congress, for crying out loud, on behalf of a strident handful of mentally-ill people. Is our budget balanced? The military standing at prefect readiness? The roads smoothly paved and bridges sound? The children well-educated and healthy? Criminy.

  30. Rufus T: agreed. No intellectually competent and serious person should acquiesce in the use of those pseudo-scientific “*phobe” terms. It bothers me when I see conservatives use “homophobe” as if it meant what its inventors intended.

  31. Yet another example of “They’re really not that smart.”

I think she likely is smart, though perhaps more articulate than intelligent. I think she has what you might call decayed intelligence.

Here’s a hypothesis: the cultural life of the black population – high and low – is going through a decadent period right now. In popular music, this is manifest in Dizzy Gillespie, Dinah Washington, Brook Benton, and Barry White giving way to the purveyors of rap. In intellectual life, this is manifest in an absorption in the Black Experience as a topic as opposed to all of the things to which the life of the mind might turn. Black students are given all sorts of positive feedback for doing this – see, for example, the issue of her time as a graduate student at Columbia. Every talent she had in 1995 has been misallocated and squandered. The result is she’s had all kinds of academic accolades, but she says crazy stuff and her reaction to Hawley is to play games with him of the sort you see in sorry-assed domestic arguments. Girl, this isn’t your husband reviewing the credit card bill with you.

  32. No intellectually competent and serious person should acquiesce in the use of those pseudo-scientific “*phobe” terms.

I’d be inclined to pugnacious and say “you say that like it’s a bad thing”.

  33. Anyone else here a Tennessee Williams buff? I am.

What’s that smell in this room? Didn’t you notice it, Brick? Didn’t you notice a powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room? There ain’t nothin’ more powerful than the odor of mendacity. You can smell it. It smells like death.

Mendacity is death. We’ve got ‘em right where we want ‘em.

  34. Call yourself what you want. Dress how you want. Live with whomever you prefer. Join whatever group you want, and everyone there can agree on whatever they want among themselves. I care not a bit.

Expect me to fund that life, or demand that I recite your creeds, and we will no longer have a friendly day. Send the government to force my compliance, and we will not have peaceful relations.

  35. The late Col. Jeff Cooper once addressed the word ‘homophobe’ with something like ‘Just because I disapprove of or dislike something, doesn’t mean that I am afraid of it.’

The misuse of -phobe is like the Soviets declaring their political opponents mentally ill, and institutionalizing them.

  36. @ Art Deco: None of her ‘fieldwork’ was done abroad, much less among primitive populations.
What?! testifying before a Congressional committee doesn’t count?

  37. Facts are Transphobic(TM).
    Science is Transphobic(TM).
    Reality is Transphobic(TM).

Therefore, all three must be fought tooth, claw and nail.

Until all dissent is wiped out; all dissenters canceled, banished, censored, intimidated, ridiculed, ATTACKED…UNLESS and UNTIL they “see the light”…upon which they will, if they atone sufficiently and express all necessary regret and remorse be re-admitted to society.

Indeed, glorious “DIVERSITY” will compel us to agree to even-more-glorious UNIFORMITY of opinion.

  40. Barry Meislin:

That is one big reason why de-transitioners are shunned and reviled by leftists, for the most part. De-transitioning spoils the narrative.

  41. I object to the use of “gender” instead of “sex,” although its use does make clear that “gender” is a matter of feelings while sex is a matter of biology.

I object also to the misuse of “phobia” to mean criticism or disagreement.

  42. A mature adult has learned that it is possible to disagree without throwing a temper tantrum.

A mature adult learns that the first step toward wisdom is recognizing one’s ignorance, foolishness and tendency to err. That science is never settled. As the Royal Society affirmed centuries ago — no one has the last word. Appeal to authority is a logical fallacy.

Having acknowledged that one can err, the mature adult affirms that others may well disagree in good faith. And that our shared humanity requires all of us to treat each other with grace and respect — even when we disagree.

This professor is not a mature adult. She’s a toddler.

  43. In defense of Bridges list of degrees, in her earlier days she did produce relatively interesting, if not important academic works, in regards to possible stratification of medical treatment to non-whites and women in urban America.

As someone who has an interest in ethnography and considers it an important piece that lends itself to coloring American life in general, I think she was at her strongest when she wasn’t entirely influenced by the Woke secular religion that we see today; sometimes being “just liberal” is alright – it won’t necessarily impede on ones potential. But now, as an established academic? She’s not working in her wheelhouse and it shows. She’s simply repeating the rhetoric of the LGBT+ gospel of Wokeness. From Spelman to Columbia, she could’ve fooled everyone in that she received her education from The Daily Beast and Tumblr. It’s a shame. Everything that goes Woke turns to shit.

  44. Just came across this powerful, poignant post…by someone with intimate knowledge of perversity….
“The Collateral Damage of a Movement”—
    https://pjmedia.com/columns/lincolnbrown/2022/07/12/the-collateral-damage-of-a-movement-n1612409
    Final graf:
“…Let a child stay a child for as long as they can. Let them play with Barbies, trucks, dinosaurs, tea sets, and lightsabers for as long as possible. If they are gay or trans, they will discover that in due time. If they are straight, do not try to make them into anything else. Let them be children before all else. The world will come for them soon enough. Please, do not do anything to hasten that moment for you or your ego. No child needs that burden and the world does not need any more stories like mine.”

  45. Yes to your link, Barry Meislin. Forcing adult problems and concerns on children is abusive. Let them be children.

  46. As a nominal ‘trans’ person, it is not transphobic to ASK A QUESTION. Yes, we, as a community commit suicide at a disproportional rate, but that is far more caused by a community and family antagonistic approach to someone that deviates from the accepted norm.

I am a woman, and to an extent allowed by current medicine, female. I do NOT have the correct chromosomes, but hormonally, physically, emotionally and psychologically, I am. BUT when I go to the doctor I inform them of the “biological reality” that while my recent mammogram was necessary (at 64), I ALSO need an occasional PROSTRATE exam. I don’t pretend otherwise.

Except the average person on the street, in stores, while traveling doesn’t need to know my biological history – I only ask (as do the MAJORITY of us) that you look to our presentation to determine where we fall on the binary.

We don’t change our gender – therefore, transgender is inaccurate. We change our sex, the physical attributes of our body’s representation of biological sex – therefore transsex(ual) is the correct term. And yes, my birth certificate reflects my current sex and name. But I had to have surgery to obtain that.

  47. Tracy C Coyle:

You are a reasonable person who accepts reality.

Bridges and her fellow leftist activists want the ordinary person to accept concepts that deny reality and to shut up because any questioning or disagreement equals violence.

I think at this point the vast majority of people would be willing to live and let live. But they are not willing to deny reality and/or to shut up if they disagree with some of the more radical things the left is demanding.

  48. What?! testifying before a Congressional committee doesn’t count?

She hung around a hospital in Manhattan for 15 months.
