The NYC vaccine mandates and the first responders
The vaccine mandates in New York for police and firefighters mean that the city stands to lose about 20% of its firefighter first responders and some unknown number of its police too:
New York City’s first responders are grappling with a potential new reality as a result of the city-issued vaccine mandate, with the fire department revealing it will need to close as much as 20% of its fire companies and will have 20% fewer ambulances to run calls.
The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) announced the potential shortages on Wednesday when the New York Police Department (NYPD) was also pushing for more employee vaccinations as the mandate deadline looms…
A spokesperson for the NYPD did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request seeking comment, but told The Associated Press: “We will be prepared for any changes in personnel due to the mandate.”
According to the New York Post, 75% of vaccinated personnel within the NYPD – the largest police force in the country – consists of 63% of police officers who work the streets of the city. An estimated 6,000 remain unvaccinated, according to the report.
It’s not as though vaccines are some absolute protection against COVID, although they help, and vaccinated people apparently can spread the disease. What’s more, New York is doing pretty well with COVID right now, so what’s this Draconian stuff all about?
This would seem like madness – and yet there’s method to it, if you think about it and are cynical enough.
If you believe that the left is employing a Cloward-Piven strategy, it’s about deliberately sowing chaos and justifying more leftist control and more leftist crackdowns on the population as a whole, the right, and those of an independent streak. And they are doing it in a fairly clandestine manner under the guise of public health.
There’s almost no other logical explanation possible.
The minute the “public health” rules stop making rational sense, something else is going on.
As many have pointed out online, these first responders are the people who have been on the job throughout the epidemic. To boot them out of their jobs now makes no sense.
American Airlines seems to be having one of those single airline specific weather issues today. 700 flights cancelled because of ‘weather and staffing issues’.
Yep, it’s the weather that’s it.
Apparently the Merck Covid therapeutic is just sitting waiting to be cleared by the FDA. Of course, if approved that would be one more reason why vaccine mandates are not needed (have no idea if the Merck thing works but the ‘experts’ say it does and it’s their rules).
Crime in NYC is increasingly rampant, even in such formerly safe neighborhoods as the UWS (which happens to be my old home) and on the subway, where a shocking video recently gone viral showed a strong black man hitting a small white woman in the face while the other train-riders calmly filmed the attack on their smartphones. No-one should be fooled into believing that Eric Adams, almost certain to win next week’s election, will be much better than de Blasio, although it would be nearly impossible to be more incompetent. Arguing against the C-P thesis as underlying the insanity of the destructive policies of our corrupt ruling class is also increasingly difficult.

I agree that no other plausible explanation of the left’s behavior exists.
They imagine that the great majority of Americans will accept their enslavement. They shall learn otherwise. If they’re very lucky, it will be a brief and relatively painless lesson. But given their ideological fanaticism, that is unlikely.

May just be a case of having gone out on a limb and not knowing how to get back in. And maybe it’s a desire for long-term power and control, but in addition there’s the more short-term desire for money.
Remember those % of vaccinated targets we had about a year ago? People were building those vaccination rates into their financial forecasts.
Pharmaceutical companies, obviously, but also the very healthcare providers who are now contemplating firing their staff who won’t get vaccinated.
The vaccine is described as “free”. It’s not of course, the Federal government is paying for the doses (with our money, and generally they are happy to buy their friends and clients with our money). In addition, the medical personnel who administer the doses are getting paid to give the injection. In Washington State Medicaid (which is the lowest payer) pays $40 per injection: two Pfizer shots are $80 to the healthcare provider who administers them.

I live in Washington, I’ve been vaccinated. Maybe 5, maybe 10 minutes of total time spent on collecting my information and vaccinating me. $4 dollars a minute? I’m not on Medicaid, don’t know what commercial insurance pays but 300% – 400% of Medicaid is a rough average I know.
When the population missed its vaccination target, the pharmaceutical companies and healthcare providers missed theirs. And they want to know what their friends in the Federal and state government are going to do about it.
This is not about public health.
This is about putting everyone in a data base.

The vaccination is not what it’s being sold as. It is not a silver bullet hat makes one immune. It prevents serious disease in 95% of recipients.(give or take.) It decreases in potency in six months. Boosters are needed to maintain potency. The people who need to be vaccinated, those over 65 and those younger who are diabetic or obese, have mostly been vaccinated. Those who have had the virus and recovered have better, more robust immunity than the vaxed, according to a Cleveland Clinic study. Yet, no recognition of their immunity is allowed. Crazy.
The insistence on relying primarily on Vaccines, rather than going vigorously after therapeutics as an adjunct to vaccines is a strange strategy. Can it be explained by greed? Or are the Progs really testing the waters to see how far they can go with dictatorial mandates? Or do these people like our Governor, King Jay, really believe that the vaccine will give us herd immunity? Yes, Jay, probably still believes that because……….science. 🙂
People are going to die of heart attacks, strokes, gun shot wounds, and other emergencies because of these mandates. There won’t be EMTs, doctors, and nurses when they are needed. Crime will get worse because there won’t be enough officers to stop it. Why don’t these petty dictators see that?

That is not exactly correct–it decreases in efficacy almost immediately upon injection, getting down to the low teens (or lower) by six months. Remember the July 4 outbreak on Cape Cod, with 75% of infected jabbed–the majority of those fellows were injected in March/April likely, so they were only four or five months out.
Additionally, the first couple of weeks after a reinjection appears to be a time when cellular immunity is depressed, so people are even more vulnerable to infection.
Remember the advisory panel voted 16-2 against Boosters for all; it is Wallensky who declared “at risk workers” should get them.
It is obvious that the advisory panel thinks best public health practice is allowing the non vulnerable to get Covid.
(They must have been far more “independent” than the panelists who served on the one for the small children. Please note if you have to make that decision–NHS in UK will NOT be injecting their non-vulnerable children.)

What I keep seeing not being mentioned is that the vaccines were designed for the protein spike on the the alpha. We are now on the down side of the delta variant. It is not at all surprising that the vaccines show a high breakthrough percentage as the primary infection at present is the delta. Florida is now down to the lowest per capita infection rate in the country as the delta has gone through and most have now natural immunity. My wife asked the other day if we should think about a 3rd shot, and I said absolutely not! It’s coding for the wrong variant, and the reports from Israel and the UK on harmful side effects is disturbing.

I’m a FDNY Deputy Chief with 33 years of service. I love the fire department and believe in its mission. However, because of the vaccine mandate, I just put my paper in to retire. I had covid and have the anti-bodies. Of course the mandates have nothing to do with science. We holdouts are being coerced into saying 2+2=5. I feel like a darkness has descended over this world. Definitely Cloward-Piven.

Data from UK, Israel, Iceland, Ireland have all backed up the INeffectiveness of the jab, as Cape Cod indicated back in July, despite your concerns about that group not being reflective of society in general.

Geoffrey Britain, I understand your point that the Pros don’t care. Yet, I find i difficult to believe that they don’t understand how their policies might affect their election chances. Yes, the MSM will cover for them, but even LIVs can see increasing crime, unnecessary deaths, empty shelves, increasing prices, etc. Those things will not help them come election day. Of course, maybe they think they have mastered the art of election fraud and don’t care. We’ll see next November.
Liz @12:43, I posted that link on a thread when Neo was busy for the afternoon. That video is, IMO, very important info that deserves widespread dissemination. Too many people believe the vaccine is more effective than it is and have swallowed the misinformation that there is no therapeutic treatment available or desirable.

Assuming there will be “elections” in the years to come, they’re not worried about those either (though this could change).
However, they ARE worried about Virginia because of their massive—and very PUBLIC—screw ups, lies, insults and denigration of regular people, regular folks; but they are still confident that they can generate enough “enthusiasm” when “all” the “votes” are “counted”—they’ve even been generous enough to let us know that we shouldn’t count on “ALL” the “votes” being “counted” before Friday….which should give them enough time to find sufficient ballots under the tiles, inside mattresses, on zip drives, just plain “lost” or “misplaced” or whatever. (And if it takes till Saturday, or Sunday, or Monday…well, that’s democracy….)
If I understand what’s going on correctly (always a big “IF”) they’ve warned the Republicans that if the results aren’t the right ones (i.e., if the Republicans win), then the election will be challenged till the cows home. (This simply because for the Projectionist Party of America, if Republicans win, it means the latter HAD TO HAVE CHEATED. QED.)
