  1. Fascinating video, as I’m a Napoleonic era aficionado. The sock placed around the neck in military uniforms was stiff to keep the soldiers head straight.
Will, have to drop this on the Chess/Dress thread this evening.

  2. From Cafe Hayek — a number of interesting pieces regarding Covid ATM:

  3. Skip– maybe you’ve already seen this video, but in case you haven’t, here’s a 17-minute video from your friends at Mackinac State Historic Parks (Michigan) on how a British Grenadier got dressed in the a.m.:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAjq6wGnql4&ab_channel=MackinacStateHistoricParks

And– shamelessly swiped from Gerard’s American Digest: Shinjuku Cat, a giant kitty projected in 3D on a billboard in the Shinjuku neighborhood of Tokyo.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2ASuiv7nwY&t=164s&ab_channel=TOKYO%E3%81%90%E3%82%8B%E3%81%90%E3%82%8B

According to the advertising company that owns the space,”There are many reasons we decided to display the cat, but one of the big reasons is that with [the] corona[virus], the world became very dark,” Unika spokesperson Takayuki Ohkawa told Japan Times. “Through the cat display, we wanted to revive Shinjuku and make it brighter.”

  4. Skip– I’m glad you liked the video; there’s a surprising amount of good military history (including the history of military uniforms) out there that hasn’t yet been censored by the snowflakes.

  5. Over at Ace, a commenter teased this new episode of Viva Frei “and Barnes had Alex Jones on this week. There was an interesting discussion of where Alex gets his information. Also a demonstration of how he puts it together. Viva got steam-rolled a couple of times. Barnes less so but I think Barnes is representing him in some legal matters … of which there were many more than I had heard about previously.”

    Sound like fun!

  6. Revolver News does a long, deep dive: South Africa. What does a nation refounded on CRT lines look like?

This. 25% GDP decline since 2012. Over 32% unemployment. Water and power shortages lasting into the foreseeable future. And racial set-asides for everything with racist anti-white redistribution as the leading political contender to the ongoing massive political corruption! And now mass rioting.

Ooh, goody. The US can’t wait!

  7. This. 25% GDP decline since 2012. Over 32% unemployment. Water and power shortages lasting into the foreseeable future.

GDP per capita (ppp) was about 10% off it’s peak during the COVID year of 2020. The situation during the period running from 2012 to 2019 was one of stagnation in this metric. The labor market dysfunction (an employment-to-population ratio of 0.38; about 0.60 would be normal in an occidental country) has been a consistent problem; you see metrics like that in Arab countries quite commonly; another place you see that is in Puerto Rico).
