The Democrats’ “Trump’s Katrina” plan continues apace — 24 Comments

  1. There is the possibility of their plan being from ACME, Inc. and their wiley plan may have the opposite effect. People being fed up with lockdowns and fear mongering. One can hope it is so.

Maybe I should quantify that hope with some percentages?

  2. Agree 100%.

But wouldn’t it be great if an insider Dem went rogue and revealed the inner workings of the Democrat party on this?

Voter fraud is what the Dems do and mail-in voting helped them greatly to run their cheating schemes.

  3. “….What made those Germans and Russians different was not their coronary conditions, accounting for hard hearts, nor their ophthalmology or myopia accounting for what they could not see. The reason those fools came to make their peace with living under Communism that consigned them to second-class life and failed economies and starvations from five-year plans that never worked was repression reinforced by … a Fake and Corrupt News and Entertainment Media. The reason for Hitler and his remaining in power was repression reinforced by … a Fake and Corrupt News and Entertainment Media…..”

“…Now it is our turn in history to see what the great, vaunted “American people” do after four years of Pravda, Izvestia, and Der Stürmer–quality journalism. Fake news. Hidden news. Lies. Stories that have no root in reality. Real stories that never see the light of day. Censorship….”

  4. As I mentioned previously the “cases” have spiked beyond all reason in the last 4 days now making this look like mid April or mid June. I don’t think the numbers are being manipulated. However, the push for on-demand testing (I see lots of ads here for everyone to “get tested!”) and the low bar set by testing companies for a “positive” result is pushing “cases” to new records. I only track a few states, but it’s the blue states where this is really happening. Florida is completely open, and according to my daughter, “life is pretty normal there”; few to no masks, etc. Georgia’s cases going down along with deaths. Meanwhile here in CT “cases” are spiking, though hospitalizations and deaths are up very slightly even though CT is 100% masked. I wish I knew what the distribution curve of attitudes really looks like here in CT. I’m guessing from observation it’s a bell curve, but wouldn’t be surprised by a bimodal distribution where political inclination is a deciding factor.

I was told today by a leftist that people like me who don’t buy into the covid panic should be “rounded up and disposed of”. God help us if these people win on Tuesday.

Some here could benefit from concluding para:

“Another old saying relevant here is that in war, truth is the first casualty. The reason for this is war is a conflict between two sides, neither of which has a reason to see things from the point of view of the other side. It is the ultimate partisan conflict. If there is ever going to be a force to topple the current Left, their first task will be to eliminate those more concerned about truth and reason than the welfare of genuine people.”

  6. As I mentioned previously the “cases” have spiked beyond all reason in the last 4 days now making this look like mid April or mid June.

Worldometers has a helpful feature where you can ask it to display the seven-day moving average of case reports. From August 10th to October 10th in Connecticut, the seven-day moving average of case reports increased from 72 to 249. From Aug. 28 to October 28, the seven day moving average of deaths increased from 1 to 5. You see these ratios in Europe, too, with change in the death count about 0.02 x the change in the case count. It’s just that the case count for some reason is going up a great deal faster in France than it is in American cities with a similar temperature range to that of Paris. Is it the density of French cities?

(In Ohio, the case count from Aug. 10 to Oct. 10 went up by 250; the death count did not increase at all from Aug. 28 to Oct. 28. In Penna., the case count increased by 468 and the death count by 10 – i.e. by the 0.02x factor you see elsewhere. The variation is puzzling).

  7. If you look abroad, that ratio is about 0.005x in Canada and 0.006x in Sweden. These are places people should be moving indoors for the winter.

  8. John Tyler:

Why do you think that doesn’t make sense? The uptick appears to be in younger people, who are far less likely to need hospitalization. In addition, the tests are more sensitive and are almost certainly picking up more of the very mild cases, probably even asymptomatic cases. So it makes sense that the hospitalization rates would not be rising even though cases are.

  9. Here you can find the hospitalization rates in the USA from the virus.

Thanks for the link. NB, if you limit it to the cold weather states, you see some have seen increasing hospitalizations (Michigan) and some have not (Ohio). Again, a puzzle.

  10. “…rounded up and disposed of…”

Social media, the Democratic Party and the Mainstream Corrupt Media partnering to bring out the very best in people….

But as we’re six days away from apocalypse or from redemption (or possibly, from redemption with a huge side order of apocalypse) Trump should get on the stump this weekend, beat his ample breast and just say, loud and clear: “MEA CULPA”.

“Yes, I will admit it. I AM GUILTY, guilty of starting COVID.
And I am guilty of bringing it to America.
I’m guilty of stopping flights from China early on, but not from Europe, so that the virus could get into the East Coast via Italy.
And I’m guilty of putting all those sick people in senior citizens home so that those other seniors could get sick, too. (What could I have been thinking of?)
I’m guilty of deciding that people who die of complications from a variety of other medical issues, including COVID, must be classified as having been killed by COVID.
And I’m guilty of all those jobs lost, educations delayed, lives put on hold, businesses wrecked, joy squandered.
    I AM GUILTY.
How can I ever be forgiven?…
I’m guilty of increasing testing so that more people are aware that they have COVID.
And I’m guilty of all those false positives, that play with people’s worst fears and emotions.
I’m guilty of encouraging those protesters—and mostly-peaceful protesters—to congregate—and mostly congregate(?)—in the streets in their hundreds and possibly in their thousands. (What could I have been thinking of?)
And I’m guilty of allowing Nancy Pelosi to consistently hold up government assistance to those who dearly need that assistance so that they and their families and their businesses might be able to survive. (How can I ever forgive myself?)
I’m guilty for the COVID eruptions in China and in practically every single country in Europe. And in South America. And India. Mexico. It is my fault that they have experienced the wrath of this dire plague, dying in their thousands and tens of thousands and hundreds of thousand, in Italy, in France, in Spain, in Germany, in Russia, in Scandinavia, in the UK, in Turkey, in Iran, in Brazil, in Argentina. I AM GUILTY. (How can I ever live with myself.)
    MEA CULPA… MEA CULPA.
Yes, I’m guilty that no vaccine has yet been devised, though the best minds in our generation have been working on it, may they be successful and soon. (I’m also guilty that people participating in vaccine testing have gotten sick and even died trying to help in the effort, valuable lives wasted, may the Lord forgive me.)
And I’m guilty that I followed the advice of some of the very best epidemiologists in our great country, first telling you that masks were not necessary, and then telling you that they were, and then telling you that they weren’t, and then telling you that they might help—it’s up to you—and then telling you….HOLD ON, WHERE WAS I? ….Oh, yeah, I AM GUILTY and beg your forgiveness, a forgiveness I fully understand that I DO NOT DESERVE.
    MEA CULPA. MEA CULPA.
I’m guilty of locking you down and then opening things up and then locking you down again.
And I’m guilty that the WHO has been, um, less than helpful in this whole debacle. Indeed I should have been more encouraging, more loving, more admiring of their sincere efforts to help humanity. There can be no doubt that this would have made them more competent.
Because we ALL make mistakes. ALL OF US. At some time or other. All of us.
And I’m guilty because I made mistakes…because even if we ALL make mistakes, some of us are NOT ALLOWED to make mistakes. MUST not make mistakes.
I’m guilty for all the rancor and lies, the slanders and smears that have been made against me and my family and my supporters.
And I’m guilty for allowing my anger to flare up so quicky—I’m that kind of guy, I guess—and I’m guilty for not apologizing early and often. AND LOUDLY.
And I’m guilty for not recognizing that those who have harmed me do so because they know not what they do…even if they really do. And for allowing my anger to seethe, and for not asking THEIR forgiveness.
I’m guilty for global warming and I’m guilty for not inviting Greta whatsername to the White House (but I really can’t stand her…and I’m guilty of that, too….)
I’m guilty for breaking my promises, for not having finished that wall I promised you I would;l for not bringing back all those jobs to the Heartland (and elsewhere) like I promised you I would; for not being able to sustain American growth and prosperity, even in spite of COVID, though we had a good run for the first several years and I am confident that the good times will return.
And I’m guilty of all those jobs that you lost and businesses that went bust and cities whose neighborhoods were destroyed, whose citizens were shot, injured, bludgeoned, lasered. Who else could possibly be guilty but I?

I don’t know how I can ever forgive myself. I don’t know if will be able to ever forgive myself. I don’t know how my dear wife will either (and she knows a helluvalot more about me than I’ve let on tonight). But having said that, I stand before you to make one request one little request only one simple request.

From the depths of my soul:

This Tuesday, open up your hearts and allow this overweight, overwrought, overzealous, overbearing, over-the-top sinner, brimming over with LOVE for his country and ALL its people—no matter who no matter what no matter when no matter where—and find it within you to give him, by your grace and lovingkindness, four more years to be GUILTY before you….

    Thank you. And Glod bless…”

  11. “In addition, the tests are more sensitive and are almost certainly picking up more of the very mild cases, probably even asymptomatic cases.”

Neo, not just asymptomatic, but past infections that are now counted as a new “case”. ie “dead” virus RNA. I know this article I linked to previously is a bit dense, but what the author is saying is that the Cq’s (florescence cycles used to detect RNA fragments) need to be published by all the testing companies. Anything above a value of 33 is just detecting “dead RNA”, and he suspects that’s the reason for all these “cases”.

  12. physicsguy,

Yep, that’s what I’ve been saying the cycle thresholds are so sensitive they are picking up lots of meaningless virus. The thing that is amazing is the New York Times reported on this very issue on August 29!! Made no dent nothing changed.

But if you live in a blue state and aren’t still locked down like California you will be very soon.

This entire thing is one of the biggest human rights crimes in world history. Maybe the biggest when you really think about it.

  13. I’m not concerned with case counts unless they’re harbingers of death. I’m anxious about what Michigan’s going to look like in three weeks.

  14. Today I had to fill out a Covid Contact Tracing form to buy a cup of coffee and sit in a cafe with social distancing, then later to buy take-out at a restaurant.

I suspect All Things Covid are part of the Democrats’ campaign, but I doubt this stuff will go away any time soon after the election. I think authorities like the control plus it’s making the right people richer.

But a lot of people who can’t afford it are getting clobbered.

  15. Good News from Minnesota: A comment on a story in CTH — (KARE is a Msp news radio station)

“BREAKING: The U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals has struck down Minnesota’s seven-day extension for absentee ballots, saying all absentee ballots must now be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3. – KARE”

MSP STrib (very poor paper) confirms story, but with different spin.

If Trump carries Minnesota, odds are he’ll win the election. But the court battles will be interminable. Thank God for Barrett.

  16. To my mind, they did not “get a windfall”, but rather created a windfall for themselves in collusion with the Chinese government.

  17. The problem with the strategy of blaming Trump for COVID is that Europe (excluding Sweden, of course) now looks much worse than the US, as can be seen here, for example.

  18. It’s a losing gambit from a desperate team. One needs simply to go to the widely available data to compare to other countries, or to fact-check the assertions about this one. All one has to do is review the data-set. Some parameters taken in isolation will make things look dire, others make things look over-optimistic. If one is fact-checking a story, see how the quoted parameter is being played.

Most people understand the insult when Trump is being blamed for a worldwide pandemic that he handled well. The insult is against the intelligence of the person who is assumed to be too stupid to recognize that.

I check the Texas data daily. More clinical testing programs have resulted in more positive tests; but there are fewer deaths, fewer hospitalizations. Losing gambit.

I had an exposure to infection last week, tested Tuesday: No COVID, thankfully. The local center is administering about 45 – 50 tests per day.

  19. Aggie:

I hope you’re right that most people can see through it. That’s not been my experience, even with people well versed in statistics. If they already hate Trump they blame him. Of course, they already hate Trump and therefore were not going to vote for him anyway.

  20. “I hope you’re right that most people can see through it. That’s not been my experience, even with people well versed in statistics. If they already hate Trump they blame him. Of course, they already hate Trump and therefore were not going to vote for him anyway.”

You got that right Neo. The remark I referenced above that I should be rounded up and disposed of came after myself and another fellow gave a lot of data and links regarding the virus. The leftist refused to look at any of it as he already made up his mind and hates Trump and blames him.

  21. As of this morning the number of new active cases has now exceeded the June level and is now higher than anything seen since the beginning in February. Does anyone really believe the pandemic in the US is worse now than it was 8 months ago????

  22. @physicsguy, yes that’s precisely the type of thing I was referring to. Most states now have data tracking readily available; Here is one for Texas run by the Texas Tribune:

    https://apps.texastribune.org/features/2020/texas-coronavirus-cases-map/

As one scrolls down the page, it’s apparent that the disease is re-surging, but also quickly evident that new cases are the most extreme, dramatic illustration of this. Bad News! But while other parameters – hospitalizations, number of administered tests, and deaths also show increases, they reveal that these are to a far lesser degree than the initial pandemic wave.

One can see that the Positivity Rate for tests is holding steady, while the number of tests administered are still on a rising trend. I interpret that as good news.

Don’t forget to take your Vitamins C, D, and zinc. And don’t forget to administer your Vitamin V by Tuesday!

  23. Aggie, no it is not apparent the virus is re-surging. As even the NYT reported in late August, which no one paid attention to, the PCR tests can yield positives that are not indicative of an active cases. If the testing company sets the threshold for cycles too high it can detect RNA from dead virus….ie the person may have had the virus, or at least been exposed and immediately defeated it months ago, and now with testing is listed as a new active case.

I have a graph showing tests vs date along with new cases vs date…perfect correlation over the last 2 months of tests and cases.

Here in CT yesterday we had the highest number of new cases since the beginning and a record number of new tests. Of course the governor is expressing “concern” about this new surge and is threatening to shut down the state again. At the moment he is leaving up to the towns, but I expect by Monday CT will be back in lockdown…..and wonder of wonders…just in time for the election. I predict tomorrow or over the weekend calls will come forth for election postponement, or only mail-in voting.
