Today’s Bidenwatch — 48 Comments

  1. This is elder abuse. Jeebus, what is his wife thinking? Has she no soul? He’s a pathetic, pitiful, plus corrupt and dishonest, sight.
Seen some speculating that the dems plan to win with Biden and Harris, run the 25th amendment on him and…presto. Then she resigns and Pelosi….

  2. Pretty much everywhere now, I’m seeing commenters who say:
    His staff is sabotaging him!
How could they let him go live instead of pre-recording it?

Or … how could they view this pre-recorded presentation and think it was OK to release because it’s terrible!

    And so on.

    Wow.

  3. I’m reading/hearing distant rumbling to the effect that the Democrat power players may be looking to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to ride in on a white [um, Caucasian?] horse and save the day for The Party.

  4. As we’ve all witnessed: given choices of young/old, white/black/Hisp/Asian, male/femaie, gay/traditional … the Dem voter base discarded everyone except an ancient white guy with dementia.

Not Repubs. Not Independents. The Dem base did this. Incredible.

  5. He should probably start snorting coke or doing dexydrines or something to snap out of his stupor . . . anything but this disaster. Criminy.

  6. Since there are several primaries to happen, Cuomo could jump in without too much difficulty or one of the ones who “suspended” their campaigns could restart them. But if the Democrat electorate do not see or hear these clips, would they know the reasons to vote for a different candidate?

  7. The Cuomo rumors might be true. I’m starting to see a lot of stories in social media about how he’s displaying such leadership.

  8. By the way, I suppose everyone has seen but I mention nevertheless that equally senile Speaker Nancy Pelosi has thrown up the white flag surrendering her 1119 page $2.5 trillion progressive extravaganza corona2019 bill. The House will apparently hold a voice vote on the Senate measure.

So much for that, but let the word of her and the Democrats’ perfidy be sounded throughout the land: Remember come November.

  9. The Democrats are in a tough spot. Their traditional base was Blacks, union workers, and the South. The South is gone and Trump is stealing the workers and maybe even some to the Blacks. Meanwhile technical elites and academics are driving the policy agenda. Unfortunately, there are not enough technical elites and academics to make up the losses. Biden was their best hope.

Disclaimer: I don’t know squat about politics but like to babble now and then.

  10. I’m not so sure that the Democrat party was planning on being stuck with Biden. At a certain point it was if they suddenly realized that Bernie was going to win, so they scrambled and picked Biden, whose star was falling at that moment.

  11. Re: Cuomo,

After the press conference I watched today, live from Javits Center, that Cuomo gave, I realized he’s aiming for some kind of deal. Be it Biden’s VP pick or to have them offer it to him somehow (because we all know the DNC will change whatever rules the DNC needs to change to make sure the candidate the ywant is on the ballot).

Up until today, there had been some cordial talk, at least on screen, between Trump and Cuomo with regards to this latest crisis. But Cuomo ended that today. He says NY needs ventilators from the strategic stockpile and the Feds aren’t giving him as many as they need and that NYS should take priority over other states. He criticized Trump for not ordering/forcing American companies to produce more ventilators and supplies through the DPA. Something he doesn’t need to do because some are already ramping up to do so. Does he want Trump to order Ford and GM to do what they are already doing? I mention Ford and GM specifically because those are the two companies I believe are changing assembly line structures to make ventilators, which were the item Cuomo spent most of his time talking about.

It felt like watching a horse race and see that one horse break from the pack to make his move.

  12. Cuomo is massively corrupt and has lots of vulnerabilities that Trump will attack. If Cuomo gets the nomination it will be interesting to see if he can manage much support outside of NY.

  13. “Hey fellas! What’s the big rush?”

“We’ve only got 24 hours” “Yeah!” “We’ve never been here before”

“Aaah, what could happen to ya in one day? Whaddaya think you’re gonna do?”

New York, New York, a wonderful town
The Bronx is up and the Battery’s down
The people ride in a [virus infected] hole in the ground
New York, New York! It’s a wonderful town!

  14. I’m conflicted about Gov. Cuomo’s handling of this whole thing in NYS. At least he admitted that he was aware people would lose their jobs as a result of the shutdown and that he was man enough to take responsibility for that – whatever that may mean in practice. And he does have some useful ideas, I think, in this situation. On the other hand, on a personal level, Cuomo’s long left a bad taste in my mouth.

I didn’t see this new presser of his in which he started to ramp up the rhetoric. Part of me would not too much mind if he were to become the Dems’ anointed, because on the off chance that it would get him out of NY for a while, and if he were to lose to Trump, then might return to Albany somewhat chastened, maybe even a little weakened politically… might be beneficial.

  15. There’s a reason why California and New York Democrats have been persona non grata at the Presidential level for years. One party states produce A LOT of corruption and A LOT of extreme policies/behavior/rhetoric and all of it looks really bad to the rest of the country.

    Mike

  16. How does his staff put him in front of live cameras?
    He’s a mobile disaster area.
And as much as I want the Ds to lose, lose BIG, lose irreparably YUGELY…this is beyond sad…and yep…abusive to a doddering old man.

  17. political rope a dope..
[nah… someone get the donkey to kick em in the head and fix the turnip]

  18. Here’s an overlooked gem from Randy Newman’s “Good Old Boys” album, loosely based on a true story Newman heard from a New Orleans Public Defender, in which a naked purse snatcher claimed another naked man had stolen, then given him the purse. It helps to have lived in New Orleans to parse the story.

I’m reminded of the song and Biden because of his current perplexed state and his lovable foible of swimming naked at night in front of female secret service agents guarding him.

I think Biden is “doing the best he can” and wonder if anyone will “help a naked man.”

Old lady lean against a lamppost
Starin’ down at the ground on which she stand
    She look up and scream
    For the lamplight’s beam
There stood the famous Naked Man

He say, “They found out about my sister
And kicked me out of the Navy,
They would have strung me up if they could.
I tried to explain that we were both of us lazy
And were doing the best we could.”

He faked to the left and he faked to the right
And he snatched the purse from her hand
    “Someone stop me,” he cried,
    As he faded from sight,
“Won’t nobody help a naked man?”
“Won’t nobody help a naked man?”

  19. I tried to come up with one or two word replacements that would make what he said make sense in the context of the question.

    No dice…

  20. Judging solely on the appearance of brand new video clips of Biden garbling himself yesterday, neo’s got a potential daily recurring post item extending from now until Biden finally gives up his humiliation, which, when? He can’t go on much longer this way, can he?

The Democrat legacy media itself will soon have to demure at putting Biden on their air, if only in self-preservation, to say nothing of attempting to save their Party from self-destruction.

  21. Who is advising him? Appears to be no one. Why in the world does he think it necessary to inject himself onto the stage right now? He will be the nominee, provided he’s still alive come convention time. The campaign won’t begin in earnest until Summer/Labor Day. The election is in November, ~8 months from now. This stuff that he’s doing will not win him any new votes or the election. If anything he is alienating voters in the middle.

Just clear and convincing evidence that he, and his team, is unqualified for the office.

  22. Has anyone noticed that in the past few days (since Monday), the media has started referring to it as the “new coronavirus”, especially in stories relating to celebrity infections (which are likely just cases of virtue signalling rather than true infection)? I first saw it with that insufferable Greta who claims to have it, and recently with Prince Charles.

My first thought when seeing “new coronavirus” was that there was a mutated strain they are claiming is more deadly (I saw something like that reported with Italy weeks ago), but nope, it’s just another term for the same virus. My guess is that they are trying to dupe the panic-stricken rubes into believing that now there was a “new” coronavirus (that arose in the past week), one that wasn’t a “hoax” and that would leave bodies in the street bleeding out of their eyes.

  23. I don’t believe Joe Biden will get the Dem nomination.
I’m sure the rules or something will change so that somebody else gets it.

The BIG problem the Dems have is that also do not want Sanders, the Socialist who honeymooned in the USSR, to get the nomination.

I think it would be a hoot if some Bernie Bros. started suing the DNC for illegally changing the rules / false advertising. Maybe a big Dem donor. (Just another quick very unlikely fantasy).

Really too bad Tulsi gave up.

  24. I’m thankful as hell that Tulsi gave up! Accept the fact that the media can make anyone they want to look like a genius (unless they literally cannot articulate a clear thought, which is where Biden is).

Tulsi could be made into someone who was a serious threat to Trump. And our first woman President would be as easily manipulable as our first black one was. Not what we need!

  25. “As a NYC person… you DON’T want Cuomo…
    you REALLY don’t want CUOMO”

    As a NYS person… I concur wholeheartedly

  26. The US House gaveled into session at 10:00am this morning, then gaveled out at 10:02am. They won’t be holding any votes today. Next scheduled session is 11:00am tomorrow.

    What?

  27. sdferr,

Over at Instapundit, the rumor is Nancy is going to knock the game winning pass again out of the receiver’s hands again..

  28. There was a story out that Rep. Amash hinted he wouldn’t allow a unanimous consent vote, but, about that, y’know, rumor.

Otherwise (and I’ve read the HotDweebs piece linked at Insty) I don’t see the Democrat upside, so have no idea what any more delay can get them. But then, they’ve been politically insane to my way of thinking for quite a long time now, so shrugs all around.

  29. on causing panic

Makeshift morgues with tents and refrigeration trucks is set up outside Manhattan’s Bellevue hospital in preparation for potential surge in coronavirus victims as New York City’s death toll rises to 192

Military personnel and NYC Medical Examiner’s Office employees were spotted outside Manhattan’s Bellevue Hospital on Wednesday as the makeshift morgue was set up
Huge white dome-like tents and multiple refrigeration trucks were set up as part of the makeshift facility
The coronavirus death toll in New York City has risen to 192 and there are now 17,000 confirmed cases, accounting for more than half the cases in the hardest-hit state in the nation
More than 2,800 people in the city are hospitalized because of the virus – double the figure from three days earlier – and more than 600 are being treated in intensive care

There are currently about 53,000 beds and 3,000 intensive care unit beds in the state’s hospitals. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the state could need 140,000 beds and 40,000 ICU beds to cope with the outbreak.

like newsome, i have no idea where he thinks this is going to explode from
however, the hospitals are more about politics than patients or people
scaring the bejesus out of people will net them more free money
they dont perform well, because they dont have to
they dont have to lower costs, because they do this
(which is why they are NEVER solvent, EVER)

New York state currently has a 12 percent hospitalization rate in relation to coronavirus, according to Cuomo. Cuomo said state measures to control the coronavirus appeared to be working as the rate of hospitalizations has slowed in recent days. ‘Now that is almost too good to be true,’ he said. ‘This is a very good sign and a positive sign, again not 100% sure it holds, or it’s accurate but the arrows are headed in the right direction.’

  30. Jonathan Schachtel: “New numbers on COVID-19 released in NYC, epicenter for virus in America.

Important stats you’re not seeing in media:
-New cases peaked 2 days ago
-There is no exponential growth. Not even in same universe
-Ppl w preconditions account for 95% of deaths”

    https://mobile.twitter.com/JordanSchachtel/status/1242632167999574018

Mar 25 PDF data summary NYC at link. New cases numbers down Mar. 25 (1,191), from high Mar 22 (2,649).

  31. Did Unka Joe do his TV thang today, or nah? Kinda looks like nah, as though yesterday’s disasters were quite enough for the present.

  32. I ran some numbers a moment ago for New York cases. (I started tracking the daily updates for myself this week because I wanted very much to know how the patterns around where I live are shaping up.)

Per the NY State Dept. of Health’s last update from today of positive cases, total statewide is 30,811. But only 2719 of those are upstate, so fewer than 1 in 10. (I’m counting Westchester with ‘downstate’ for this purpose.) The city of New York is by far the biggest concentration in NY State.

I mention this because it occurred to me that some perspective on the distribution of cases in NY could be helpful to the discussion. I don’t know how many deaths there have been in upstate, but anyway, when you hear talk of “New York State” as the hardest-hit of the states, that’s true mostly in the sense that greater NYC holds 90% of the cases at this point. I would ask that one bear this in mind.

The NYS DOH website that I’m following doesn’t post death numbers, so if anybody has a source for that type of data, I’d like it if you let me know. I kind of care more about cases in general than the death rate, personally, but I suppose having the mortality figures would help me contribute more to the discussion if need be.

  33. Typical of many politicians, not just Democrats.
However, they are the ones I’ve noticed most recently.
Hillary in particular was notorious for treating her flunkies like scum, and disdaining to fraternize with any hoi-polloi that hadn’t been cleared and scripted.
Obama was no great schmoozer with the plebes either.

Some have also noticed that he touches his face in this video, which is one of the no-nos during this pandemic. He does even worse during another interview, this one with CNN’s Jake Tapper. When Tapper admonishes the former vice president for coughing into his hand, rather than the crook of his arm, Biden explains that “it’s OK because” he’s “alone in his home.” Except that that’s not true: There is at least one individual manning the camera, another the sound equipment.

  34. There isn’t a still-open thread on the nutty news nabobs, so Biden is the closest I can get, but CNN has really jumped the shark. Last thing I remember, like maybe Monday, the journolistas were complaining that Trump wasn’t following guidelines in his press briefings – so he moved outside and limited the number of reporters (IIRC).
They are going to complain no matter what he does, so he might as well ignore them.

    https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2020/03/25/nuttery-cnn-political-analyst-demands-president-trump-ignore-social-distancing-tour-nation-meeting-medical-responders/

“There really has never been a time like this. The U.S. media, writ large, have dropped all pretense of journalism, or even common sense, and have gone into a phase of resistance derangement unlike any time in history.”

  35. Doddering Joe just had a Chauncey Gardener moment. Cough. Is it tapioca desert day?
