Bravo, Lindsey Graham — 26 Comments

  1. I’m under the impression that Graham, McCain and Flake were buddies who prided themselves on being the renegades of the Republican party. In Flake’s speech from the Well of the Senate a day or two ago, he talked a lot about the lack common human decency in this confirmation process.

I’m hoping Graham got to him.

  2. Perfectly said and delivered by the best and only person possible of doing so.

I’m with him 100%, though would have said it much more crassly (and ineffectively because of my tendency to profanity).

  3. Never thought I would see Lindsay Graham go for the jugular on his ‘friends’ across the aisle. If this doesn’t stiffen the spine of senators like Flake nothing will. Go Lindsay go.

  4. Well…full props for the speech.
    Now…VOTE!

Let’s get Judge Kavanaugh seated as Justice Kavanaugh, & dear Lord someone get a Roe v Wade challenge started & someone start saying “BOO!” real loudly around Ginsberg whenever she’s not looking.

We need President Trump to appoint at least one more…I want 2-3 more, but I’d be happy with one.

  5. I think that Graham’s oratory sealed the deal, as the parties to be convinced are of his like mind.

They can certainly tuck behind his draft.

Judge K did himself a good deed by expressing true outrage.

Coolness in such a circumstance does not sell.

The word is that two Democrats are going to vote for Judge K… plus Collins and Murkowski.

  6. Graham’s a very interesting guy. He’s whip smart, for one thing. Much of the time while a senator he’s been a “cross the aisle” kind of guy, but not always. He’s been much more fierce around the topic of terrorism, for example, than on a lot of other issues. But every now and then he catches fire. Today was one of those days, but it wasn’t a total surprise. When he gets outraged, look out.

He’s also very funny. I saw him in person one time during the 2016 campaign when he was still in the race for president and he was sidesplittingly funny. I had no idea till then what a sense of humor he has. I spoke to one of his aides about it and she said that he kept them in stitches.

  7. I feared the worst when Ford showed and delivered an adequate presentation. Thank God, Kavanaugh and Graham managed to let loose without melting down.

Still it comes down to polls and votes. If the RINOs are onboard now, and perhaps a few Dems in red states, I am quite curious what made the difference.

  8. I have never much cared for Graham, going so far as to call him McCain’s puppy.
I will have to reevaluate my opinion; or at least open the door to reconsidering.

I did not listen today, much to my wife’s disgust. She thinks that these are important events; while I see them as merely bad, very bad, theater. Besides, she doesn’t like to hear me curse. At her insistence, I did listen to part of Kavanaugh’s statement. It was gut wrenching.

  9. Graham articulated eloquently and forcefully what most of us on the right (outside of the Beltway) have felt for the last two weeks. He made up for much of his past RINO behavior. Not all, but most.

  10. Kavanaugh rose to the occasion and defended himself well. He got to me. Graham said what many have been thinking but no one has said — and he expressed himself forcefully, with justifiable heat. Wow.

  11. Aside from the Supreme Court — no small matter — this is quite a dodged bullet, assuming K is confirmed.

For some time now the US has been slip-sliding-away to Banana Republic status, mostly at the hands of Democrats. If this ultra-vicious scam attack on Kavanaugh works, it’s a huge step downward to some kind of might-makes-right fascism.

    Fingers crossed.

  12. I have commented that “the left in America is abnormally evil, not in a million years I would do to someone who might have killed my entire family what the democrats are doing to the republicans” graham pretty much said something to the effect today in his speech.

  13. Graham’s speech was something the Senate Judiciary Committee had never heard before. It bears a resemblance to Trump’s speeches. Maybe the American people have grown tired of polished, practiced, mellifluous — but false — oration, and prefer hearing true words, spoken from a man’s heart.

  14. And, of course, they’ve just doxxed 3 GOP Senators: Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and both Mike Lee and Orrin Hatch of Utah all had their home addresses posted online. On their Wikipedia pages, no less.

The news story I read (Washington Examiner; linked from Instapundit) claims it was done by someone using a computer in a House of Representatives office. I hope that the perp wasn’t merely being sophisticated and faking the origin of the packets so that it looked like it was from a Rep’s office. I hope it means they weren’t sophisticated, and the investigators know who it was, and they’re going to track down the perp and put ’em away for a little while.

I am praying hard for the country, tonight. Under the circumstances, that seems a more positive and helpful thing to be doing, than griping about the Dems’ lack of principles, mourning the Republic, and other similarly negative uses of my time. (And I’ve done more than enough of those things, already.)

Good night and God bless, to everyone here.

  15. Capn Rusty:

I’ve read that over the last year or so Graham and Trump have gotten friendly. Maybe that’s why some of Trump’s straight talking style has rubbed off on Graham. Combined with Graham’s polish and lawyerly skills, it’s pretty darn good. I also think that the Kavanaugh attacks have shocked Graham to his core. He’s spent his life being collegial, and he finds it hard to believe how vicious the Democrats have become on the personal level.

I saw him being interviewed tonight, and he made it clear that political fights, and even dirty political fights, he can handle. But this was an attempt to destroy a good person for political ends. The personal ruthlessness of the Democrats got to him.

  16. A few days ago I watched Judge Kavanaugh interviewed on Fox News He was not impressive. Today I watched him become a man in full. He was open, courageous, deeply angry, and yet compassionate. No matter what happens going forward (I believe he will be confirmed), this is a man with a family that will persevere and continue to be fine citizens – the kind that most of us want to be. I am encouraged by his willingness to fight for his honor and by President Trump’s steadfastness in standing with him.

Senator Graham also grew in stature today. He once was a middle of the road, reach across the aisle sort of guy. The cunning plans of the Dems have become clear to him and he has joined the fight alongside the President. I wish him well and am encouraged that other Republicans will begin to join up.

Today was a big day in American politics. I think we can take heart that we are trying to pull back from full Banana Republic status.

  17. “I intend to vote for you, and I hope that everyone who is fair-minded, will.”

Home run finish to a great few minutes. All the Reps will vote yes; perhaps more than a few Dems.

Kavanaugh is possibly the most saintly nominee that Trump could have chosen, moreso even than Gorsuch (who was also pretty clean, tho).

Part of the purpose of creating a Hellish process, is to keep decent Reps away from accepting a nomination.

  18. John Guilfoyle,
I hope we don’t start with Roe vs Wade. I would rather see SCOTUS send messages to lower courts that their ruling will be held to constitutional standards. It might improve our legal system at a grass roots level. Let Roe come when it comes, and let rulings be based on the law.

Also, Graham was great, and I loved all the attacks on DiFi. At some point, I hope someone asks her what the Chinese spy might have leaked.

  19. Neo,

Your blog has “error establishing database connection” repeatedly today. I was lucky to get a post in but it took about 25 refreshes to get your blog up.

    Anonymous is not happy. LOL.

  20. I’m also getting database error messages.

Whoever thought it would be Lindsey Graham who would become the real lion of the Senate?
