Madonna… — 14 Comments

  1. ¯\_(?)_/¯

I just beta tested this for a shrug emoji but I get a question mark, neo. This is the kind of stuff that drives developers crazy, btw. When it comes to Madonna, the question mark works as well. I never got it, not then, not now.

  2. Madonna’s chief talent has been milking the “outrage” of normal society for well on 30 years past her expiration date as an “artist.”

  3. When she gets as old say Mick, Pete, or Eric (75, 73, 73)…and can fill a stadium or display a modicum of talent, then I’ll pay attention. Other than that…whatever.

I’m happy for her. “Honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay” and all that, but let’s see how she’s going in another decade and a half.

  4. Imagine just for the heck of it that there were a God, and that that God was righteous, holy, and just.

Then imagine what self-generated fate lay in store for an “artist” who spent her life gleefully portraying a secular version of the Whore of Babylon.

You needn’t even go so far as that. Just imagine for a moment that there is something more to life than being a strutting, vainglorious, bag of appetite.

Madonna: What a living, breathing, human sewer.

  5. The old, old question of theodicy, why does God allow such evil and tragedy in the world?

  6. France24?

She struggled early in her career when critics panned her screechy soprano voice with no tonal range. Her next several songs featured a mostly lower alto range. So there!

She dabbled with film acting, as herself, or as a weird or icon figure; all rather emotionless, but apropos within the plot. Then she and her then husband Guy Ritchie did Swept Away which mostly killed her film career. Later she appeared in the Bond film Die Another Day, without credit.

And the article claims that older women never have affairs with younger men in the cinema? Is the author stuck in 1970? Jacqueline Bisset played such an older woman in at least two films that I’ve seen. And the TV show Cougar Town ran 6 seasons. Haven’t seen any it.

Madonna gets an A+ for effort, and not much else. But it is amazing what effort can get you.

  7. Great 80s dance music. Not much otherwise.

When she was married to Guy Ritchie, the film director, the UK press referred to her as “Madge,” which annoyed her terribly.

  8. It is a big world. If you carve out even a very small niche in it, it can be enough to support a lavish lifestyle.

No one hears much about Jimmy Buffet anymore, but he is still doing concerts for his loyal “Parrot Heads”. I recently read an article about Petula Clark. She is still touring and performing and she is 85!

  9. No one hears much about Jimmy Buffet anymore, but he is still doing concerts for his loyal “Parrot Heads”.

You got a problem with that?

  10. Good for her. I don’t listen to her music, but I appreciate that she has made a good career for herself.

I watched Martha Graham dance at age 73. Admittedly, she mostly posed with a bit of subtle help from her dance company, but she made the effort.
