Another horrific school shooting — 24 Comments

  1. Reaction one:

Sign on the Property Line: “THIS IS A GUN FREE ZONE.”

Sign about ten yards beyond the property line: “REALLY, WE’RE NOT KIDDING, THIS IS A GUN FREE ZONE.”

    Reaction two:

“We need to take every means of gun death off the planet right now today and if you don’t agree we will send out armed guards over to shoot you in the head and take your gun from your cold dead hands. And Trump is Hitler.+

  2. And no sooner do I look than….

“The weapons policy of Santa Fe High School in Texas makes clear that no firearms, imitation firearms, BB guns, or ammunition is allowed on campus.

“The Substitute Teacher Handbook says, “Employees, visitors, and students, including those with a license to carry a handgun, are prohibited from bringing firearms, illegal knives, or other weapons onto school premises or any grounds or building where a school-sponsored activity takes place.”

  3. Don’t make these crazies famous! Some of them want to outdo the previous shooters, and the media gives them what they want. Speak of them only in generic terms, no name, no photos. I’m in Ohio, knowing the perps name or seeing his image has no news value except maybe to the locals. I know, this would take discipline for the media, but it is doable.

Bless all the victims, and their loved ones, wrap your arms around the survivors.

  4. We have a trenchcoat, shotgun, bombs in the school, and 3 suspects with at least two detained at the site. Shades of Columbine.

Fox stated that the shooter made claims that his intent was to commit suicide, but chickened out.

There were two SRO’s at Santa Fe High who were heroic and probably saved lives. But those SRO’s have targets painted on them, in effect. By contrast, check out this hero mom who was at a school when a robber discharged a handgun. Being an off duty cop, her element of surprise was such that her gun was about a foot from the perp when she pulled the trigger.

  5. Why are there fire alarms at these schools ? There are more shootings than fires. Can’t someone figure out how to report fires that will not send the victims to the perp this way.
Seems most buildings are fireproof now too. Though I suppose the gunman can come in with gas and a match.
So sorry kids & their families.

  6. expat, I’m not sure Mr. French has the whole explanation, but I do think the thesis is probably one of the main factors.

Not “THE” cause, but a huge factor enabling and encouraging it.

    Thanks for the link. :<)

  7. The poor sorry young males are sending a message and unfortunatly using a gun plays right into their desire to show the world their misery. We need to let them know there is a possibility for a good decent future. Easier said than done I know.

  8. Used to be everybody knew an honorable man would not do this, would die to prevent it.
But “honor” and men and aspiring men have been separated and laughed at.

  9. GB, as you can see, the Deep State is not going to stop. So even if the US absorbed millions of casualties in civil war 1, Americans are not nearly as capable of doing so before CW2 starts.

Fox stated that the shooter made claims that his intent was to commit suicide, but chickened out.

Copycat crime vs the real indoctrinated assassins that have no hesitation.

If 100,000 casualties won’t make Americans bend their knee to the DS and disarm, 1 million will do the trick. I am sure people are hoping that Trum will change things and save them. Trusting in humans was the first big mistake and maybe the last.

  10. If initial reports are true, the sicko did not have have a “assault rifle with the thing that goes up”. This terrible incident does not promote that particular narrative, so I give it less than 3 days in the media circus.

  11. expat,

20 years ago, I read an article in which a sociologist stated that we were now raising generations of “moral savages”…

    Ymar @7:16,

    ???

Prosecute enough of them and they’ll stop. These are not soldiers prepared to die on the field of battle. These are ideological thugs hiding behind a badge.

BTW, there were not “millions of casualties in civil war 1”

As for trusting other people, just as many are worthy of trust as are unworthy of trust. Humanity contains both light and dark.

    parker,

Reportedly he used his father’s shotgun and .38 revolver. But they won’t let the fact that an “assault” rifle wasn’t used get in the way. Nor will they report that it happened in another gun free zone.

  12. What does the media tell young boys about manhood, duty, honor, country? What are they told about overcoming adversity, having patience, waiting for the right young woman to marry? How is history explained to them about their ancestors coming to a new land, freedom, new beginnings, the ability to choose your own faith?

The obligations of family, fatherhood, protecting those who are weaker? Working, working, and working some more to feed your family and have some sort of home to raise them in. Loving each and every person in your family, grand parents, sisters, brothers, cousins and willing to do anything to protect those to whom you belong and those who belong to you.

Identity with country, state, county, town and family and the obligation to all of them. Education has stripped all of that away and as you sow, so you shall reap, these horrible disillusioned young men might be the creation the enlightened thinking of those who know better than us.

The guns are tools, only tools and if they were gone then they would use knives and trucks all the while the criminal element would have a lot more fun being the only ones with guns. There has never, ever been another nation like the United States where we are free people with God given rights, unlike the rest of the world we will hold on to our God and our Guns and heaven help us all if it comes to that. Those who disagree are trying to use these terrible events to drive a wedge between us and that is not a good thing.

Prayers and blessing to those families whose children went to school this morning looking forward to their summer break and now their lives are over. This is indeed a tragedy.

  13. Prosecute enough of them and they’ll stop.

Prosecute the Federal Reserve? You and the entirety of your elected government, won’t do that.

You don’t even see the Federal Reserve, which is not owned by you, the feds, or your citizen fellows, as a threat.

Do you really think you can fight the Deep State with this level of tactical knowledge…

BTW, there were not “millions of casualties in civil war 1”

This goes back to a previous point you made that CW1 absorbed a lot of casualties, to counter my point that the DS will inflict millions of casualties to make America bend in submission. That supports my point, of course.

  14. https://www.battlefields.org/learn/articles/civil-war-casualties

Also you should check the difference between fatalities and casualties. Of course I did and made sure to write casualties, not fatalities.

WAR CASUALTIES. The term “war casualty” applies to any person who is lost to a military unit by having died of wounds or disease, having received wounds, or having been injured but not mortally.

There were an estimated 1.5 million casualties reported during the Civil War.

I don’t always look up data using human sources. I use the Holy Spirit as my internet a lot of times more than the internet. The funny thing, it is always accurate. Not necessarily precisely accurate, but then again those are only the statistics “reported” and gathered by humans, to the limit of our knowledge.

  15. OldTexan at 854pm — correction: . . .”they do use knives and trucks and pipe bombs. . .

  16. GB,

The first step is too demonize a particular subset of firearms, “assault rifles with the thing that goes up” is that step. They have to keep hammering away on that narrative. That, if successful leads to banning ‘assault’ rifles such as the Ruger Mini-14, the AK47, the SKS, etc. From there it goes to any semiautomatic firearm. Next, ‘sinister’ bolt action rifle that are potential sniper rifles. Last they come for revovlers and any shotgun. Of any sort.

Then the demonization of BB and pellet guns, and those unwarranted ‘assault’ knives. Before too long hammers and rocks are on the chopping block. I grok what you say, but it goes much deeper. The ultimate goal is to make self defense illegal. That will include self defense with fists, feet, and elbows. Head butts too.

  17. Ymar,

Again, ??? Evidently you have me confused with someone else. I never made a previous point that CW1 absorbed a lot of casualties. My comment above is the first one I made on this thread. Or are you referring to a comment made some time ago? If so, a bit of context would be helpful.

Oh, I see the Federal Reserve as a threat all right. But to America’s financial solvency and sovereignty. I just have yet to see credible evidence that they’re in control of the Deep State. Nor does it fit the psychological profile of a banker. Bankers may act as advisers but they lack the ideological fanaticism of the revolutionary. Their motivation is money and status. Not power and control. Which is what motivates the people pulling the strings.

Millions is plural, since 1.5 million is short 500,000… a not insignificant number… your assertion is erroneous. Are you a big enough man to admit it?

Glad to hear you have a direct line to God. It must bring you great comfort. No wonder you’re so certain of your infallibility.

  18. YS,

I too see the Jekyll Island cabal as a grand scam to control the currency/economy. That does not lead me to follow the belief that the “holy spirits” should be my guiding light. I am an agnostic, willing to admit I am unable, thus mortal, to pass judgment on what is ‘God’ and what is not God.

Is it not true that pride comes before a fall? Examine the mote in your eye.

  19. OldTexan-So true. Victor Frankl wrote Man’s Search for Meaning in post-WWII Europe, having treated over 60,000 people for depression. Here is a man who survived a Nazi death camp, the loss of his wife and yet in the aftermath was able to help so many others, and left a short book with an important message. Your point about the essence of manhood being undermined in our culture is absolutely true. And the fabric of our culture is fraying before our eyes. These young men seeking notoriety in such an evil manner is only one effect.

  20. The guy’s father must (IMHO) assume the responsibility because the guns used belonged to him. Why weren’t they securely locked up?

His parents must have been on another planet. Why didn’t they notice behavior changes in their son?

What about the bombs that the son “planted”? How do you hide a number of pressure cookers in the house? And the items needed to create these bombs.

Thank goodness that none of them were detonated!

  21. Or are you referring to a comment made some time ago? If so, a bit of context would be helpful.

So you’ve forgotten the last time we were talking about the federal reserve… okay.

Nor does it fit the psychological profile of a banker.

Is that what people think the Federal Reserve is, a bunch of bankers. They issue your currency. Is that the power of a bank? Heh. People must need some basic economic and government help here.

The power to issue and back or not back currencies, is a power usually held in reserve by a State, Kingdom, Empire, or nation.

    The Deep State.

I am sure people thought the FBI, friendly rangers, were just loyal patriotic government bureaucrats too a few years ago.

The world doesn’t change but people’s perception of it changes.

Millions is plural, since 1.5 million is short 500,000… a not insignificant number… your assertion is erroneous. Are you a big enough man to admit it?

I said there were millions of casualties in civil war 1. The reported numbers do not prove or disprove above 2 million. It gives a least number figure. If the subject was fatalities, then it would be hard to get the number above 1 million.

It is similar to the Holocaust numbers. It goes up as time goes up. I seem to recall it is around 6 million now a days.

Glad to hear you have a direct line to God. It must bring you great comfort. No wonder you’re so certain of your infallibility.

If I write or read something wrong, I get a notice. For example, in the previous threads about the Israelite history, I wrote that the Levites didn’t come back from Babylon. A few minutes later I got the feeling I should read up on a certain topic, and low and behold it says Jeroboam’s policies made Levites leave for Judah. If that is the case, then it means my previous point needed to be corrected, to allow for the possibility of Levites coming back from Babylonian captivity. These types of corrections and notices happen all the time to me. It’s not something people notice, for the most part.

Btw, the Holy Spirit is not what you call “God”, plural or singular. If you do not have the aid of the Holy Spirit, GB, then you should use the internet, like so:

noun, plural millions (as after a numeral) million.
    1.
a cardinal number, a thousand times one thousand.
    2.
a symbol for this number, as 1,000,000 or MÌ….
    3.
millions, a number between 1,000,000 and 999,999,999, as in referring to an amount of money:
His fortune was in the millions of dollars.
    4.
the amount of a thousand thousand units of money, as pounds, dollars, or francs:
The three Dutch paintings fetched a million.
    5.
a very great number of times:
    Thanks a million.
    6.
the million(s) the mass of the common people; the multitude:
    poetry for the millions.
    adjective
    7.
amounting to one million in number.
    8.
amounting to a very great number:
    a million things to do.

So no, “millions” do not always mean more than 2 million. You got your contextual connotations mixed up because the word is both singular and plural. For indeterminate numbers above a million, millions is used often.

That does not lead me to follow the belief that the “holy spirits” should be my guiding light.

First you have to know whether a spirit exists or not.

Is it not true that pride comes before a fall?

You are free to believe me or not. The pride would be you acting like you know me better than I know myself. That is where the pride would be.

I never said the holy spirit should be your guiding light, make sure you don’t misinterpret my words since they are Very Specific. How can something that to you does not exist, be the same as a guide? That’s not how it works.

I am an agnostic, willing to admit I am unable, thus mortal, to pass judgment on what is ‘God’ and what is not God.

Since I am not an agnostic or Deist, I can and will pass judgment on what is true or not. That is my purview, which you cannot interfere with even if you wanted to.

Do agnostics these days have enough pride in their position that they think everybody else who does not adopt the same position have some kind of “mote in their eye”, is that how it works now.

  22. Ymar has a mind as big as a planet but he still stoops to use the interwebs. We are so blessed to have such a font of wisdom here to help us.
