Veterans Day — 5 Comments

  1. Thank you to all neo-neocon folks who served and survived.

There will never be an end to war. It is a part of our nature. All we can ask for are periods of (relative) peace.

  2. What was the Great War, 1914-1918, really like? Read Martin Middleton’s horrific book, “First Day on the Somme: 1 July 1916″. Want some more breathtaking muddy Hell? Take a bumpy ride through Leon Wolff’s classic,”In Flanders Fields: Passchendaele 1917”. Either will leave you stunned and gasping.

British casualties on July 1, 1916 at the Somme: 20K-dead. 35K-wounded. ONE Day!!

  3. Parker.

To be a nitpicker, I don’t think asking will get it.

John Keegan’s history of WW I is excellent.

  4. And I just read that Nov.11 is the feast of St. Martin of Tours, a patron saint of France and also of soldiers. So, nice timing.
