  1. Good on her. She has enough integrity and self-awareness not to embarrass herself (and profession) over this. Still a pretty big lib, though. This next month might be interesting watching if and when the media turns on Obama.

  2. I don’t have time to find the link now, but she was also quite outraged by the State Department revelations yesterday regarding the attack on the Libyan consulate. She was angry that Fox News was not included in State’s conference call and even angrier about UN Ambassador Rice’s multiple claims in the following days that the attack was a spontaneous demonstration that got out of control. She was absolutely furious, steaming mad. A change could be coming there.

  3. She’s always been slightly more objective and reasonable than most libs. Nowadays, she seems even more willing to criticize Obama and the administration.

I expect we’ll start to hear from her and other fairly open minded libs that they yearn for the good ole days progressive Democrats like FDR, Truman, JFK, LBJ.Tip O’Neil, Dirkson…even Clinton.

  4. Maybe she and Lara Logan should form a team. Kudos to Logan for realizing the truth behind her horrifying experience instead of retreating into denial, which would be natural; her strength of character is truly amazing.

  5. I’ve never been a fan of calls to cut PBS funding, simply because the political capital required to win that argument was enormous versus the reward. If there were ever a time when the political optics favored a call for cuts, however, it is now.

This Big Bird thing is so easily batted down that I’m almost hoping the Obama campaign continues to press the case. All Romney would have to say would be something like:

“Big Bird makes tens of millions of dollars a year. He’ll still be here even if we cut funding. I’m not going to borrow money from China, and mortgage away your child’s future, to support a multi-millionaire. That’s nothing more than crony capitalism.”

    Or …

“Big Bird makes tens of millions of dollars every year. He doesn’t need our help. He’ll be just fine. But this is the difference between President Obama and me. I’m going to spend all my time and energy focusing on creating millions of jobs and bringing down the deficit. President Obama wants to focus on giving away your hard-earned tax dollars to Big Bird, who is part of the one percent.”

  6. Agree with that too. She’s consistently honest and she’s always a patriot first. One of the rare democrat pundits who makes a point without name calling, condescention, etc. Compare her with some of the other left wing contributors on Fox, (for example Bob Beckel) and she stands out head and shoulders above them as a civil and decent commentator. I always enjoy hearing her perspective, even if I don’t agree with it.

  7. texexec @2:04,

Dirksen was a Republican Senator from Illinois and, I believe, it was his seat that was occupied dby Obama when he was senator.

  8. Southpaw,

I agree. She is more perceptive that Beckel, Juan Williams and Alam Colmes combined and stands in the company of people like Camille Paglia and Mickey Kaus. Like you, I listen to them carefully because they work very assiduously to support their theories with facts. I don’t beleive they they’re always successful, but when compared with a Nancy Pelosi, Colmes or Beckel there is simply no contest.

  9. @texexec: Sen. Everett Dirksen was a Republican from Illinois, not a Democrat. He was definitely of the moderate persuasion, however, and quite willing to reach across the aisle.

  10. “Dirksen was a Republican Senator from Illinois and, I believe, it was his seat that was occupied dby Obama when he was senator.”

“@texexec: Sen. Everett Dirksen was a Republican from Illinois, not a Democrat. He was definitely of the moderate persuasion, however, and quite willing to reach across the aisle.”

T and waltj…y’all are absolutely right and to make matters worse about my mistake, I actually saw Dirkson speaking on the Senate floor…long time ago.

I guess it was his willingness to work with Democrats across the aisle that got my aging brain confused.

  11. Senator Everett Dirksen, who famously quipped that “a few billion here, and a few billion there, and pretty soon you’re talking about real money” is probably going gyroscopic in his grave right now.
