On February 2nd… — 5 Comments

  1. This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather.

That’s the 2 Feb Davis’s movie tradition too!

There was a GREAT review of Ground Hog Day (as a conservative movie) by Jonah Goldberg of NRO several years back. Read it; I’m sure you’ll enjoy JG’s writing, and it adds to the zest of watching the movie itself.

  2. GHD is one of my all time favorite comedies. Thanks for the reminder; I’ll click it into my instant que at netflicks.

  3. Mr Whatsit and I find that we can watch this again and again and enjoy it every time. But now that I think about it, to watch over and over and over again as Bill Murray lives through the same day over and over and over again is something of a hall of mirrors. Yikes.

  4. I’d like to point out that the movie was not shot in Punxsatwaney, Pa but Woodstock, Illinois. I was living in Woodstock while it was being filmed and met my future husband – who lived in Philadelphia – while I was living there.

He flew out and we toured the town square where most of the scenes were shot. The movie – and the day – has become part of our legend. We were married on Groundhog Day in 2002 – that was 02/02/02. Needless to say, I have a husband who never forgets his anniversary. All of our many friends and family who call us on Groundhog Day help with jogging his memory!
