Forgive me, but… — 38 Comments

  1. Hollywood decadence knows no bounds for the Left’s principle operating procedure is entropy and the worship of death.

  2. Okay, I have to say it, have to….and forgive me for being petty and shallow in advance…but why, why with those thighs!? Good heavens.

  3. Dustoffmom: well, sometimes in the mirror at home things look a lot different than in the harsh light of day with a photographer who’s photographing from slightly below.

At least, that’s giving it the best spin. Maybe she’s just too far gone to care.

Not that her thighs are so very awful, if she wore some flattering clothing. This outfit would not flatter anyone.

  4. Don’t hate me, I’m just a messenger. But considering modern fashion? I would say she has a leg up doing it herself. Urhm, in more ways then one, let me tell you.

As for the guy? When you have it all, as a woman, who needs a real man when a clown is much more controllable? Too, no real man would have a thing to do with such a high cost women, even if she can pay her own way. Eventually she will eat all she has and want more than even Gates could afford her, and be a mess while doing it.

  5. Another product of Disney’s child star machine. Contemporaries include Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, and later, Miley Cyrus. These poor girls are sexualized at a young age and have nowhere to go by their mid 20’s, so they just keep ‘pushing the envelope’ – and end up looking like drag queen versions of what they once were.

  6. It’s hard to believe the woman in that photo is the same woman who performed “Lady Marmalade” in Moulin Rouge. Man, was she sexy. A body any woman would die for (with almost no clothes) and a set of pipes Aretha, Ella, or Etta could admire.

Then a couple of years after Moulin Rouge she wanted to show she wasn’t all about R&B/jazz -so she did a really upbeat tune called “Candyman” with a retro big band/swing orchestra . Again, she’s very sexy and provocative in the video and her amazing voice does not disappont. Here’s “Candyman”:

I’ve been a big fan of hers since Moulin Rouge – or for about 10 years. The photo neo-neocon linked to in this post is hard to look at. I can’t help but think she’s just letting herself go and this could be the beginning of her decline. That would be sad. Her talent is just too special for her to be a washed up has been already.

  7. Forever young doesn’t last. She… They are rebels with a cause and without a clue. As they age, they will live to regret their impetuous youth.

On the other hand, they are also likely struggling to retain an appeal to their preferred demographic. The market can be harsh. The adolescent market s fickle and cruel.

  8. We’re talking culture, good (discriminating!) taste, and personal responsibility here. All gone, flushed, over the last 50 years. I don’t want to upstage Artfldgr, but that’s what’s lacking. Used to be called breeding, class.
All that’s missing is tatts, piercings, and melanin. If those were present, no one would think twice. The new standard.

  9. That guy fits the mold of a hipster. He’s trying to tell us that he doesn’t fit into the mold – maaaannnnnn.

  10. You can’t buy taste.

The individual pieces probably looked good on the rack, and/or looked nice on someone else. She put the pieces together, but they weren’t from the same puzzle.

You can buy a stylist and a wardrobe consultant. This is what you look like on their night off.

As to the dude, he’s with Christina Aguilera. That’s trump in his world.

  11. Scott: depends what you mean by letting herself go. She apparently has substance abuse problems (which is definitely letting yourself go, although maybe that’s been true of her for a long time, even when she was thin), and was divorced just a few months ago. Her weight gain seems to have followed on that. Remember also that she’s 31 now and not 20 anymore, as in the “Moulin Rouge” video, and it gets harder and harder and harder for most women to maintain slender figures as they get older, unless they’re in the small percentage that are naturally built that way. Apparently Christina is not, and she may just be tired of starving herself. Plus, she had a baby a few years ago, which makes staying slim afterward even harder for most women.

I don’t fault her for the weight gain. What I fault her for is abominable taste. My guess, though, is that even when she was thin she had dreadful taste; it just didn’t look as dreadful. When you’re a bit plumper there are fewer degrees of freedom.

  12. It makes you look back fondly on the days when Chanel-type suits were a kind of rite of passage for girls. Does anyone remember Villager outfits?

  13. Why does someone who is 31 y.o. look as though she is in her early 40s? Her use by date is near.

  14. expat: ah, yes!

I never looked good in them, though; I was always too exotic and ethnic-looking. But I wore them in a vain attempt at camouflage and blending in when I lived in various parts of the midwest for a while. Then I gave up on them.

But those Breck-girl types—they looked quite good in them.

    Take a look.

  15. expat, I do! My petite, dignified grandmother, born in 1903, looked so trim and elegant in her Villager outfits, though on me they looked like costumes (I am sad to say that I inherited neither the petiteness nor the elegance.) I guess the modern equivalent is Talbot’s, which my grandmother would surely wear if she were still here to go shopping with me, which I wish she were.

  16. Michael F:

OMG. You should have included vanderleun’s warning: “That which has been seen cannot be unseen.”

  17. I am a cultural dinosaur and admit it. I’ve never understood why people who have the ability to do otherwise choose to look as though they do their shopping in a ghetto second-hand shop.

  18. Are you sure that the woman in the picture is really Christina Aguilerra?

Man, she is looking like some frumpy, pudgy housefrau who just won some awful clothes in some radio contest or (for those of you in the older set) “Queen For A Day”, and is stepping out with the scruffy D.J.

  19. N-Neo: Is it possible that her fashion consultant is the, like, dude, like escorting her down the stairs? Just like wondering.

  20. “Queen For A Day,” “Queen For A Day,” boy, that conjures up a whole different–I am tempted to say “antique”–era and mindset.

  21. Doofus is wearing spit-shined Corcoran Jump boots, de rigeur among paratroopers and line officers back in the day. Better ankle support than the issue boots, but you had to buy them. You broke them in with a mixture of blood and pus and the resulting scar across the front of the ankle was called a “corcoran bite”. Mine lasted for some years when stressed by nothing more than penny loafers.
The cap of the boot is pretty tough. Means doofus had to cut it out to let his toe through.
It’s practically a sacrilege. I guess I can console myself that the clown doesn’t know any better. If he runs into an ex Airborne type, he might find himself put some additional knowledge.

  22. This article about the death of “pretty” does a great job of explaining how that outfit happened, and why she’s ended up w/that exposed-toe dude:

“Young women today do not seem to aspire to pretty, they prefer to be regarded as hot. Hotness is something altogether different. When women want to be hot instead of pretty, they must view themselves in a certain way and consequently men view them differently as well.

As I said, pretty inspires men’s nobler instincts to protect and defend. Pretty is cherished. Hotness, on the other hand, is a commodity. Its value is temporary and must be used. It is a consumable.”

  23. She is liberated from the oppressive males that would oppress her sexually, and somehow prevent her sexualized self to flower into the eqal of Plato or Einmstein calculating the spheres and promoting socialism to children. Just check out another liberated woman from the View (whoopie) who says north korea would be wonderful and communism great (see video online) to all her conciousness raised followers (unopposed by that silent army of invisable and never present women people mention). P.S the “male gaze” is violent and oppressive so i guess only gay men, lesbians, and women can look at her. (These points all from “womens studies”)

  24. Don Carlos
And who flushed them to be free and live soviet legalities pretending that this is what artist elite driven communism is all about? Who decided to ignore biology and marginalize mates, family and progeny to express their freedom from the fantasy that men told them how to dress ( even here the only oppressors of women dressing is other women who are not liberated enough to express their inner whores of babylon. Be glad she influences millions to vote for Obama, no?)

  25. The easiest and truest answer is that she was selected by backers for lack of boundaries and to corrupt kids causing family strife and toxic relations moving the bar lower and breaking down the health of suchM. She knows if she was acting like a good role model they would drop her for another toxic selection from a huge line of them!! U should read those social engineering papers on polymorphous perversion and the idea of having to tear things down to create a funementally changed society. Did and do you really think that feminism from an ideology built on lies and mass control and states ddestruction as its goal to be truthful as to outcomes that contradict the stated goals from the leaders to their own, which is different than the message portrayed to the new age women? Better take a look at history where this was done before to see how this story ends!! (Hint genocide and other utopian things. But dont worry, experience is to be ignored in favor of the diktat from leadders. Just note that this is opart of a process of which u can read how it works and removed freedom. At least till a signing statement forces it to be deleated)

  26. Hope her pipes are still tip top, or she can actually act because, if not, she has nothing to fall back on.

Analogous to football and other sports–when players “got game” things are great, but when its over, if they don’t have another talent or an actual education to fall back on, then things can turn out very badly–especially if they have not been careful with their money.

  27. “If a woman’s got a lot of money and can wear almost anything she wants, why oh why would it be this?”

Neo, I think the key phrase is “a lot of money.” When I was a teenager (’80s), label-conscious teens were being mocked for paying a lot of money for a regular-quality shirt just because it had an alligator or a polo player stitched on it. The debate seemed to be about quality versus label, and the label generally lost. Even the “grunge” look centered on clothes that held up well, like flannel shirts and jeans.

Now the cost seems part of what makes something “fashionable.” Look at Coach purses, for example. They went from classic styles with modest labels to garish colors and brandmarks big enough to be seen down the street.

Christina’s red-soled high heels are probably Christian Louboutin shoes, incredibly expensive and therefore fashionable. No doubt the big shirt/dress (reminiscent of Madonna circa 1984) is by a designer of note.

The most ridiculous part is that many of the so-called designers merely copy; e.g. Mrs. Obama’s expensive high-top tennis shoes cost over $700 because they were “created” by a French designer, but they were knock-offs of the oh-so-cheap American “camp” style. You know the kind: Kids took summer arts-and-crafts classes in which they used dye, beads, and fabric paint to personalize inexpensive white shoes that they wore all summer and tossed at the end of the year.
