DSK criminal case to be dropped
The rape case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn has been dropped by the DA’s office.
Whether the sex (in the Clintonian sense) that undoubtedly occurred between DSK and Nafissatou Diallo was consensual (he says) or rape (she says) rests almost entirely on their dueling narratives. Bus Diallo has impeached herself as a witness due to a pattern of previous lying. The fact that one of her lies—which she told to gain asylum in this country—was a convincing (though fictitious) tale of a gang rape did nothing to help her cause.
In short, the prosecution lost faith in her veracity, and in her ability to convey it to a jury and convince them of DSK’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
That leaves us with the unanswered question of what really happened in that room; we may never know. But DSK may get his day in court after all—in France:
A writer, Tristane Banon, claims he attempted to rape her in 2003. French prosecutors are investigating the charge.
As for Diallo, her civil suit against DSK remains. Her reputation, on the other hand, does not.
I think he did it. It fits too closely with the “Lords” and “Nobles” free-handed dealing with wenches and maids for centuries in Europe. But you can’t convict someone on such history, even if it does dovetail with the particular man.
I am wondering, if it was consensual, how exactly did that happen? Was there an offer and then money or something other exchanged for the sex? Or did she agree for merely the pleasure of the encounter? Or for a chance to snare him?
As to Diallo’s ability to recount fiction as fact, such a phenomenon has other explanations than she is merely a liar. Again, however, such evidence is not likely to produce “beyond a reasonable doubt.”
The civil suit Diallo filed has been called “meritless” by DSK’s attorneys. I suppose, then, there will be no settlement.
The reported condition of the $3000.00 a night Hotel room made me wonder just what DSK was up to.

Strauss-Kahn criminal sexual assault case dropped
A New York judge dropped all criminal sexual assault charges against former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn on Tuesday, leaving him free to return to France and rebuild a shattered career.

“Men who are unjustly accused of rape can sometime gain from the experience,” — Catherine Comins, Vassar College Assistant Dean of Student Life in Time.
Looks like the case in France will go the same way as the Diallo one, mainly because the statute of limitations means the charge would have to be attempted rape – hard to make stick – rather than sexual harassment.
A knowledgeable friend of mine here in Normandy says he’s known to be very aggressive sexually, but will probably be ‘let off’ in time, and resume his career to some extent. My friend is appalled by the dropping of the case.
I have to say too that though my feeling is he is guilty, I agree with Artfldgr that many false rape accusations are made, and men often are ruined professionally as a result. Just not when they’re as powerful as Strauss Khan. It’s an ugly world sometimes.
When my wife for he first time has seen the accuser on TV, she said: This women lies. Look, how strongly built she is. Such wide shoulders, these biceps, height, athletic type overall constitution. Well trained and for most of her life doing hard physical work. And we are supposed to believe that she was subdued by a 70+ ears old banker, a head lower than she, who never did any work harder than shifting papers?
