Reports of Mark Twain’s death… — 7 Comments

  1. I wonder if it will turn out to have been worth waiting 100 years for. Doubtless there will be some sharp comments about a few people, but they too will have been long dead and we’ll scratch our collective head and wonder who cares about his grip with an ex lover or a cruel banker. I think 30 to 50 years would have been a better time line. Of course Twain could not have known that we live in times when a jilted lover can publish memoirs filled with vitriol in a matter of weeks. 2. Since this is being edited at UC Berkeley, I would prefer to read scans of the pages; at least, have them available. I do not trust the PC crew there.

  3. Wow, it will be a major time capsule. Ozyripus is right (pun intended), UC Berkeley can’t be trusted, and why should they be doing anything other than to present it in its original state, completely unedited, it’s not like it was written in a language other than english, after all. Mr. Clemens must be rolling over in his grave, just think(ing) about it…

  4. I have always loved Twain. And he always hated editiors, which will no doubt impact poorly on his current editiors. I just hope they don’t butcher the thing.
