Sanity Squad tonight — 7 Comments

  1. Let me tell you what people will ban. The Left will ban human nature in the end. And you know how that will work.

Sanity got the logical conclusion. It is not the guns and all the implements that the Left wants to band, what the Left wants to band is human nature, specifically human free will. If people could not choose to do violence… then the Left’s idea of forcibly creating a community of pliant and cooperative members would become a reality, Neo.

  2. Guns make violence easier for incompetent criminals and killers.

Thugs have always had the advantage in a fight against their target, Neo. That problem is the source, of course.

Gun control is the ability of people with power to exert their power. They cannot exert their bullying on Iran, for example.

Guns actually made the function of feudalism and aristocracy obsolete. Therefore it is natural for the Left to try to ban the peasants from being armed. So why did peasants need the aristocracy for protection if the peasants could protect themselves?

  3. I think the problem is the people. That is why they want to ban guns. If people had weapons, then the government could not exert their influence. Government wouldn’t be as important if the people didn’t need it.

  4. I’m curious about Neo’s view on guns, since she was once an East Coast Liberal, and I’m not sure her “conversion” included changes to such domestic issues.

In any case, we should soon be reading the US Supreme Court’s take on the issue. From a constitutional perspective, the gun banners have a poor argument, and I think they realize that . . .

  5. A female on the sanity squad (not sure if it was Neo) made a statement that she didn’t think Europeans had the equivelent of a 2nd Amendment. In fact, there is a “right to arms” provision in the English Bill of Rights, for what it’s worth.

  6. Thanks, DonS. I made the statement; I wasn’t sure if they had such a safeguard or not. Unfortunately, the provision seems to be worth nothing. If you follow the links in my post, it appears that England has whittled this right down to the vanishing point.

  7. That the subjects which are Protestants may have arms for their defence suitable to their conditions and as allowed by law

Well neo, it only protected Protestants, and even then the “allowed by law” phrase presents a large loophole.

After WW1, Brits who provided aid to the government during the war received some compensation in the form of captured German arms, including machine guns and artillery (depending on the amount of aid provided).

Frankly, I wouldn’t mind a good MG08 water cooled machine gun. It would be a lot of fun in the desert, and at least several years ago surplus 7.92 mm ammo was very cheap. Due to size and weight, it would have little practical value, but also little criminal value. The Korean shopkeeps could have made use of such things during the LA riots, however.

    How things change.
