Biden’s gaffe is the left’s truth — 70 Comments

  1. Obviously slow Joe has bought into AOC’s viewpoint that facts and accuracy don’t matter if you are “morally right.” i.e. as OAC has said…

“There’s a lot of people more concerned with being precisely, factually, and semantically right than about being morally right.”

I take her statement to mean that, if your Ideology is “correct, then things like the truth or facts are of lesser importance.

Like those people who say that, even if something didn’t happen, they could see it happening, and that’s good enough.

So X didn’t really do Y, but you know that in his heart he really wanted to do Y, so it’s the same as if he actually did Y.

  2. China Joe used that same “science over fiction” line in Iowa. Doesn’t he have anything new?

This clown needs to be pressed on his relationship to China and what he knew about the FBI spying on the Trump campaign. And the unmasking of US persons via wiretaps after Trump won.

Global Warming is a total scam. Any fool can see that it only helps China.

  3. To test his/their commitment to science, publicly ask China Joe, or any other Democrat, how many sexes there are … and watch the “scientific” hilarity which ensues.

I understand that a young lady recently asked him how many “genders” there are, and he replied “At least three”. And that when she further asked if he could list them, he said “Don’t play games with me, kid.”

  4. Heh as to the three genders vs. (two) sexes answer, since in a number of languages there are indeed three genders and only two sexes. English? Not so simple, is it?

  5. “We choose truth over facts.”

Correction; ‘We choose what we wish to be true over factual reality.’

I don’t think it was a gaffe at all, that’s exactly what they believe.

Out of the mouths of children (and fools)… sometimes comes truth.

  6. Yup, “fake but accurate” has been the Democrat approach since 2004. Probably Biden just misspoke, but accidentally told the truth.

  7. … in a number of languages there are indeed three genders and only two sexes.

I know (and those languages are not English). And normally I’d be willing to cut him some slack … while recognizing that he danced around the question we all know was really being asked. But, things are no longer normally: the leftists intentionally conflate ‘gender’ with ‘sex’, and then demand that we all go along with their further lies on the matter.

Then, his response to the follow-up makes it clear that he he knows full well the power-game his own side is playing.

  8. Probably Biden just misspoke, but accidentally told the truth.

You know the old daffynition of ‘gaffe’: “a ‘gaffe’ is when a politician accidentally tells the truth.”

  9. The only tiny detail Neo missed in that paragraph is the word “even.”

“Even his supporters know who he is.”

Even people as dumb and ill informed as his supporters know …

Wow, it must be super common knowledge then. We’re always being lectured about how the leaders of the left operate on a entirely different plane of brilliance and moral superiority. Must be wonderful up there.
    ____

I thought Neo was going to use this Biden quote:

“Poor kids are just as bright, just as talented, as white kids.” He quickly added, “Wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids, no I really mean it, …”

This one was clearly a slip of the tongue, but was it also a Freudian slip? Do some Dems now see everything in terms of skin color?

  10. #4. What he means – You will all be absorbed into the hive. We will have unity when everyone thinks and believes the same thing.

  11. The way that Progressives talk about such things as unity, facts or love (remember Love Trumps Hat?), it reminds me of the following from “Animal House,”

Dean Wormer: Carmine, I don’t think it’s right that you should extort money from the college.
Mayor Carmine De Pasto: Look, these parades you throw are very expensive. You using my police, my sanitation people, and my Oldsmobiles free of charge. So, if you mention extortion again, I’ll have your legs broken.

  12. Ilion, I’m utterly unwilling to cut Biden any slack, though I reckon it’s possible he studied a bit of Latin or other such in his youth I doubt he’s remembering or leaning on that. Nah, my remark was just for you and me and the laughs. On the other hand, I have had a long standing animus against those who conflate sex with gender and vice-versa.

Indeed, I once saw a video interview of Justice Ginsberg from back in the day (prior to her elevation to the Supreme Court) in which she bragged with false modesty to her fawning interviewer that she was instrumental in creating this sex-gender conflation in some feminine rights case that she argued before the SCOTUS (repping the ACLU I think). She said she was embarrassed at her difficulty saying the word “sex” in public, and therefore searched for a substitute, landing on “gender” as a word she could use in substitution without embarrassment in oral argument.

I was willing to take her word for this, and have blamed her ever since. I mean, what the hell, why not? She’s just that sort of jenny-ass.

  13. Sdferr, that’s why I said “And normally I’d be willing to cut him some slack

These are the “rules” the Dems (and RINOs) insist that conservative be judged by, so let them also be judged by these rules.

  14. I have had a long standing animus against those who conflate sex with gender and vice-versa.

Indeed. The initial conflation was a deliberate first-step to get to where we are today.

… in which [RBG] bragged with false modesty …

Not at all surprised. After all, this is the same woman who *openly* boasts of turning to “international law” when judging (*) whether a US law violates the US Constitution.

(*) which power is not granted the federal courts in the first place.

  15. She said she was embarrassed at her difficulty saying the word “sex” in public, and therefore searched for a substitute, landing on “gender” as a word she could use in substitution without embarrassment …

After the word ‘sex’ was expanded to mean “the sex *act*”, and then that became its primary use, most people became embarrassed to say “sex” in polite society … it was *almost* the same as saying “fuck”. That embarrassment is how the leftists were able to get the conflation broadly accepted.

And, of course, *now* you hardly go out in public without being constantly assaulted by the word “fuck”.

  16. Exactly. In fact, Ginsberg described herself in the interview as something of a “prude”. Prude, her word.

  17. Shoot! Once — twenty years or more ago — as I was walking into a computer show in Columbus OH, I saw a guy walking out who had, on front and back of his tee-shirt, two views of a guy performing self-fellatio.

  18. So this is where we exit making the Monty Python “Life of Brian” joke with Pontius Pilate asking “What’s so funny about Biggus Dickus?”?

  19. Two sexes (i.e. genotype): male, female. Two genders (i.e. set of physical and mental attributes, similar to phenotype): masculine, feminine, respectively. And a third quasi-gender: transgender, or, urbanely, rainbow, of transversal physical and/or mental attributes, through genetic, phenotypic, or perhaps conscious drift.

  20. n.n.,

No, sexes are divided between, a) heterosexual; b) homosexual; and c) confused people.

  21. Once you accept that the democrat party is a cult of crazy, it all begins to make sense.

  22. Pingback:Sorta Blogless Sunday Pinup » Pirate's Cove

  23. “We got to let him know who we are.” This is his Obama “get in their face” and “if they bring a knife we bring a gun” statement of hounding Trump supporters, damaging, or ruining them as possible until they either come around to the Dem side or at least STFU. Nothing more, nothing less. See: Joaquin Castro.

  24. The term gender comes from Anthropology and was used to refer to a set of characteristics that were cultural and not biological. Gender refers to the expected behavior patterns and social roles associated with being male or female. It is a scientific distinction to differentiate between the biological sex and the learned cultural behavior. Between physically being male or female and the character of being masculine or feminine.
Liberals make the mistake of conflating the two. That because there are people who do not exhibit the correct behavior for their sex, it infers that there is a biological basis for gender that is trans-sexual.

  25. “We choose truth over facts.”

definition of truth: “a belief that is accepted as true”

    “We choose belief over facts”

  26. Occam’s Razor says . . . no.

Sleep Joe is not a smart man. To believe the conclusion of this article, you have to believe an inarticulate man set forth all this to reach an obtuse point that outwardly, even to his own audience, sounds like a mistake. If you have to tear apart his words to reach this conclusion, it isn’t the right conclusion.

We know the Dem hard left (AOC, etc.) have their “truths” and the entire idea is horse hockey. But here, Sleepy Joe was extemporizing and said what he said–being Joe.

  27. There is simple truth, and then there is Revolutionary Truth, the Marxist-Leninist concept that “truth” is anything that advances the Left’s desire. AOC stated this plainly when she went on 60 Minutes on Jan. 6 and said, “There’s a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right.”

I have written a lot about this, the AOC example is the first one at the top of this page.

  28. We choose science over fiction. We choose truth over facts.

Joe and his allies don’t see that much of their trust in SCIENCE! is based in a blind faith in their ability to accurately and completely perceive the universe … a faith far more blind than anything involving a supernatural Deity or deities, that leads them to put what they consider “truth” over objective facts.

A blind faith that leads them to think of society not as Left vs. Right, but as Normal vs. Ignorant/Evil, with the latter considered unworthy of respect for their unalienable rights because of their “abnormality” … i.e. they are The Other.

  29. I guess this was written before Biden’s latest gaffe, that he met the kids from the Parkland shooting [2018] while he was vice-president, which his staff tried to quickly neutralize by saying he was referring to the Sandy Hook shooting [2012]. Can you imagine how difficult it is to be the person(s) that have to clean up after Slow Joe’s daily dump of mindlessness and try to foster and protect the idea that Joe’s is ‘playing with a full deck’ which Trump questioned. In truth/fact Joe is just a bullshitting old politician who lacks the sense to not let every thought he has become speech until it’s been vetted.

  30. At the risk of being labled as pedantic I’d like to point out that it is a deserted island not desert.

  31. I’ve thought about al”truth over facts” line. The Left loves to mock evangelical Christians with their “ridiculous belief that the world was made in 7 days”, and their refusal to accept Darwinian evolution. Why those dolts believe in magic and myth

Well for a devout Christian the Bible is the truth. I’ve seen a bumper sticker to the effect that “Jesus said it, I believe it–case closed”.

The Left has its own secular religion–a sort of faith based perception of the world, expressed with the same intensity as that of any snake handling backwoods preacher.

  32. “Don’t play games with me kid !” said Joltin’ Joe as he grabbed the arm of a physically unthreatening young woman who asked the codger a question about gender. Hardball touchy-feely from Grampa Smurf.

  33. The difference being that that backwoods preacher argues for a belief in the universality of man, each born in God’s image with a spark of the divine within and therefore the natural freedoms of speech and conscience, each valuable with great potential. His argument may not always be eloquent and seldom made explicitly but it is based on the belief in appropriate humility, born of our free will, our tendency toward sin but also our ability to transcend. Even the backwoods preacher doesn’t see any man as just “bad code.”

  34. Sitting here on this beautiful Sunday morning enjoying the Kentucky hills across the Ohio river, this section is so rural it probably hasn’t changed much in the last two hundred years. It’s quite and peacefully calm. I’ve come to the reality that living in a large American city is just absolutely for numb nuts. I’m sure if lived in that environment I’d be just as crazy too. Most of my neighbors are just common, decent folks. My truth is living in a rural area is special. Well i have to run, the eagles are harassing the crows and I don’t want to miss the show. Happy Sunday.

  35. Your analysis is marvelous. I’d only express a bit more clearly that Biden’s “truth” is that of dogma and when dogma is challenged by facts, his kind go for the dogmas. Indeed, that mindset is one of the most important cultural shifts of recent years. My hunch is that it began with Roe’s claim that human babies aren’t babies.

  36. Ignoring the semantic arguments over “gender”, I’ll point out a physical reality: there are more “sexes” than M & F. There are children born lacking any sort of gonads, and children born with both ovaries and testes, and this doesn’t even consider drastic variants of external genitalia.

Disputing these facts leaves you on the wrong side of the scientific argument, and unable to counter the left’s use of non-binary sex characteristics as a weapon in the cultural wars.

We have to acknowledge this and allow for accomodation, while opposing the left’s attempt to destroy society by forcing, not accomodation, but superiority of the characteristics of well under 0.01% of the population.

  37. buddhaha, I find it very unlikely that Biden was referring to these very small numbers of children born with defects in their reproductive systems. As in all cases of birth defects, we do our medical best to provide the child with a productive life and treat the problems with kindness and consideration. The case of someone like the runner Caster Semanya, for instance, is tough. However, making general public policy changes based on a tiny number of hard cases doesn’t make sense.

The leftist argument about “genders” and how many there are is not based in biology but rather in psychology.

  38. budahaha:

Sorry, but those conditions are birth defects. A B normal conditions. Try the “science” argument again.

  39. No one disputes the fact of birth defects. Why would they do? But who would assert the child born armless is merely another kind of appendaged person? “These are different sorts of appendages, these missing arms, you see. They are quite useful for not striking others in the nose.”

Why sex (at all)? What is the meaning of this category “sex”?

Are these “more” sexes kinds or types (genoi, eidoi) which can generate through reproduction new children just like themselves with a similar high degree of correspondence (0.01% given here)? If not . . . what gives?

Indeed, how are born gonadless human beings to reproduce to begin with? Seems that example would nearly be better termed as unsexed in some regard, albeit not at a chromosomal level of determination (as with a castrato) or indetermination in some other sort.

So, there may be questions forthcoming.

  40. }}} 4. We choose unity over division.

That would be humorous if it didn’t reflect another “truth” that Democrats seem to believe about themselves, or at least like to present as the truth about themselves. But it is positively Orwellian. Division is their middle name, their modus operandi, their main tactic.

The do choose unity. The unity of fascist lockstep. They UTILIZE identity politics to divide, but if you don’t say exactly the Correct Things, you are more ephed than Epstein was.

  41. All my liberal friends notice but discount Biden’s slips. Actually, they discount any flaw of any Democrat and see any Republican as flawed beyond redemption. It’s cartoonish.

Although he appears to catch himself, however belatedly, the slip ups seem unusually frequent to me. Is it possible two brain operations might be the cause?

  42. Pat Bartlett:Well i have to run, the eagles are harassing the crows and I don’t want to miss the show.

Nearly every spring, and fall, I have a similar show in my own yard. Except, it’s the crows harassing a hawk. But then, I live near the center of a mid-sized city.

  43. At the risk of being labled as pedantic I’d like to point out that it is a deserted island not desert.

    Here’s what Merriam-Webster’s says:

The ‘desert’ in ‘desert island’ is actually an archaic form of ‘deserted’. It doesn’t mean that the island is dry; it means that the island is uninhabited.

Desert and deserted share etymological roots from the Latin word desertus, which means “abandoned” or “deserted.” These English words date back to the 1200s, whereas the verb to desert, meaning “to abandon,” didn’t enter English until some 400 years later (with a detour through French). Therefore, although we might think of the essential qualities of a desert are sand and heat, the word truly refers to the lack of anything else, particularly people or cultivated land. Going back further into the word’s history, we see that desertus comes from de (“not”) + serere (“to join” or “to link together”)—it means “not joined” or “disconnected” from population and civilization and corresponds to the dictionary definition labeled archaic: “a wild uninhabited and uncultivated tract.” It’s obvious that the idea of the noun desert has blended with the adjective desert meaning “deserted” in the minds of most English speakers.

    More here: https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/what-is-the-desert-in-desert-island

  44. That first line should be in quotes: “At the risk of being labled as pedantic I’d like to point out that it is a deserted island not desert.”

  45. “We choose truth over facts.”

That’s NOT a gaffe. Maya Angelou allegedly said in a 1989 Florida interview, “There’s a world of difference between truth and facts. Facts can obscure the truth. You can tell so many facts that you fill the stage but haven’t got one iota of truth.”

  46. Slow Joe and “gaffes”. I believe they aren’t so much a gaffe as evidence how stupid this fool/tool really is. He’s an empty suit. On every major policy issue for the past 40 years, he was on the wrong side. Senator for life from Delaware, picked by Chairman O because Barry needed a dumb white running mate, and there he was.

  47. Esther:

“Is it possible two brain operations might be the cause?”

Either that or the hair plugs were set in too deep.

  48. John Adams reportedly said that facts are stubborn things. I’ll take his wisdom over the pronouncements of AOC, or China Joe, or all the other postmodernist “thinkers” and “scholars.” Hundreds of millions killed by totalitarians in the last 100 years are facts that somehow don’t ring true.

  49. Buddhaha,

“We have to acknowledge this and allow for accommodation.” When the characteristics of one / one-hundredth of the members of a species are markedly different than the characteristics of the other 99.99%, why is it that the 99.99% need to do all of the accommodation? Perhaps your assertion might have some validity in terms of a religious precept, but Darwin certainly disagrees with it. The 99.99% reduce their chances of survival if they devote an inordinate amount of effort and treasure to “accommodating” the 0.01% who will never be able to make an equally significant contribution to the whole species . . . except to those members of the species to whom the most important value is signalling their virtue to the rest of us.

  50. Neo,

If you’re going to keep up with Sleepy Joe’s gaffes, you’re going to have to increase your output . . .

  51. That’s NOT a gaffe. Maya Angelou allegedly said in a 1989 Florida interview, “There’s a world of difference between truth and facts. Facts can obscure the truth. You can tell so many facts that you fill the stage but haven’t got one iota of truth.”

It should understood, but widely isn’t, that most. if not all, facts are “theory dependent”. Put another way, the axioms determine the conclusions.

Example: You are at sea-level; you heat some water to boiling. Is the temperature of the water 100 degrees or 212 degrees? The fact you note in your logbook depends upon the chosen theory of temperature measurement.

  52. Science quiz time!

1.) How many sexes do mammals exhibit? (Two)
2.) Are human beings mammals? (Yes)
3.) What is the distinguishing characteristic of mammals? (Adult females have mammary glands.)

If you got any of these answers wrong, you are antiscience.

  53. Science=what scientific priesthood tells us about geoscience, earth shape, moon landing, and Global Warming.

  54. I have written here before about the manipulation of statistics, and here is a prime example.

Ilhan Omar has said that “white supremacist terror” is a far greater threat in our country than is the threat from Jihadis, and CNN’s Don Lemon made the same point, the source for which is, according to the linked article, an April 2017 GAO Report, which said that, by their count, 106 people had been killed in 62 attacks by what the Report termed “far right violent extremists,” whereas only 119 people had been killed in 23 attacks by “radical Islamist violent extremists.”

The people at the GAO arrived at these deceptive “statistics” painting “far right violent extremists “ as far more active, and a far greater threat than Jihadists by starting their count on September 12, 2001, rather than, as one would expect, on January 1, of 2001.

    Why?

Well, of course, by starting their count on September 12th, 2001 they were able to deliberately exclude from their count the 2,996 people killed by “radical violent Islamist extremists” on September 11th, 2001.

    See https://pjmedia.com/homeland-security/ilhan-omar-falsely-claims-that-white-men-are-greater-threat-than-jihadis/

  55. This reminds me of the GoDaddy ad: Age is just an illusion. How you perceive the world is what matters. Truth and fiction.

  56. Robert Spencer,i n the article linked above, also points out that, if you really wanted to gauge the magnitude of the threat from each one of these two different groups, you would also include the number of thwarted attacks in your assessment.

If you did that, it would be seen that while there were many hundreds of reported “radical violent extremist Islamist” attacks that were successfully thwarted, there were only a handful to such thwarted attacks that were attempted by “far right violent extremists,” thus clearly showing that the threat from determined and persistent Jihadis is actually far greater than that from far less persistent and determined “far right violent extremists. “

  57. “Example: You are at sea-level; you heat some water to boiling. Is the temperature of the water 100 degrees or 212 degrees? The fact you note in your logbook depends upon the chosen theory of temperature measurement.”

Out of respect for Neo, I’ll keep this as polite as I can.

Temperature measurement isn’t a ‘theory’. If I say my car is red, and a visitor from Marseille says ‘rouge’, has the color of the car changed?

Perhaps you should include Kelvin and Rankine next time – sounds more sciencey.

  58. Why we need to make, Trump speaking Truth to Power, a meme

Mainly to watch the Democrats have a fit and melt down.

  59. Just imagine if Trump and made all these gaffes the media Vultures and Sharks would have a feeding frenzie like after Cheneys hunting accident
