Should reporters sleep with their sources? — 13 Comments

  1. whynot… makes spying a lot easier, and so on and so forth.. #metoo #notmetoo #howboutyou #howaboutewe (the last one is an alternative under progressives)

    on another note

China’s “Thousand Talents” program to tap into its citizens educated or employed in the U.S. is a key part of multi-pronged efforts to transfer, replicate and eventually overtake U.S. military and commercial technology, according to American intelligence officials.

The program, begun in 2008, is far from secret. But its unadvertised goal is “to facilitate the legal and illicit transfer of U.S. technology, intellectual property and know-how” to China, according to an unclassified analysis by the National Intelligence Council, the branch of U.S. intelligence that assesses long-term trends

  2. 1. People should mind their own business

    2. In this case Watkins was trying to uncover the evil Russian spying so should be commended for being resourceful. She has contributed greatly to trumps impending impeachment

  3. See, they have the same evil as Hollywood. Birds of a feather.

There is a reason why sexual purity was often necessary for spiritual enlightenment in various societies and religions.

  4. So when is the “#metoo’ movement going to start outing the sources that the media slept with? Was it a mutually consented immorality or “worse?”

Is a honey trap still a honey trap when the source is a leaker?

Is a spy still a spy (reporter) when the source is a traitor (or just someone (above the law) who doesn’t believe that a particular election should be valid)?

    Just askin….

  5. Love the parenthetical in the linked article after those two “colorful quotes”:

(Is it a great thing or an awful thing that reporters don’t talk like this anymore?)

  6. Trent, for one, welcomes his new Oceanian overlords. He hopes to be named People’s Commissar of the Ministry of Truth.

  7. I would think that in many if not most cases, serious flirting would be sufficient to get the information…actual sex not required.

The French underground worker Jeannie Rousseau, who recently died, said that she was able to get information about the V-1 and V-2 missile programs by befriending German officers and flirting with them…did not sleep with any of them, according to her.

  8. David, I have no link because this story comes from a book read some years ago, but the tactic sticks in my mind for obvious reasons.

A beautiful female member of (IIRC) the French Resistance had a very high kill count. She would appear at a German HQ and ask to see the commanding officer or some one because she had “important information,” but clearly implying that they had a tryst — or would soon; be passed on without being searched (trench coats were suggested); and when meeting the officer, who couldn’t believe his luck, pull out a gun and shoot him point-blank, no hesitation at all (that was the point of the article, BTW – how to succeed at assassination through direct action); then calmly go away, leaving the guards with the distinct impression that the officer was … tired.

    (could even have been Rousseau)

  9. Aesop…wasn’t Rousseau. She never killed anyone, directly at least…the information she provided probably was a major factor in the British raid on Peenemunde, which killed quite a few German scientists and members of their families.

Here’s the transcript of a US CIA ceremony honoring Rousseau (“Amniarix”) and the British scientist Reginald Jones:

Hey, that sounds like something of a training scenario I did.

Oh well, it’s past any time constraints on information actionable anyways.

    Infiltration, assassination, exfiltration.

Those stupid Germans weren’t even half as paranoid as me. And they call themselves whatever…

  11. 26 And no one need say they shall not come, for they surely shall, for the Lord hath spoken it; for out of the earth shall they come, by the hand of the Lord, and none can stay it; and it shall come in a day when it shall be said that miracles are done away; and it shall come even as if one should speak from the dead.

27 And it shall come in a day when the blood of saints shall cry unto the Lord, because of secret combinations and the works of darkness.

Yea, why do ye build up your secret abominations to get gain, and cause that widows should mourn before the Lord, and also orphans to mourn before the Lord, and also the blood of their fathers and their husbands to cry unto the Lord from the ground, for vengeance upon your heads?

41 Behold, the sword of vengeance hangeth over you; and the time soon cometh that he avengeth the blood of the saints upon you, for he will not suffer their cries any longer.,

I found the term “secret combinations” very interesting. We call it a conspiracy now a days. Some people go to jail for it while the MSm suppresses the “conspiracy theorists”… up until the US President became one and made it more popular at least.

The more people the Deep State kills, the larger somebody’s army swells. That’s the problem with killing people that can’t die.
