The no-politics post — 15 Comments

  1. We typically have a potluck dinner with 6 of our neighbors and then have a euchre ‘tournament’. Sometimes we make it to midnight, sometimes we don’t. Its relaxing and fun. Enjoy the evening and don’t waste too much time talking about obamacare.

  2. Staying home – probably won’t even stay up late, either. Being a freelance working at home, tomorrow is not a holiday for me, just another work day. We’ll watch The Two Towers on DVD tonight, in preparation for going out tomorrow to see The Hobbit – The Desolation of Smaug tomorrow at the Alamo Drafthouse tomorrow night. (Movies and drinks and dinner, all in the same place! What a concept – and no children and no cellphones, and the staff will ask you to leave if you are disruptive!)
Another year, another pile of dirty shirts, metaphorically speaking.
When I was still living with my parents, we’d stay up with a marathon Monopoly game.

  3. Happy New Year! My wife and I are baby-sitting grandchildren, so no staying up for us, either. And you (to coin a phrase) deserve a break, Neo. Thank you for all the work you do analyzing complex phenomena like Obamacare. You’re a better journalist than a lot of journalists. (Hmm, I guess I better make a donation…:-))

  4. Our tradition these days is to have an evening meal of Dungenes crab and artichokes. We will toast the New Year when it comes to New York (9pm Pacific time) and then off to bed. Hey, we’re “senior citizens.” We spent many a night on the town making whoopee back in the day. 🙂

New Year’s day will be spent cooking and eating a small ham hocks and black-eyed peas meal (a southern tradition). We’ll be watching some bowl games. My wife loves football more than I do, so we will watch whatever teams are playing (cheering for both teams) for the display of competitive spirit and athleticism. Nothing like football to take our minds off Obama and all the chaos.

  5. Believe me when I saw I want nothing more than a fine and fit and healthy and happy New Year for you, Neo. Tip-top!

  6. Happy New Year, N-Neocon!! May your 2014 be healthy, productive, prosperous and fully engaged.

  7. I haven’t gone out for New Year’s Eve in ages. I just hang out here at home with the cats like I always do. I had a friend who called New Year’s Eve “amateur night”, by which he meant that people who don’t go out drinking all year do it on that one night, and then attempt to drive home. (St. Patrick’s Day is another example.)

I bought a 4-pack of Korbel champagne. Each mini bottle is equivalent to one glass, and I’ll open one of them at midnight. Sure, I’d like to splurge for Moé«t & Chandon, but it doesn’t come in 4-packs and there’s no way I could drink a whole bottle myself.

If I hang out at a site like Ace of Spades, theoretically I could celebrate New Year’s once an hour as the time zones go by. Theoretically.

  8. All good by me. Oh, and Happy New Year. I hope it’s a good one. I’ve, mostly, given up on politics. They just change names, and the sheep eat it up. Hate liberals, well, then, they call it progressive. Learn that progressive is just as bad? Well, how about compassionate conservative? Hate that? Well… on and on it goes, the sheep being lead to cliffs on all sides and a boogeyman or dozen as pushers, at least some of them actually real.

So, skipping politics is okay once in a while. Tire of trying to figure out which is what all of the time.

  9. I was vaguely aware of some booming…or..something around midnight, I guess. At the time I was asleep with the new issue of Commentary across my manly chest in “my side” of the bed with the lamp on. My Tiny Sicilian Queen was beside me engrossed in the most recent Da Vinci Code thriller. Ahhhhh… Let the ‘yoots party… (-:

  10. Happy New Year, NEO and my fellow commenters!

We’re laying low today – the 1st day of legal pot in our state(ugh) – time to enjoy family and some relaxation.

  11. It is, however, becoming more and much more common for any shipper to deliver cars directly to the house with the buyer.
Here again, the role of international car shipping company is not
undermined anyways. The contract also needs to contain a clause by which
the cancelation fee needs to be waived if the business
fails to pick your vehicle within many days following the scheduled pickup date.
