Separated at birth — 6 Comments

  1. Malcolm McDowell at the top, and Terrence Stamp at the bottom.

I think McDowell’s real doppelgé¤nger, though, was Malcolm Muggeridge. The same slightly maniacal twinkle in the eyes. Plus the eyebrows!

Which makes me wonder why Hollywood doesn’t make a movie about Muggeridge’s meeting Mother Teresa, and being the one who introduced her and her work to the wider world. They’ve got the perfect actor for the part.

  2. Ann:

Correct! Give that girl a gold star!

Stamp was handsome in his youth, while McDowell never was (although he had a certain “off” attractiveness). But age is the great leveler.

  3. I saw Terrence (“Kneel Before ZOD!”) Stamp walking down the street in front of Carnegie Hall one night, several years ago. He is quite tall, carries himself with military erectness, and has a 200-yard stare that most definitely does not invite approach. An impressive and intimidating figure.

For you highbrows, “Kneel before Zod!” was his line (as General Zod from Krypton) in one of the Superman movies. A good line to whip out on certain occasions.

Happy New Year, all! I cruised some of the old Times Square newsreels from youtube to compare and contrast with tonight’s do. I noticed one thing in particular — they didn’t use to herd the revelers into cattle pens. It was a lot more fun in the free-for-all days.
