  1. The votes are in. Haley trounced Trump. Dixville Notch voted all for her. What a WIN it is for her.
    Wait, 6 votes total.

  2. Here’s an interesting story.

An English piano player who regularly videos himself playing a piano–there for anyone passing by to play–in the London Underground happens to include several Chinese Communist partisans/agents? milling around in the background in his video, and they tell him that he is apparently “forbidden” from filming their faces, and they are trying to pressure Youtube to take his video containing images of their faces down.*

  3. As a blue eyed person I found this sort of interesting. I’ve gone on a number of mission trips to rural areas of Central America where blue eyes are a rarity and noticed that many of the people there seemed to be fascinated by our blue eyes.

  4. On New Hampshire, the Daily Mail has an “exclusive” report from someone named Rob Crilly who writes that the battle is between the “two wings” of the Republican party — that of McCain, Romney and Cheney on the one side and Musk, Carlson, and Jones on the other. Alex Jones? Seriously? Where did the Daily Mail get this guy? This reminds me of the running argument on another thread with (I assume) an Englishman who shows he doesn’t really understand American conservatives or Americans in general. The Daily Mail needs some recalibration on this.

I would say massie paul and mt greene as balance if you want political figures

  8. But ZH is entertaining…sometimes, at least.
And sometimes it’s totally off the wall…

One has to read between the headlines…and also take into account its essentially philo-Russian, anti-Israel (with exceptions) and anti-DC-establishment stances—along with some genuine conspiracy theorizing thrown in—all this together with its predilection towards alarmism.
    (But as I said, it’s entertaining…sometimes…)

  9. THE issue of the 2024 campaign will be abortion. In 2022, the Democrats successfully deployed it up and down the ballot from Senate races to local races. It is telling that the first appearance by Biden of the 2024 campaign will be a rally in Virginia on abortion. Perhaps Neo can comment on other strategies but I think a good one would be for Republicans in swing states to qualify common sense ballot initiatives on abortion. They can use that to contrast their views to the truly radical murder babies anytime during pregnancy position of the Democrats. Of course, that would require some thinking and effort by the Republican party apparatus. To paraphrase Reagan’s demand of Gorbachev, Mr. Trump fire Ronna Romney.

  10. @physicsguy – Been done.

Move on down, move on down the road. Heh.

I’ve been blessed with icy-blue irises bordering on light gray and my daughter says they go all gray when I’m mad. One source says gray irises are prone to changing color.

They don’t have powers but some people sure believe it.

We don’t know the whys of blue irises but their distribution implies something to do with available light.

Green irises are rare (~2%). Some sources say rarest although I knew a girl in high school who had violet eye (~1%).

  11. Heh. Just looked it up. Seems like my irises are in the < 1% category, same as violet.

Maybe that's why people find them strange.

  12. Dems will certainly try to make it about abortion. Rs need to work harder to point out that the D position on abortion is truly radical, way beyond Roe v. Wade.

Most people, I hope, will vote their pocketbooks instead.

  13. If anyone should be banned its the green party ive spoken of their roots as a stasi operation

  14. A surprising number of commenters here have blue-green-violet eyes.

    What’s up with that?

  15. Pocketbook issues? Runaway inflation, runaway illegal immigration, massacring Muslims of the Middle East (and lefty love of anti-semitism, thus hate for Israel and Jews in general)? Nope, its all about killing babies.

To say nothing about China, China, China …… , or federal criminality.

  16. huxley, blue eyes appear to be quite common in general,

    Kate:

If 27%, as your link reports is quite common, OK.

Although, living mostly in the Sun Belt, that’s not my experience. Nor in Boston.

  17. (1/23/24)

A Canadian Federal Court Judge found Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s use of a counter-terrorism law to shut down the Freedom Convoy trucker protests against vaccine mandates and other lockdown measures in 2022 unconstitutional.

Federal Court Justice Richard Mosley ruled that the use of the Emergencies Act by the Liberal government of Justin Trudeau to shut down a series of trucker-led protests in February of 2022 was “unreasonable”, CBC reports.

  18. “someone named Rob Crilly who writes that the battle is between the “two wings” of the Republican party — that of McCain, Romney and Cheney on the one side and Musk, Carlson, and Jones on the other. Alex Jones? Seriously? Where did the Daily Mail get this guy?” Kate

It’s not about being accurate, it’s about painting the populist wing as extremists. Musk, Carlson, and Jones are hated on the left. Claiming that they are representative of the populist right ‘proves’ that it’s not just Trump that is an extremist but anyone who supports him. We are, each and every one of us a domestic terrorist…

  19. BOMB SHELL NEWS! An audio tape has surfaced, and The Daily Mail says it’s confirmed that the chairman of the GOP in Arizona Jeff DeWit made a “name your price” type of offer to Kari Lake to retire from politics for two years.

Lake demurs, stating that the country’s future is at stake and rejecting his offer, made in March last year, saying no, “not for a billion dollars.” Six months later she announced her run for the U.S. Senate against Senator Kyrsten Sinema, a disaffected Democrat.

The Uniparty wing of the Rs, co-controlling Federal spending, and money bags connected with the US Chamber of Commerce and Senate R leader Mitch McConnell will be implicated, methinks.

Kari Lake is a former TV news anchor in Phoenix who was widely expected to win the last Arizona governor’s race. She’s been duking it out against voting fraud in the courts with Maricopa County “officials” ever since.

    EXCERPT from DM:

DeWit tells Lake, 54, one of the most public faces of the former president’s MAGA movement and a woman frequently spoken of as a 2024 vice-presidential pick, that he thinks Trump will lose and it is time to make way for someone else.

After asking her not to mention the conversation to anyone, he makes his first offer.

At the time of their conversation, Lake was publicly mulling a run for the U.S. Senate.

And the episode reveals the tensions triggered after she refused to accept defeat in the 2022 Arizona governor race.

She emerged as a national figure, becoming a regular on Fox News as she echoed Trump’s election denialism. That put her at odds with the more traditional wing of the Republican Party who feared a new breed of Trump loyalist may alienate big donors.

In October, she announced her run.

Lake has previously discussed the extraordinary effort to keep her out of the race, but never revealed who was behind it….

[After the offer] Lake reacts with indignation.

‘This is about defeating Trump and I think that’s a bad, bad thing for our country,’ she said.

Later, DeWit, who was chief operating officer on the Trump’s 2020 campaign frames it differently.

‘Just say, is there a number at which….’ he begins.

Lake cut in: ‘I can be bought? That’s what it’s about.’

‘You can take a pause for a couple of years. You can go right back to what you’re doing.’

Lake repeatedly rebuffs him and says she wouldn’t do it for a billion dollars.

‘This is not about money, it’s about our country,’ she says.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12996297/EXCLUSIVE-Audio-recording-reveals-moment-senior-Republican-figure-tried-bribe-Kari-Lake-not-run-Senate.html

Apparently, the story first surfaced from a radio talk show host in Tucson yesterday.

I’m monitoring his afternoon show, featuring this recording. Jeff DeWit intimates that the 2020 election outcome was “stolen”, and importunes Lake to cooperate because “what if he [Trump] loses again?”

DEEP STATE republoKKKrats, “come out! come out to play!”

“They’ll have to kill me to stop me from running” for high office. “Tell them that”, she ribs back at DeWit.

  20. BOMB SHELL NEWS update: The Gateway Pundit has more, rich quotes from scumbag Chairman of Arizona Republican Party, Jeff DeWit, and Senate candidate Kari Lake, whom he tried to bribe.

    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/01/breaking-leaked-audio-confirms-rino-azgop-chair-jeff/

Republican scumbags, make your reservations to fly out of the country ASAP.
    Just Do It. NOW.

Radio show from Tucson still airing here
    https://knst.iheart.com/featured/garret-lewis/

“Very powerful people back East want this…” to happen, says DeWit.

‘There are very powerful people who want to keep you out,“ of politics, says DeWit to Kari Lake.

Who knew that our time’s “Mr Smith Goes to Washington” would be a woman from Arizona?

  21. Barry Meislin writes “But ZH is entertaining…sometimes, at least.”

For non-subscribers to the Epoch Times, ZH is your best free source for their reliable and anti-communist reporting, often in depth. At least every other day!

  22. physicsguy @11:52am,

Your comment stirred a memory. I don’t think I watched this when it aired, but I remember it being advertised.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_Happened_One_Christmas
“The film, a gender-reversed version of the 1946 film It’s a Wonderful Life, centers on Mary Bailey Hatch (Marlo Thomas), a young woman who dreams of seeing the world but is forced by circumstances to remain in her small hometown as head of the family’s Building & Loan business. On a Christmas Eve, in a moment of financial crisis, a severely depressed Mary contemplates suicide, but is rescued by her guardian angel, Clara Oddbody (Cloris Leachman). Clara shows Mary the positive effect that she has had on everyone she has met throughout her life.

(I’ve long had a soft spot for The Wiz, so…)

  24. Blue eyes here. They have been called intense.

I once worked with a beautiful young blonde woman who was an eleven. Her eyes were the most stunning blue. One day I was in a big box computer store and the checker was this stunning young redhead with those same eyes. I mentioned to her that I had seen another with those eyes and after a short conversation she says “she is one of my sisters”.

  25. Kate: “I was hoping for one characteristic which is “normal,”
    Does your obvious intelligence count?

vv on January 23, 2024 at 3:08 pm: that is great news on slapping down Trudeau et al., but where does that leave the Truckers and their bank accounts, let alone their ability to convert their government back to a more conservative one?

  26. @ huxley > “A surprising number of commenters here have blue-green-violet eyes. What’s up with that?”

Well, the guy said the blue eyes are better for seeing in dim light and most of us are up late at night, so QED?

I can get on board with that explanation, as I am very much in sync with this commenter at the video:
    @andream8234
As a blue eyed person I can confirm that I see very well in low light, and most people around me wonder why I am always doing things in the ‘dark’. I am also sensitive to sunlight and need sunglasses even when its cloudy.

AesopSpouse, although also blue-eyed, does not have the same sensitivities, and is always “helping me” by turning on the lights that I deliberately left off. I keep sunglasses in every car, purse, and coat pocket.

I thought the narrator’s speculations about the reason for brown-eyed groups moving into ancient Europe and then becoming mostly blue-eyed was interesting, since the lighter pigment is a recessive trait and in other migrations the brown eyes soon dominated the populations. However, he doesn’t answer why sexual selection (“Blue eyes are so sexy!”) operated in the first case but not the others.

  27. The Kari Lake—Jeff DeWit bribery audio is posted on line at Garret Lewis radio page, plus his X and Instapundit pages.

But here, video blogger “George” smartly introduces this audio by first calling attention to how Kari Lake explained that heavy moneybags were out to bribe her— without naming names or associations — in her speech at CPAC (Feb? Mar?) last year. He posts video of her at that confab — you might have even heard about it, back then. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUwt-JMrSjA

  28. TJ, about the audio: it’ll be interesting to hear what Kari Lake says the next few days. Will she confirm it?
Will Dewitt? Or will there be lawsuits for fraud … Or?
With all that’s going on regarding AI, I wonder / worry if this is another case of a faked conversation, made & released to cause trouble.
    What times we have reached!

  29. Doubt is out…
…except for the things you’re SUPPOSED TO DOUBT, of course, as decided by our Betters(TM)…though in that case, you’re not supposed to doubt so much as to CANCEL, IGNORE, DISREGARD, DISPARAGE, DENIGRATE, MOCK…
    …indeed…The Narrative(TM) Uber Alles…

    ‘ Doubt As a Badge of Honor;
‘ Pro-trans activists accuse a critical organization of being an “agent of uncertainty.” ‘—
    https://www.city-journal.org/article/we-should-doubt-trans-activists-claims
    H/T Powerline blog.

“Though shalt not doubt” sounds rather like religious doctrine, which in fact it is.
And so we have things like: Follow the science! (That is, the science that our elites have declared to be true.)

  30. I’m coming in late on the eye-color question, but I wonder how the guy can leap completely over the association of blue eyes with pale skin. The selection pressure may have been mostly for vitamin-D enhancing paleness. I don’t see a reason to jump to speculation about sexual selection, and I (blue-eyed) scorn the flattery.
