  1. Long long ago I worked for a company that had an office in the Chrysler Building. Beautiful building. It even had windows that Opened!

  2. Dr. McCullough testifies in AZ re: hundreds of thousands of deaths from the jab.

    Caveat lector.

  3. Newsom’s proposed 28th amendment is an “own goal”. What an idiot.

  4. lourdes is the russian station, the piece doesn’t tell you where this one is located,

  5. Well “what jumps out at ME” is that the ugly radiator caps are featured, while the majestic gargoyle eagles are not even mentioned!

  6. Thanks for the link to the Canadian story about arsonists and the fires up there, cb.

This number of fires this early in the year is extremely suspicious. I have believed that many of the “wildfires” we see in this country are being set by enviro-whackos. They don’t have any real facts to show that climate change is horrendously bad, so they’re setting fires and blaming it on an “overheating planet.”

Lightning sets some fires, but not on the scale we’re seeing in Canada or California.

  7. They had to destroy the forest to save the planet. Makes perfect sense. (sarc)

Some just want to burn it all down.

  8. This number of fires this early in the year is extremely suspicious.

The Canadian wildfires have had one beneficial effect: JoJo canceled a Pride Month party because the haze and smoke has moved southward to DC:

“The White House postponed a Pride Month party with singer Betty Who scheduled for Thursday night as smoke from Canadian wildfires enveloped the nation’s capital. President Biden, 80, has suffered from asthma since his childhood and DC residents, especially those with health issues, were warned by authorities to stay indoors as the thick toxic smog wafted into town Wednesday night into Thursday morning.”

  9. Just another open-thread comment about something I read.

At his substack “The Upheaval,” N.S. Lyons has written a review essay on the outbreak of good articles that analyze recent cultural and political change in Saudi Arabia and the other states of the Arabian Gulf (https://tinyurl.com/zrzvkrvs).

For a few years, I worked in Qatar, and my experience leaves me skeptical of attempts to paint these changes as liberalization. But after reading some of these pieces, I have to admit that something significant might be happening. Anyway, it’s worth thinking about.

    Here’s an example paragraph:

“Now let’s say along comes a Sheikh who offers them both a compromise: all the material perks/degeneracy of global techno-liberal-capitalism, but the worst of it is kept pretty quiet, you don’t have to wave the Progress Pride Flag, and the streets aren’t covered in feces and crazy people. You just have to ditch the democracy and yield the government vast powers of digital surveillance and control – but it will be competent and subtle with its power and generally leave you alone if you don’t cross it. Instead of illiberal democracy or run-away liberal-progressive nightmare you can have a relatively stable liberal authoritarianism. How many on right and left alike would take this deal? At this point, I suspect a lot of people.”

  10. A couple of years ago the AQI in eastern Washington was really high with various wildfires in the PNW. It was over 400 on the air quality meter I had. We used a very simple filter like the one linked, using a 20″ box fan and at least one merv 13 20×20″ filter.

It really works. You may want to concentrate on one area of the house and close off other areas, depending on the size of your house.

  11. My asthmatic daughter in suburban Northern VA left work at noon, too sick to stay, and is holed up at home with her inhaler.

  12. Kate, I’m sorry about that. I hope she gets better soon.

I was just reading at AirNow.gov about the AQI and what it means. Of course I was curious about what the number really is, and was a little surprised to find that it’s a sort of weighted aggregate of the measured concentrations of several different pollutants. The site has an interactive map that can show 24-hour historical loops, like the weather radar people find so fascinating. It looks like northern VA got a dose of the purple band this morning, even a spot of plum briefly, which correlates with what your daughter was experiencing, I suppose.

An effective and regrettably illegal way for the board at Disney to clean up Disney’s theme parks and management strata would be to herd the male employees into a set of gymnasia, with each employee seated in a private cubicle equipped with a curtain, computer screen, and a penometer wired to a central data repository. Technicians and nurses show up at each cubicle and direct each employee to the exits if they’d like to resign. For those who remain, the nurses attach the penometer to their junk. Task completed, images of naked children are flashed on the computer screen, followed by images of naked adolescent males. Persons who take the penometer off are fired. Persons whose genitals are responsive above and beyond a certain baseline are also fired.

A less elaborate way of cleaning up Disney (which would have been legal in 1962) would be to stop hiring men to dress up in costume unless the characters they play are unambiguously male humanoids and to remove the known homosexuals from management. Disney seems to have been turned into a train-wreck of friend hires friend.
