Tucker Carlson announces his return — 26 Comments

  1. How do I get a Twitter account? No prob. I’ll figure it out.

  2. I wonder about rumors of Musk buying Newsmax. Maybe that will be the Fox killer.

I guess at long last I will get a Twitter account,.

  3. Great news (I think/hope!). I’ve surprisingly been on Twitter for 10 years for some reason, so now I’ll have incentive to actually go there.

  4. fox did tupoleved itself, or committed harakiri, in jettisoning tucker,

  5. You do not have to have a Twitter account in order to look at entries. You can use any internet connection and enter https://twitter.com/TuckerCarlson to see the entries.

Of course, you cannot make comments or do other Twitter things, but if you just want to read the account, this is a good option.

  6. I never did much with Twitter until the news-suppression issue became prominent and the Musk acquisition was mooted. I find it a lot better than I had thought it was. It’s all a matter of who you follow and what discussions, if any, you choose to engage in.

  7. A high % of Tucker’s viewers, I’d guess, are more TV-oriented than computer-oriented….don’t know how many of them already connect their computers to TV via HDMI or whatever, or already have a streaming device such as Roku installed.

  8. I often follow Twitter ” tweets” from the Fox News website. They will post an article on this or that and link back to the original tweet. The Fox website often makes stories in which much of the original content comes from someone’s tweet and other tweets in response to it. There is a lot going on in the Twitter verse concerning transgenders in female sports. A lot of back and forth.

  9. The problem with the Fox Website is that it is becoming more like the Daily Mail with constant articles on this or that middle aged star posting ” bikini” pics.

  10. I keep saying I am going to get a Twitter account and I have yet to do it.
I make more than a healthy amount of comments on the Fox website, already.

  11. I love having a Roku box and do like some of the more fringy channels. I wonder if Twitter or Musk will have a conduit to a Roku channel for Tucker’s show.

  12. TommyJay…I was wondering the same thing. Doing some searching suggests that there *was* a Roku/Twitter connection, but that it was dropped at some point. Also, can’t find any direct way to get to Twitter with my Roku box.

Of course, one can always simply run an HDMI cable from your computer, but having to do this probably cuts the audience size considerably. I understand there’a also a way to mirror streaming video on a laptop or table/phone onto Roku with no cable involved.

  13. Elon Musk tweeted:

“I also want to be clear that we have not signed a deal of any kind whatsoever. Tucker is subject to the same rules & rewards of all content creators.

Rewards means subscriptions and advertising revenue share (coming soon), which is a function of how many people subscribe and the advertising views associated with the content.

I hope that many others, particularly from the left, also choose to be content creators on this platform.”

  14. So, I guess the links to the videos will be on Twitter, and people will need to subscribe to them to view them?

  15. I had the same perspective as Mike Cernovich, in the tweet Barry Meislin linked to at 7:21am.

I think it’s likely Tucker and some of his staff will start posting daily video to Twitter, but this may not be Tucker’s ultimate, next move. He is in negotiations with FoxNews to get released from his contract and/or have FoxNews give him some compensation. I know there are reports that Tucker is willing to walk away from the $20 million/year FoxNews reportedly owes him through January, 2025, but those are reports.

Tucker holds most of the cards in this negotiation but FoxNews has lawyers and deep pockets (at least for now). One has to look at everything either side does right now through the perspective of a poker game with both sides willing to bluff to convince the other to fold.

  16. A perfect fit!
The way it works is that the video is right on twitter. You don’t have to follow a link. That’s part of the attraction — you don’t have to leave the platform. Convenient for twitter users, and a good way to build the platform. Musk is adding new features to support the new business model as fast as he can.
    Cable TV is dying.

  17. tucker broke two many punch bowls for all concerned, thats why he was fired, if you lie, you spread pablum, murdoch will keep you on, see bill o’reilly, don’t even get me started on the eldritch horror that is geraldo,

  18. Rufus, one of Tucker’s lawyers is Harmeet Dhillon, so he’s got some legal firepower of his own.

  19. I doubt that Carlson’s new platform will be reaching anywhere near the audience he had at Fox. As someone posted upthread, his audience is more TV oriented than Twitter.

  20. I still contend that Tucker’s current use of Twitter may be more of a negotiation tactic* than an end goal; Twitter, however, is a great, natural place for 24/7 news. For quite a few years now we have seen amazing, breaking news coverage on Twitter. Every human with a cell phone and a data plan is a potential, on the scene reporter. Earthquakes, coups, hurricanes, fires, arrests, attempted arrests, protests… No news agency, no matter how deep their pockets, can have enough journalists in the field to match Twitter’s number of sources and consumers.

*As has been noted elsewhere, Tucker threatening to go daily on Twitter is likely outside of any non-compete he has in his current FoxNews contract. In fact, his FoxNews contract likely encourages use of “social media” since that would have drawn people to his FoxNews show. News organizations have pushed their staff to use social media as free advertising.

So, this is a great poker bluff by Tucker and his attorneys. It may also be true, but, as I wrote, until there is a final settlement between Carlson and FoxNews every action on both sides must be considered a negotiation tactic.

Also, if Carlson does do a Twitter show I would guess Rumble and/or several other social media companies will contract with him to duplicate the coverage.

  21. Remember, Elon Musk wants to turn Twitter into something a lot more than it is now, and that surely includes video.

Cable TV prices are so much higher now than pure-Internet prices from the same carriers that a lot of people have been cord-cutting (dumb phrase) and going with Roku or some such plus a plan from Sling or similar to get the programming they want. The more financially-stretched an individual is, the more attractive this approach is going to be. I don’t know what % of Tucker’s audience has already ‘cord cut’, but I wouldn’t be surprise if it’s somewhere around 50%.
