More bad economic news on Friday, today stock market up over 500 points. I am going to go find a brick wall I can hit my head against.
They never mentioned in the shark video why they cannot survive in captivity or what exactly was the cause of death.
Or did they?

I read a lot of “news” from both sides. The usual righty sources (midterms will be a landslide, tsunami, shellacking…). I certainly hope so and will do my part.
The stories from the lefties are different. Most seem resigned to losing some or all of their power, and the more extreme of the ones I read (Slate) are full of articles and letters about how it’s acceptable and even necessary to cut all ties with the half of the country that disagrees politically. Even mom and dad, if they talk about it.
I also have found myself on email lists from several D sources. Beto thinks he’s within the margin of error. At least one source on the left sees R to D flips. All ask me to “chip in,” of course. So far I have resisted.
The metaphor used to be “bubbles.”
I think “silo” is now more accurate, possibly a silo covered in bubble wrap.
Neo isn’t offering an assessment of Petula Clark, either.

The above is the headline of a NY Post newspaper article.
It is incredibly depressing.
It suggests that about 30% of dems disapprove of joke bidet, which means about
70% STILL APPROVE of his performance.
Just goes to show, yet once again, that one’s political ideology is no different than
an individual’s religious belief; people just believe. Facts mean nothing.
People’s beliefs are unshakable.
As I have mentioned several times, the greatest danger facing a representative democracy is the electorate voting for a national suicide.
In defense of the 4/5 democrats, they likely voted for him because he’s not Donald Trump. In Biden’s time in office, he has done a first class job of not being Donald Trump.

Many polls of that nature offer five responses: Strongly Approve, Approve, No Opinion/Don’t Know, Disapprove, Strongly Disapprove. Sometimes No Opinion is separated from Ignorant. Point is, some portion of the polled neither approved nor disapproved.
Also suggests that the Disapprove/Strongly Disapprove camp totals 21%-24%, more likely towards the lower end of that, because at 25% you hit “One in Four” territory.
It appears that Word Salad Syndrome is unbelievably contagious.
(Either that…or those morons—sorry, creepy criminals—will say absolutely anything…)
I lol’d at the why no great whites in aquariums. They should follow up with why no blue whales.
The kinds of things that now need to be explained to people makes me expect that if there’s ever a breakdown in our technological bubble, that mass death will follow. Most of us have been too removed from reality.
The older ones can remember when there wasn’t so much shielding, but that doesn’t mean they’ll necessarily cope better either, since the shielding is what negates a lot of age’s disadvantages.
It is always an advantage to be just that kind of porridge, the Goldilocks effect. Not too hot nor too cold (or not too young or too old?). But in the end she has to face the bears.
I think Trump should make Joe Biden corruption a Big Issue in the closing days before the election. I know he’s mentioned it, but he needs to get it out there like “Lock her up!” was. Then the expected red wave will make it likelier that Americans and all the new rookies understand what is really at stake!
And another thing – not to imply that Joe is the only pol who is “Made in China”, but I can’t see how he and others like him get their talking points. If I were Xi, I sure as hell wouldn’t leave it to Joe’s whims that my investment would be used the right way!

Evidently tens of trillions of dollars of worldwide economic destrution, 6+ million deaths, the compromising of the education of entire generation of children, unquantifiable damage to the mental health, society wide eristic division, and 2 and a half years of just general overal human misery were insufficient to stop gain-of-function research. Of course they’ll claim it’s all to advance treatments for future outbreaks, not to cause them.
er, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has exhibited great white sharks. I remember seeing one there years ago.

My favorite tank and display is the Open Sea tank on the 2nd floor. It is large and more horizontal so that the big guys have room to move. And the lighting is nice because it makes you feel like you are down underwater with them. They usually have a big hammerhead.
