In the 90s, they were still allowed to make fun of wokeness — 15 Comments

  1. I just forwarded this to my son who loved Kids in the Hall when he was young (I wasn’t all that crazy about them). I even took him and his friend to one of their performances in Windsor Canada back in the’90’s. He is now an attorney but still conservative.

But, but, … If you really value free speech you need to move to California. At least, that’s what Gavin Newsome says.

Although, if your speech is making fun of the woke and they take offense, then it could be construed to be hate speech. And Gov. Newsome also tells us that California is a hate free zone. So, you know, it’s complicated.

  3. Theres also pcu a minor classic with jeremy piven and checks notes jon favreau before iron man made him huge

  4. I recall a movie … though not its title with a scene involving Marin County California housewives, all white, all politically liberal.
They nervously ask the Black housekeeper about the size of her hubby’s “member”. After she mentions playing “hide the sausage” with Mr Wang they realize it’s a mixed Black/Asian marriage. And they realize they’re pathetic racists.
An uncomfortable but well crafted scene.

It was years and years ago, I assume skewering the Woke is no longer allowed?

  5. It was wonderful back in the good old days when we were allowed to have comedy.

  6. }}} they were still allowed to make fun of wokeness

You’re still allowed to make fun of wokeness, you just have to be ready to tell the mofo SoBs off.

    😀

    Serial?

With Martin Mull, Tuesday Weld, Sally Kellerman, Bill Macy, Christopher Lee, and a lot of other character actors…?

    “Paco? Paco from El Pero?”

Definitely making fun of the absurdities of Marin County life… in 1980. 😀

Good movie, lots of subtle humor. Not hilarious, just a routine succession of smiles. Typical Martin Mull.

The Woke will be offended. But then, “’twas always thus… And had it not been thus, ’twere inevitably thus.”

The Woke are a variety of bully. The only proper way to deal with a bully is to step on their toes and complain to them about them being underfoot until they apologize for their big, fat, feet.

  9. }}} jon favreau before iron man made him huge

I’ve seen “Go”. Jon’s always been pretty big 😀

And Piven is great when he gets to be a wiseass. His part is tiny, but he’s easily the best part of Rush Hour 2. And if you have a chance to see the short 1999 series “Cupid”, he is literally awesome.

  10. }}} If you really value free speech you need to move to California. At least, that’s what Gavin Newsome says.

Taking advice from a liberal. You’ve pretty much already got to be a liberal idiot to do that.

I hope it happens (aka: “Byeeee, Felicia!”), we can back Florida off from being a purple state and back to the blue/GOP** state it has historically been.

    =====================
** Who realizes that the merdia flipped the colors in 2000? Yup. Historically, for the 20th C., red was Dems and blue was GOP. But, back then, “red” meant socialism, and socialism was BAAAAD (how things have changed… 🙁 )… so the merdia quietly swapped colors on everyone.

The only remnant of this I am aware of is that Dave Leip’s Election Atlas still uses the old colors — his site was already well established back then.

  11. There still is SOME humor out there…as Gavin Newsome’s standup routine (detailed above) clearly demonstrates.

This next also might qualify (if under the “Canadian Humour” sub-category):
“Jagmeet Singh Criticizes Liberals On Inflation, Again Forgetting That He’s Keeping Them In Power”—
    https://spencerfernando.com/2022/07/05/jagmeet-singh-criticizes-liberals-on-inflation-again-forgetting-that-hes-keeping-them-in-power/

And this one, while quite a bit more sobering, has the irony meter, if that’s your thing, up into the stratosphere:
“Queer-owned business shut down by employees for not being woke enough”—
    https://www.libsoftiktok.com/p/queer-owned-business-shut-down-by

So humor IS out there, but one has to really look…
(The “Babylon Bee” continues, of course, to be your major, one-stop source…)

  12. >back to the blue/GOP** state it has historically been

I suggest that Conservatives/Anti-Leftists stop using Red State/Blue State terminology, to fight the Left’s War Is Peace M.O.

  13. Saw a new whopper yesterday in a poll I was taking about political issues.
It asked if I supported “gun control rights”, i.e. restrictions on gun ownership.
