  1. One positive phenomenon from the Depp/Heard case has been an uptake on Youtube lawyers banding together to give their opinion on the case as a whole. A few of them have even gone into the court during the trial to give their viewpoints on the jury, reading their expression and body language.

One thing I’m grateful for the coverage is you now get a multifaceted view of the trial not just the view of the law but how it is operated and how it can be gamed.

For instance I didn’t know until watching the Lawtuber comments that each side has to manage their time. Both Depp and Heards team was given 60 hours each to prove their case, rebuttals and for cross examination. Heard’s team was awful in managing their time so they only had a few minutes left in their clock before they closed while Depp’s team had hours left in their time so they could have brought in more witnesses to counter Heard’s team with no cross examination from Heard’s team which would have been a massive advantage.

  2. Of course these days he’d have to add

“and which side will get them the most smeared in the media and possibly attacked by some mob in a crazed riot.”

  3. the first paragraph
“The day of the Uvalde shooting, a US military MC-12W recon plane left FortHood/Killeen at 10:15am CT. It approached the Uvalde area & landed at 11:25. At 12:48pm, the plane took off and returned to Ft Hood.”

So, how did the shooter afford the guns and ammo?
Who and why was that door propped open at such a timeline manner?
    and
Why would a US military surveillance plane be in the area?
    Enquiring minds want to know.

    What is going on?

  4. The accuracy of Frost’s observation is a reflection of humanity’s feet of clay.

Every prospective juror in which a felony is charged should first have to watch the movie “Twelve Angry Men”.

While the movie is playing, hidden cameras, microphones and recorders should allow the judge to review every prospective juror’s demeanor and words. Any juror, who while watching the movie, exhibits disdain or disinterest should be dismissed by the judge from the jury pool. The lawyers should then have to pick jurors from the remaining pool.

Lawyers will ‘lawyer’, having a compelling interest in the case. The judge and the jury should be as objective as possible.

  5. Should prospective jurors have to be hooked up to a polygraph or have an exam using sodium pentothal too? No one expects the Spanish Inquisition?

  6. This has nothing to do with lawyers or juries, just another sick detail about the Uvalde shooter: he liked to kill cats. “Disturbing new video obtained by The Post shows demented Robb Elementary School shooter Salvador Ramos grinning as he holds up a bag of blood-soaked dead cats. The deranged 18-year-old gunman is seen smiling in the undated footage while sitting in the passenger seat of a pal’s car — holding up a clear plastic bag with at least two bloodied cats visible inside. . . . ‘The shooter was known for hurting cats,’ said David Trevino Jr., who is related to the shooter’s grandmother by marriage . . . ‘He liked hurting animals,’ Trevino said. ‘I’m told he killed the cats and carried around the bag of bodies for s–ts and giggles. The video shows he was not right in the head,’ he added.”

Neo asked earlier as to whether Ramos selectively targeted girls. It seems likely. From the same Post article: “One classmate said Ramos had a tendency to be ‘violent towards women’ and was described by an ex-girlfriend as ‘scary.'”

I didn’t watch the video. I’m looking at my two cats sleeping nearby as I type and don’t need to raise my blood pressure any higher.

  7. PA+Cat,

    ***Trigger Warning***

Your comment reminded me of a [US, nationwide?], public service- announcement-, once on TV.

The PSA showed you a series of pictures of a boy, at different ages.
The narration of the PSA went something like this:

“At 6 years old, he poured a can of motor oil into a tank of frogs.
At 14, he killed a number of dogs, for fun.
…And EVERYONE knows what he did at eighteen!”

(Then the camera turns to a photo of the serial killer, JEFFREY DAHMER.)

    The PSA then says:

If you see someone doing a cruel act(s) to animals, or violence to animals- REPORT IT to the Police, or to The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

  8. Those lacking in imagination most resent those who suggest the possibility of beneficial change for it exposes the mediocrity of their imagination.
Though fictional, Salieri’s resentment of Mozart in the movie Amadeus being the most illustrative example of such.

Perhaps they were not coups of the “military” variety; but what is certain is that members of the DOJ and Law Enforcement agencies were involved, as well as those Congress-Critters who were in charge; in addition, General Milley may well be guilty of in subordination if not sedition…).

It is not imagination that is lacking (as you didn’t consider how your latest grand idea could be implemented), rather it is the foolishness of your self assurance.

Visiting Tokyo, Biden told journalists: “When it comes to the gas prices, we’re going through an incredible transition that is taking place that, G od willing, when it’s over, we’ll be stronger, and the world will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels.”

  14. Kipland Kinkel was another one notable for bizarre cruelty to animals. As was Jeffrey Dahmer.

As was Edmund Kemper, who liked to bury cats alive, wait until they were dead, dig them up, and behead them.

  15. }}} Every prospective juror in which a felony is charged should first have to watch the movie “Twelve Angry Men”.

Indeed. AND it should be legally required that they be fully informed of their rights and responsibilities as jurors, something which not only is NOT done but cannot be even suggested by the defended or his attorney.

In actual fact, if you DON’T want to be a juror, you don’t have to lie at all, no matter your circumstances. All you have to do is say, during Voir Dire, that you are aware of your rights and responsibilities as a juror, and you fully intend to vote your conscience. You will be excluded as a result by the prosecutor, and/or possibly even by the defense.

  16. }}} Actually…come to think of it, Paul Krugman is never REALLY needed….

    NOT TRUE.

As with the “broken analog clock”, there are always circumstances in which Krugman is needed.

For example: if I had a six foot deep hole in the ground, he could be very very useful in helping to fill it. :-9
