Biden announces glove mandate
Two days ago Joe Biden called for mask mandates to stay in place:
“I’m reiterating my call for every governor, mayor and local leader to maintain and reinstate the mask mandate,” Biden said in remarks to the nation on Monday afternoon.
“Please, this is not politics. Reinstate the mandate if you let it down. And business(es) should require masks as well. The failure to take this virus seriously, precisely what got us in this mess in the first place, risks more cases and more deaths,” Biden said.
“Mask up. It’s a patriotic duty. It’s the only way we ever get back to normal.”
Today he announced the addition of a glove mandate, something that hasn’t been tried before:
“Prove you’re really serious and enforce a universal glove mandate,” Biden said. “After all, a hundred and fifty years ago, people used to wear gloves almost all the time. Don’t you remember? I certainly do. They knew what they were doing.”
And in fact, gloves do have a lengthy history [emphasis mine]:
By the time of the fourteenth century gloves had become an almost essential item for all members of polite society and even for the majority of the lower classes.
…[G]loves were worn in a particular fashion or at a specific moment as a symbolic gesture and failing to do so could be seen as an insult to ones hosts (specifically in high society)…
Men wore gloves to protect their hands while in battle or hunting but also as a display of wealth.
Women wore gloves as a protection from disease and to keep their hands soft and feminine.
So there is excellent precedent.
I hadn’t known the following:
Between 1500 and 1700 rich women would wear gloves at night to help keep their gloves soft and supple (coarse hands were seen as a sign that you were involved in manual work). These gloves were extremely thin and commonly made from chicken skin or for the extremely rich the paper-thin skin of unborn calves.
Chicken skin gloves? Ugh. At least we won’t have to deal with that.
In a surprise move, Biden named his son Hunter as the head of the glove initiative. When asked why, Biden repeated his earlier observation that Hunter is “the smartest man I know.”
And they both know gloves:

Republicans pounced, as they usually do. Ted Cruz tweeted, “Where will it stop? Hazmat suits?”, while Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez replied, “That’s the first good idea you’ve ever had, Ted. You’d look a lot better in one.”
Had me going there for a minute, Neo! Then I looked at the calendar.
Biden remembering something that was commonplace 150 years ago was a nice touch.

Loved it! You left out one little-known detail: the very-very-rich not only wore chicken skin gloves — they wore them with the pin feathers still intact! For that very light touch, of course! And to REALLY prove that they did not engage any manual labor!
I believe the mask mandate is worthless and should be removed. The glove should only be worn if you have a open wound. Viruses are ultra small, they travel by aerosol so if your breath can get through your mask, so can the virus. Size does matter.
Here is a not funny April Fools; Bidet does in fact impose a must wear gloves policy – and supported by many demonkrat governors, the media, etc., and the majority of citizens just obey it; no questions asked.

Women wore gloves routinely as recently as my childhood. The 1940s anyway. They also wore veils of fine mesh with hats. Men wore hats until Kennedy changed the style.

I don’t think the limited protection offered by face masks and gloves shows a sufficiently patriotic effort to secure public health safety. No more half measures!

No joke, the government facilities I work at mandate gloves, but only for the security contractors. Management need not even wear masks, because they might not be understood giving orders in an emergency.

If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with COVID-19.
Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.
Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it and dispose of it properly.

Non-medical, fabric masks are being used by many people in public areas, but there has been limited evidence on their effectiveness and WHO does not recommend their widespread use among the public for control of COVID-19. However, for areas of widespread transmission, with limited capacity for implementing control measures and especially in settings where physical distancing of at least 1 metre is not possible – such as on public transport, in shops or in other confined or crowded environments – WHO advises governments to encourage the general public to use non-medical fabric masks.

Maintain at least a 1-metre distance between yourself and others to reduce your risk of infection when they cough, sneeze or speak. Maintain an even greater distance between yourself and others when indoors. The further away, the better.
Make wearing a mask a normal part of being around other people. The appropriate use, storage and cleaning or disposal are essential to make masks as effective as possible.
Here are the basics of how to wear a mask:
–Clean your hands before you put your mask on, as well as before and after you take it off, and after you touch it at any time.
–Make sure it covers both your nose, mouth and chin.
–When you take off a mask, store it in a clean plastic bag, and every day either wash it if it’s a fabric mask, or dispose of a medical mask in a trash bin.
–Don’t use masks with valves.

After being in the out patient surgery yesterday in Dr’s office I’m convinced the MASK is here FOREVER!
Every single person in waiting room had been vaccinated and every single office worker had been also … everyone was required to wear a mask … period. I don’t see this going away ever.
Not a single person was there with any symptoms of covid.
BTW the Dr, nurses, office staff had gloves on … LOL
