All things China — 30 Comments

  1. To be fair to the MSM, they’d really, really prefer to be AGAINST the murderous, tyrannical policies of the Communist Chinese regime.

But since Donald Trump is AGAINST Communist Chinese policies (and absolutely FOR the country he serves as president), the MSM HAS NO CHOICE but to support Communist Chinese policies and the regime that orchestrates them.

    To be fair.

But given the feverish intensity of hatred, disgust and demonization that the MSM has been brewing, spewing, conjuring up and disseminating against Donald Trump for the past three-plus years, they have NO CHOICE but to support the CHICOMs—such is the belief in the MONSTER—they have created.

    To be fair.

And having expended so much time, so much effort, so much money and so much emotional health on their SHEER HATRED of Donald Trump (and making sure that EVERYONE feels like they do), it would surely be uncharitable to expect them to do anything less than support the CHICOMS, the MULLAHS, the EU, etc., over the DEVIL, the SATAN, the ANTI-CHRIST—THE JEW!!??—they have created.

    To be fair.

(One’s mileage may, of course, vary. )

And so: IF Donald Trump had ANY sense of fair play, ANY EMPATHY at all—IF!!—then he would, very simply, IMMEDIATELY! declare his SUPPORT for the CHICOMS, so that the MSM—and the Democratic Party it shoulders—could FINALLY, FINALLY take a defensible position OPPOSING that repugnant regime.

So how ’bout it Mr. President?

File under: DONALD J. TRUMP —- the first TRULY Jewish president.

  2. China is in its internal state vastly improved in comparison to what was the case 50 years ago. Not only vastly more affluent, but far less cruel and abusive to its population.

Unfortunately, its government is also exceptionally devious and its elites and its rank-and-file appear to harbor bizarre and disturbing resentments against other parties, us included. We have one hope, and that’s that they keep their revanchism in check.

  3. “ To be fair to the MSM, they’d really, really prefer to be AGAINST the murderous, tyrannical policies of the Communist Chinese regime.”. This is nonsense. Thomas Friedman of the NYT editorial board is on record, on video, that he prefers the CCP Polit Bureau to the US Congress because they can “ get things done” unlike the sluggish pace of things in the US of A legislature. If you think the MSM isn’t effectively Communist under the covers at this point in time, you’re not paying attention.

  4. Paul in Boston:

IMO Barry was portraying the official public mask of the media which isn’t too hard to see through. Friedman of the slimes hasn’t been clever enough to keep his love of the communists and disdain for the US hidden. Keeping those trains running on time has always had a certain appeal to our betters in the elite media.

  5. NOTE:
CHINA HAS VIOLATED, AND CONTINUES TO VIOLATE, THE U.N./W.H.O.’ s “INTERNATIONAL HEALTH REGULATIONS” MEMBERSHIP COMPACT WHICH BINDS ITS SIGNATORIES TO FULL TRANSPARENCY AND PROMPT, THOROUGH DATA SHARING – INCLUDING UNIMPEDED CONTINUOUS INVESTIGATIVE COOPERATION – OVER ANY PUBLIC HEALTH OUTBREAK THAT ARISES WITHIN ITS BOUNDARIES FROM FIRST APPEARANCE THROUGH END OF THE CRISIS AND THEREAFTER.

THE CURRENT W.H.O. LEADERSHIP, STARTING WITH CHINA’s STOOGE D.G. TEDROS GHEBREYESUS, HAS THUS FAR REFUSED TO FULFILL ITS INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY TO ENFORCE THIS MEMBER REQUIREMENT AGAINST CHINA, WHICH CONTINUES TO FLOUT THE WORLD’S DEMAND FOR NEEDED VITAL DATA-SHARING AND INVESTIGATIVE COOPERATION ON THE WUHAN VIRUS THAT WILL ENABLE IT TO MORE SWIFTLY, EFFECTIVELY AND COMPREHENSIVELY FIGHT THE GLOBAL SCOURGE.

INSTEAD, CHINA BIDES ITS TIME SO AS TO POUNCE ON VALUABLE SOVEREIGN AND PRIVATE SECTOR ASSETS WORLDWIDE WHEN NATIONS, COMPANIES AND INSTITUTIONS HAVE BEEN DRIVEN TO THEIR KNEES BY THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC HAVOC WROUGHT BY ITS WILLFULLY-RELEASED HORSHOE BAT VIRUS (WHAT ELSE DO YOU CALL LOCKING DOWN INTERNAL MAINLAND TRAVEL – BUT ALLOWING VOLUMINOUS INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL FROM TO/FROM WUHAN – WITHOUT ALERTING THE REST OF AN UNWITTING WORLD TO THE PRESENCE AND DANGER OF THE VIRUS IN ITS MIDST)?

IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE THIS HAPPENING, REMEMBER THAT CHINA WAS STEALTHILY DEPLOYING ITS MAJOR OVERSEAS COMMERCIAL ASSETS TOWARDS CORNERING THE GLOBAL SUPPLY OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, MEDICINES AND SUPPLIES TO HOARD FOR ITSELF – ABOUT $3B WORTH – DURING THE CRITICAL JAN.-FEB. TIME FRAME WHEN IT WAS GULLING THE WORLD BY DOWNPLAYING THE EXISTENCE AND NATURE OF THIS CORONAVIRUS AND UP-PLAYING ITS OWN RESPONSE TO IT.

  6. The Chinese government and the MSM do share some traits. They are both deeply elitist and hold the masses of the population in contempt.

  7. Barry Meislin: To be fair to the MSM, they’d really, really prefer to be AGAINST the murderous, tyrannical policies of the Communist Chinese regime.

This is so off base i dont know where to start… so i wont…
suffice it to say they have a romance with china, like a man completely in thrall to a lady, she and china can do no wrong, and when it is wrong, its always for a good reason. This leftist love goes way back… way back to the books i recommended… after all frieda utley (the dream we lost)… After a visit to the Soviet Union in 1928, the Communist International sent Berdichevsky and Freda Utley on missions to Siberia, China and Japan, where she lived for nine months. In 1931, she published her first book, Lancashire and the Far East which established her as an authority on the subject of international competition in the cotton trades

IF people would have read her stuff, as Ronald Reagan and others did before she was erased, and people now help her stay erased, you would understand this about china and the progressives… they realized russia was not their model and had hoped their world experiment would be fulfilled with China… this is why they helped mao and helped defeat the nationalists… this is why they fall and fell all over each other to do deals and be a part, and constantly go over there, even if regular people did not..

In 1938, Utley published two books on Japan’s military attacks on China at the beginning of the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945). Japan’s Gamble in China, with an introduction by Laski, described Japan as “a police state, governed by a bureaucracy wedded to a plutocracy.” The News Chronicle made her a war correspondent and she spent three months in China in 1938, making two trips to the front line. Her 1939 book China at War idealized the Chinese communists. The work aroused considerable popular sympathy for China and helped foment poor relations with Japan prior to World War II. Her goal was to make for herself an international reputation and prove her communist credentials to free her husband. Author Francis Beckett includes a chapter on Utley’s ordeals in his 2004 book Stalin’s British Victims.

    .
.In 1945, Reader’s Digest sent Freda Utley to China as a correspondent. The trip resulted in Last Chance in China, which held that Western policies, especially cutting off armaments to the Chinese Nationalists, favored the Chinese Communist Party victory. She began a crusade to name those who “lost China”

The last of her studies of the Far East, The China Story, was published in 1951 and was a best seller for several months. Time magazine called Utley “a seasoned, firsthand observer of China events.”

In 1970, Utley published the first volume of her autobiography Odyssey of a Liberal which recorded her early experiences in Fabian Society circles, education, marriage, life in the Soviet Union and travels up until 1945. She never published the second volume

[she also covered the middle east…]

  8. In some ways this mirrors the naiveté of the State Department in Iraq. Yup, all cultures are just like Americans and yearn to be free. The presence of so many Chinese citizens here who are fully American proves that the problem is not being Chinese; the problem is being Communist. Chinese have been under the boot of Communists since the year of my birth. I don’t know how and when they might throw off that oppression.

  9. Upon her death in 1978, Time Magazine published an obituary of Utley. The New York Times mentioned a gathering of leading conservatives to pay tribute to Utley ten years after her death. In 2005, her son, Jon Utley, endowed the Freda Utley Prize for Advancing Liberty, administered by the Atlas Economic Research Foundation. Ten thousand dollars a year is bestowed upon overseas think tanks that promote economic liberalism and minimal government.

  10. Those who overlook, or are insufficiently informed about, the long-term aims of the Chinese Communist Party aka CCP, both economic and military, would do well to read Jonathan Ward:
    https://www.amazon.com/Chinas-Vision-Victory-Jonathan-Ward-ebook/dp/B07RV4VL8L

The fabled American Century is nearly over, and the CCP millenium is upon us. If Trump loses in November, the CCP’s victory is assured. We have seen with the corona virus the emergence of tyrant Democrats like Whitmer and the mayor of Houston, and they will go Full Speed Ahead if they have the House, the Senate and the White House.

  11. Art Deco: China is in its internal state vastly improved in comparison to what was the case 50 years ago. Not only vastly more affluent, but far less cruel and abusive to its population.

you have no idea… how would you know this? this is so not true… 50 years ago, you could know, now you cant… 50 years ago, it was unrefined.. now its not. what would Hitlers machine be like if it survived unhindered to today? would you claim the same beacuse its polish is in place? its evils hidden? your press paid and half of it owned by him?

The People’s Republic of Cruelty – New York times.

Every now and then, when credulous Western observers aren’t fawning over China’s high-speed rail network or calculating the precise moment when its economy will become the world’s largest, a news story breaks through to remind us that the People’s Republic remains what it has always been: a place of fear and cruelty.

Writing from Hotan, a city in the western province of Xinjiang, Buckley describes a system of internment camps, brainwashing programs, and pervasive surveillance, all aimed at the region’s Muslim majority, mostly ethnic Uighurs. The overall approach, he writes, is “reminiscent of Mao’s draconian rule — mass rallies, public confessions and ‘work teams’ assigned to ferret out dissent.”

    [snip]
Put another way, what stokes Beijing’s fears and stirs its fury, whether in the streets of Hotan or the house churches of Shanghai, isn’t political opposition in the ordinary sense. It’s the concept of conscience. It is the thought that good and bad, virtue and vice, fall beyond the scope of the regime’s rightful authority and are not things it gets to define for itself and its subjects. To render unto Caesar cannot mean rendering everything unto Caesar. There are things that cannot be surrendered — your soul, above all — no matter what the regime’s power is to squash or suppress them.

Every week, Ms. Gul added, a neighborhood official visited and spent at least two hours interrogating her. Eventually, the authorities sent her to a full-time re-education camp

China forcefully harvests organs from detainees, tribunal concludes
China’s organ transplant trade is worth $1 billion a year, according to a tribunal. This story contains details some may find distressing.

The organs of members of marginalized groups detained in Chinese prison camps are being forcefully harvested — sometimes when patients are still alive
    [snip]
“Forced organ harvesting has been committed for years throughout China on a significant scale,” the tribunal concluded in its final judgment Monday. The practice is “of unmatched wickedness — on a death for death basis — with the killings by mass crimes committed in the last century,” it added.
    [snip]
Allegations of forced organ harvesting first came to light in 2001, after a boom in transplant activity was registered in China, with wait times becoming unusually short, the statement said. Chinese websites advertised hearts, lungs and kidneys for sale and available to book in advance, suggesting that the victims were killed on demand, it added.
    [snip]
The statement recalled how one witness, Dr. Enver Tohti, told of how as a surgeon in China he had been required to perform organ extractions. Referring to one instance in which he extracted an organ from a living patient, he said: “What I recall is with my scalpel, I tried to cut into his skin, there was blood to be seen. That indicates that the heart was still beating … At the same time, he was trying to resist my insertion, but he was too weak.”

  12. The funny thing is, that before the communists took over there was a large missionary presence in China and there were many people with experience who spoke the language. One of our neighbors when I was growing up had served in China during WWII and I learned some characters from the book of basic Chinese that he brought back to the states. The US has had a long and varied relationship with China and I don’t think that is at an end.

  13. There is a long history of Western ‘Elites’ using China as an idealized stick with which to beat their ideological enemies at home in the West. This goes back at least as far as Voltaire’s Philosophical Dictionary in which he has multiple entries making use of some kind of Platonic Ideal of Government by Mandarin (i.e. people like one certain Voltaire perhaps) as a foil to failings in the French State of his day.

Didn’t take many more years for traders and diplomats (e.g. Macartney) to bring back more nuanced reports — e.g. Chinese shit did not all smell like roses and these fabled Mandarins tended to be grossly obese (see photos mid C19) corrupt degenerates who often died in middle age from whatever their local equivalent of a Surfeit of Lampreys might be.

As some above have pointed out, nothing much has changed. Our supposed betters today are using China as a stick with which to beat us riff-raff. The amount of nonsense I read from the Friedman types (he really is a Tool) about the miracle of high speed rail in China blah blah drives me nuts. Same people who laud this would be the first launching eco challenges back home in the West.

(Aside… one reason HSR is so popular in China is that at least it departs on time. Flights are often delayed randomly for many hours because some CCP royalty is flying and huge chunks of airspace get shut down while they’re in the air.)

Add to this the US Elite’s (I laugh) propensity to fall for the biggest con-men and grifters out of every country on earth and then totally mis-grok the countries they claim to represent and you end up with true comedy gold. Go back and read the arrant nonsense FDR and others of his era spouted about China. They were totally sucked in by devious shysters like T V Soong and his daughters (kind of like the Mitford Sisters, except Dragon Ladies :P).

And so the beat goes on.

The Dodger can be a a bit of a ranter (not that I’d know anything about that) but he has the right of it here.

  14. As to what the Chinese are really like and what do they really think and what do they really want?

Well, how long is a piece of string? And how much can a koala bear?

However, can be fairly certain that they are not like columnists in the Atlantic, and they do not think that all men are created equal or that all races are the same, or that the future is global governance by deracinated bureaucrats, and it is very unlikely that they want Homosexual Marriage and Mandatory Trigger Warnings.

In general we should never make the mistake of thinking that Others (yes, I mean you too, you fraudulent Dead Palestinian Wanker) are like us or that they think like us. They are not and they do not. And wishing it otherwise won’t make it so. Trying to make it otherwise will make us more (not less) hated.

  15. The difference between us and China is the citizens here have 300 million guns and a trillion rounds of ammo. At least.

    No tianeman square here.

I lived in China 2008-2011. They are still ruthless, the CCP.

And Tom Friedman is an idiot. Never waste a moment of your precious life reading a word he writes.

  16. Artfldgr,

The NYT’s covering of the ChiCom’s treatment of the Muslim Uighers is accurate but decidedly incomplete. Totalitarian systems, like predators don’t tolerate competition from predators of a different species.

A central element of this campaign is uncertainty. It is difficult to judge which of these items are official policy and which are simply the result of ad hoc decisions made by local officials. This is likely by design.

Soviet Russia had impressive production statistics… starvation and forced labor would do that… just as fear does it too… do your production statistics include a column of number of organs harvested from live people without anesthetic? or number of prisoners used in experiments to make better poisons?

BOTH those are well known practices..

and do your production numbers include this?
    Capital Punishment in China
The statistics are less unflattering for China when view per capita. China has the largest population on Earth with 1.3 billion people; 5,000 executions would mean one in every 260,000 residents. In the U.S., the rate in 2010 was one in every 6.7 million. Iran and North Korea executed about one in every 300,000 and 460,000, respectively.

    There is also this…

China Killing Prisoners To Harvest Organs For Transplant: BMC Report Accuses China Of ‘Falsifying’ Data
[oh, the data that Art Deco likes to refer to!!!!]
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2019/11/16/china-covers-up-killing-of-prisoners-to-harvest-organs-for-transplant-new-report/

“forced organ harvesting has been committed for years… on a significant scale.” China has said that the practice has been outlawed, replaced with a system of voluntary donations. But a new report, published on November 14 in the BMC Medical Ethics journal, has refuted this, alleging that those claims of reform are being supported by the “systematic falsification and manipulation of official organ transplant datasets in China.”

yes… we all know how truthful hitler was, how truthful mao was, how truthful castro was, how truthful even american socialists are… Art Deco will tell you.

The witness reports were horrific—including organ extractions on live victims, subsequently killed by the procedures.

Why waste pain killers on people your murdering?
just tie them down and slice out the parts you need…

“the anomalies in the data examined follow a systematic and surprising pattern—the close agreement of the numbers of donors and transplants with a quadratic function is remarkable and is in sharp contrast to other countries who have increased their activity over this period. I cannot think of any good reason for such a quadratic trend arising naturally.”

Art Deco can explain it… he studies these numbers a lot and believes them
so Art… please let us know how you know when we are naval gazing?

you can see they use the mid-evil method of putting signs on people
    https://d.newsweek.com/en/full/278725/china-death-penalty.jpg

“I am an executioner. When the assignment is handed down, I only know the number of people, each of whom has been assigned a number. I don’t know their names and I don’t know their crimes. We only go by the numbers. When the prisoners is turned over to us, we have only several minutes of contact with them. On the transport vehicle, the public security officers may attempt to chat with the prisoners in order to put them at ease. But we are not allowed to speak to them at all.

“Sometimes, the criminals will tell us, ‘When the moment comes, please do it as quickly as possible so that I won’t suffer.’ Actually, even if I wish that I could torture these evil people, we have our discipline and we have only one bullet in the gun. When the moment comes, our only thought will be to get it over with that one shot. This is the right conferred to us by the people, and we are proud of it. When the gun goes off, things go red everywhere. Sometimes, the brain tissue of the prisoner may splash back onto our faces and that is really disgusting. Sometimes, people may take a while to die. At those moments, I have an indescribable feeling about how easily a person’s life can be terminated in such a pathetic manner.”

The armed policeman who uttered those words is only 24 years old. He has already executed 23 prisoners. He said that his strongest reactions after executing someone is, “Never commit crimes! Never become an enemy of the people!”

want to hear about how they spy on people next and how they monitor them?
want to hear what is illegal?

my Chinese family are naval gazers too…

  22. AND on your method of knowing

Lies, Damned Lies, and Chinese Statistics – Foreign Policy
    Who’s cooking Beijing’s books?
[no one, Art Deco knows more than the great Karnac]
how accurate are the statistics that illuminate China’s growth? Even Li himself has said (as quoted in a U.S. State Department cable published by WikiLeaks) that China’s GDP figures are “man-made” and therefore unreliable.

China’s official figures: lies, damned lies or just changing statistical methods?
Economists say it’s hard to know what to believe when calculations stop adding up and the government keeps moving the goalposts [they should ask art deco]

In figures published on Friday, the National Energy Administration said the country’s primary industry (the official term for the agriculture sector) used 6.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in June, an increase of 6.6 per cent from the same month of 2017.

The problem, however, is that 12 months ago, the same agency said the agriculture sector used 12 billion kWh of electricity in June. If that were the case, this year’s figure would represent a drop of about 46 per cent.

so which is it Art Deco? did it increase, or drop? please let us know so we can write the smarter people who juggle these numbers and they can know as much as you do.

“The new methodology is so magical it can transform a sharp drop to an increase” – Economist Ma Guangyuan

Acasio Cortez will apply the same methods to make sure all Americans are rich!

as he knows, through these numbers that all is GREAT…
which is why he wants communism… if not, then he is very foolish

we are not gazing at our naval…

  23. hey Art decco… did you know that you cant even get a decent map?
that owning a compass can put you in prison?

Due to national security concerns, the use of geographic information in the People’s Republic of China is restricted to entities that obtain a special authorization from the administrative department for surveying and mapping under the State Council.

GCJ-02 (colloquially Mars Coordinates: ‘Topographic map non-linear confidentiality algorithm‘) – a geodetic datum formulated by the Chinese State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping, and based on WGS-84. It uses an obfuscation algorithm which adds apparently random offsets to both the latitude and longitude, with the alleged goal of improving national security. GCJ-02 appears to use multiple high-frequency noises of the form 20 n sin ? ( 180 k × l a t r a d ), effectively generating a transcendental equation and thus eliminating analytical solutions.

A marker with GCJ-02 coordinates will be displayed at the correct location on a GCJ-02 map. However, the offsets can result in a 100 – 700 meter error from the actual location if a WGS-84 marker (such as a GPS location) is placed on a GCJ-02 map, or vice versa.

    thats how deep lying goes…
to the length of total paranoia…
but its national security that its own people cant use maps to fight back
they know we have accurate satellites, so its not for the world..

Under One Country Two Systems, legislation in mainland China does not apply in Hong Kong and Macau SARs and there are no similar restrictions in the SARs. Therefore, the GPS shift problem does not apply. However, at the border between the SARs and mainland China, the data shown by online maps are broken where the shifted data and correct data overlap. This poses problems to users travelling across the border, especially visitors not aware of the issue.

    our navels are great…
