Hillary Clinton dons the latest fashion accessory: the tin-foil chapeau

Yesterday’s words of wisdom from our president-in-exile, Hillary Clinton:

She was referring to Tulsi Gabbard, who fought back by saying:

Gabbard is a strange amalgam of things, and she’s not doing well in the Democratic contest at all, but one thing she is not is a Russian asset – or a wimp.

What’s going on here? It’s been three years since the election, and Hillary seems to have gotten stalled in her non-progress through the stages of grief. Is she really stuck in denial, anger, and conspiracy? Does she actually believe what she said? Or is it just a ploy and does she plan to run again? Or all of the above?

Her basic argument is that she lost because of Russian interference, and that’s been her song right along. In this case, she appears to be saying that Gabbard’s candidacy represents the Russian interference in campaign 2020. And Hillary isn’t just saying that the Russians are promoting Gabbard online, hoping she’ll be a spoiler against the eventual Democratic candidate and run as a 3rd-party candidate in order to allow Trump to win again. It appears that by use of the words “Russian asset” and “grooming,” Hillary is saying that Gabbard is a knowing and willingly cooperative participant in this tactic.

No wonder Gabbard let her have it.

What a long strange trip this campaign has been. And it’s barely begun.

    You mean that Hillary is no longer a, so called, progressive?

  2. “Asset” in intelligence circles doesn’t necessarily entail “knowing and willingly”, IIRC from various debates about Trump. Wiki appears to back this up.

    Ditto for grooming. IIRC, intelligence officers described the Trump Tower meeting as classic grooming. The colloquial use of the word, think of a pimp grooming a girl, implies the same.

    And “asset” means this within the intelligence community:

    There are different categories of assets, including people who:

    —Willingly work for a foreign government for ideological reasons such as being against their government, but live in a country that doesn’t allow political opposition. They may elect to work with a foreign power to change their own country because there are few other ways available.
    —Work for monetary gain. Intelligence services often pay good wages to people in important positions that are willing to betray secrets.
    —Have been blackmailed and are forced into their role.
    —Do not even know they are being used (so called “useful idiots”). Assets can be loyal to their country, but may still provide a foreign agent with information through failures in information safety, such as using insecure computers or not following proper OPSEC procedures during day-to-day chatting.

    The first three involved knowledge and willingness, and Hillary is well aware of that and is also aware, more importantly, that that’s what the vast majority of people understand it to mean. Hillary is, after all, speaking to the public here.

    And then there’s that fourth definition: “Do not even know they are being used (so called “useful idiots”). Assets can be loyal to their country, but may still provide a foreign agent with information through failures in information safety, such as using insecure computers or not following proper OPSEC procedures during day-to-day chatting.”

    Hmmm – who is the politician who best fits that particular definition? Hint: it’s not Tulsi Gabbard, and the person’s initials are HRC.

  9. Neo hits the highlight. Which is Hillary’s attempt to manipulate public opinion wandering off into tin-foil hat land. BTW, most “assets” not only know they are assets, but willingly risk life and limb to do so. But, the second most interesting thing about the exchange are the details of Tulsi’s counter attack.

    I always thought that Hillary’s brain was stuck in the Reagan Thatcher era. A woman leader can sell her compassion, but also must establish her toughness; or at least that used to be true. I’d rate this one as partial hyperbole from Tulsi.

    You could break this into pieces, but I think it is all of a part. The part that says the Dem party has been corrupt and sick for a long time, but Bill and Hill have taken it to new heights to such an extent that they personify it. Like the Wizard, they are so flummoxed by their failures that they are pulling back the curtain in some kind of last ditch effort.

    1.Of course. After all, a “fun person” is likeable enough.

    2. From what I have read, Hillary drinks a fair amount of alcoholic beverages. We all know that drunks are “fun people.”

  17. That actually was my first reaction to this ridiculous Hillary statement — that she’d had too much chardonnay. And as to “The View,” anything on that program should be ignored. I once dropped a gym membership because the women’s dressing room had the program on a large screen TV with the volume on high in the mornings when I was there.

  26. I have seen it mentioned that HRC and other Dems are trying to push Gabbard into an Independent run for Pres. The thinking is that a lot of independents like her and she would siphon votes away from Trump, thus electing the Dem. Who knows.

    After 2016 (or even 2008) that should have been put to rest. If Bill could have run in those years, he would have cleaned up.

  29. How is it playing within the Blue Bubble? A look at the comments in WAPO to the main article on the Hillary Russian Asset claim shows a lot of support for Hillary and a clear belief that the Russians are all powerful and aggressively working against Hillary and the US. That they are totally controlling Trump.

    Russia Russia Russia is the default mindset among a very large percentage of the Blue Bubble Inmates. A little confirmation bias goes a long way. Syria is the latest reinforcement. Cognitive dissonance has become so familiar to them that clear thinking feels threatening. The only acceptable response to any other explanation is anger.

    I think Hillary does have her faculties intact and feels comfortable, given the world she lives in, in making the claim.

    Another article in WAPO, As Trump reels, Democrats wonder which of their candidates can beat him, supports my belief that Hillary will run again.

    The MSM will find Democrat Governors to hype and who will surge, but none will emerge as a clear favorite. Warren will peak, Bernie has already peaked, and Biden will slide but will retain a lot of support. Kamala Harris turned out to have the mentality of an 18 year old.

    When their hyped Democrat Governors surge but none break out, the MSM will engage in non-stop praise of Hillary. By early summer the faithful will tear up at the mention of her name. She won’t enter any primaries, but will take the convention.

    She is likely to promise to serve only one term, to put things back in order, after which her VP, a former Democrat Governor Surg’ee, will take over.

    I think Trump will obliterate her and take both houses.

    After an impeachment that fails in the Senate, the Democrats will have boxed themselves into: “Give us the Senate so we can impeach him again if he wins.”

    The voters won’t.

Apparently she didn’t just toss off, unthinkingly, her allegation this past week that Hawaii Democrat Tulsi Gabbard is a “Russian asset.” In the face of widespread criticism, a Clinton aide, Nick Merrill, doubled down on Hillary’s claim afterward.

    But . . .

    As if she is driven to it and can’t help herself, Hillary Clinton is busy, right this minute, slaying the central premise of her own anti-Trump meme. She’s showing it up for the inane, conspiracist bigotry it is: to insist that having thoughts and policy positions that can be associated with someone else makes you that someone’s “asset,” or puppet.

    So the “superdelegates”… or whoever’s really running shit… try to keep Tulsi off the stage with arbitrary poll benchmarks.

    People didn’t like that, so now Warren surrogate Hillary Clinton smears Tulsi as skrull shapeshifter or a body-snatching pod person or some bullshit; so nobody listen to her or the Russians win.
