The Daily Show’s trailer for The Jussie Smollett Story — 20 Comments

  1. Wow — will the Fake Hate Crimes start making it into Real News? Or at least, Comedy News?
    That’s a start.

We’ll see whether there is any change in the excess Fake News, but I’m not betting on it.

Yes, definitely 3 min of fun.

  2. There is Jussie thrown under the bus and dragged a mile or two, he is no longer of any use.

  3. Even by Lifetime writing and production standards, they know the victim needs to drop the hoagie. Maybe Jussie should have hired Ben Rhodes to write a script for him.

  4. At this point most Democrat/progressive strategists have crunched the numbers and realized Smollett is insupportable and should be under-bussed ASAP.

  5. And of course when the next outrage comes along in about a month it will believed completely and this will all be forgotten.

  7. In support of my “correction” to Griffin, this comment I posted on another Jussie thread, because what you don’t name, you don’t think about (Orwellian Logic 101).

To you or me, Jussie’s tale probably sounds like just about the stupidest hate hoax yet. But that’s because we possess the conceptual category of “hate hoax.” So it’s easy for us to call up from our memories a long list of such instances that previously dominated the headlines (for example, in this year alone, Covington Catholic and poor Jazmine Barnes) and conclude that, wow, this one is even more self-evidently absurd than the UVA fraternity initiation gang rape on broken glass hate hoax that bedazzled the national press in 2014.

In contrast, The New York Times, for instance, has never even printed the term “hate hoax.” Instead, there’s just an Epidemic of Hate perpetrated by what Tom Wolfe would call the Great White Defendants…and then there are forgotten random incidents that didn’t quite pan out. But to the prestige press there’s no such thing as a pattern of purported hate crimes routinely imploding embarrassingly.

  8. AesopFan,

Yeah I agree with your point but I think a month is about right for this type of thing because they can’t be too close together so as people still remember the last one. Been about a month since the Covington kids until Jussie. The insane social media short attention span culture plays a big part in this.

It’s like the Kavanaugh hearings were so long ago we all gathered round the new fangled wireless to listen.

  9. Griffin, AesopFan: Dunno. Even a month seems a little short. Some number of workaday citizens noticed the Kavanaugh/Covington/Smollett hoax trifecta.

The hive mind should probably space things out a bit more, whatever the temptation.

But that’s the beauty of Trump. He has driven the hive mind crazy and it can’t help itself.

  10. These hoaxes have also shocked the right and stiffened its resolve.

It’s one thing to see a major hoax every year or two, but we had three big hoaxes in less than six months.

Speaking for myself, I didn’t vote for Trump in 2016 but I won’t hesitate in 2020 barring the usual fine print.

Perhaps the biggest advantage the Democrats had was not looking as crazy as Trump, but they have been bound, determined and successful in obliterating that edge.

    Second both your comments.
There actually have been more than a couple of hoaxes a year, but the MSM doesn’t cover them to where they stick in the memory.
These last three have been too big, too close together, and too crazy to paper over.

  12. How many Hate Crime Hoaxes have there been?

    https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2019/02/trumps_presidency_triggered_a_wave_of_fake_hate_crimes.html

The pattern is clear. In an ongoing effort to discredit President Trump and white conservative males, the bizarro left loves to fabricate stories that portray themselves as victims of hate. It’s a shameful practice that borders on mental illness.

The pattern became noticeable during Trump’s run 2016 run for the presidency. It was so bad the Daily Caller labeled 2016 as “The Year of The Hoax Hate Crime.”

But things really got going after Trump’s election. Here’s just a sampling.
    …[I counted 15 stories]

This is just a small sampling of the hoax crimes blaming Trump, Jews and white conservatives that have been properly investigated and reported since 2016. These examples don’t mean that all hate crimes against minorities are hoaxes. But it certainly means that all such incidents need to be investigated before the anti-Trump media wildly thrashes around taking the incidents at face value and giving them credibility. Enough is enough. Time to close this movie theater.

“Along with selective enforcement and media coverage of hate crimes, comes a plethora of hoax hate crimes. Here’s a list of 342 of them. In fact, hoax claims of hate crimes are now so common, I must admit my first response is to doubt the claim. ”

The “here’s a list” goes to http://www.fakehatecrimes.org/ which isn’t connecting for me; it may have gone off-line for some reason.

Here are some more, working, links, which also cite fakehatecrimes.org. Although 342 does seem like a large number, the last link below corroborates it.

“In writing a book about hate crime hoaxes, I found more than 400. Such frauds damage good race relations.”

Giving an h/t to you here, I stopped to ponder: Are you still “Neo Neo-con”? Should I credit “TheNewNeo”? Or just “Neo (not to be confused with the Matrix character)”?

What now? Smollett has been arrested. But will he be as harshly punished as his imagined perpetrators would have been? We know his defense will be robust. But what about the prosecution?

    Do Not Let This Go
If “conservatives” had a backbone, they would hold these cretins (all of them) to account. Inexplicably, Washington Examiner Magazine’s Seth Mandel believes Smollett deserves a second chance. Yikes. The Right must confront Smollett with the same intensity as Nick Sandmann’s lawyers have confronted the Washington Post. Otherwise, we can expect false lynching claims to disappear into the same memory-hole as false rape accusations—which is to say, they will continue to happen and no one will be permitted to remember or cite them when hoax hate strikes again.

Listen and learn, addled enablers of fraud. Fake Noose is a sick phenomenon that has run rampant across the country unchecked. I’ve chronicled the self-victimization pathology in my books, columns, and blog posts for years:

Columbia University, 2007. Remember black psychology professor Madonna Constantine? …The hate-crime probe hit a dead end, and Constantine faced no criminal charges over the Fake Noose incident.

Baltimore Fire Department, 2007. Another manufactured outrage erupted when black firefighter-paramedic apprentice Donald Maynard claimed he found a knotted rope and threatening note with a noose drawing on it at his stationhouse. .. Maynard faced no criminal charges over the Fake Noose incident.

Salisbury State University, 2016. Students, faculty, and administrators were horrified when a stick figure hanging from a noose on a whiteboard was discovered at the school’s library. … Prosecutors declined to file criminal charges against the Fake Noosers.

In the wake of Smollett’s folly, media sensationalists bluster that there’s no way they could have known they were being strung along. Thanks for the valuable admission, elite news professionals, that you are not only dumb and blind but incompetent to boot. It doesn’t take a fancy journalism degree to learn from the long, sordid history of Fake Noose:

When you’ve seen one social-justice huckster, you’ve seen ’em all.

  17. It may be progress that the fake crimes are getting play on leftist shows, but I see a more nefarious motivation to this Daily Show segment. It still makes no sense to me that Smollett would set this thing up to increase his salary. I believe his motivations were political, and this may have been coordinated with the lynching-as-hate-crime bill that Booker and Harris were pushing. By making light of Smollett, and framing him as a loser who was feeling sorry for himself, it diverts attention to the other possible explanations.
