Anti-Semitism on the rise in Germany — 37 Comments

  1. Fritz Perls, a German Jew as well as a psychoanalyst and one of the founders of Gestalt Therapy, left Germany in 1933 despite his analyst’s efforts to convince Perls he was being paranoid.

Perls didn’t name his analyst but according to wiki it was no less than Wilhelm Reich, the very controversial founder of Reichian Therapy and inventor of the Orgone Box.

Reich (also Jewish) left Germany for Austria after Hitler became Chancellor, then bounced around Denmark and Norway until he managed a visa to the US and was on the last ship to leave Norway before WW II began in September, 1939.

  2. I’d have to look it up but my impression is that antisemitism is on the rise among regular Germans, as well as regular Europeans, under the guise of anti-Zionism.

  3. I lived in Germany for five years, worked with and lived among Germans, and am not sure that they aren’t just using Islamists (whom they also dislike) as proxies for their own feelings.

We used to visit the Jewish museum in Berlin. It has a big rack of short biographies of German Jews who lived mostly between the wars. They were prominent in every area of German life.

I also have a book at home (Hitler’s Jewish Soldiers is more or less the title) that talks about how fully Germanized most Jews were by the beginning of WWII. Many of the them had served in the army of WWI, and many were shocked–even insulted–when they volunteered for the Wehrmacht and were turned down for their Jewishness.

I’ve often wondered if there was a latent anti-Semitism that was aroused during the German depression just before the war in the way we all like to blame someone else for our problems, or if Hitler was the particular cause. Or, perhaps both.

Whatever it was, once started, anti-Semitism became very strong, especially, in the university system that had once been so welcoming to Jewish intellectuals.

As a side note, there is an old farm manor in Dahlem that has been converted to a museum. It has a display of some of Hitler’s campaign posters. He sounded very much like a Democrat.

  4. The Jews were scapegoated by Hitler as responsible for Germany’s plight post WWI. A tiny, well off minority is perfectly positioned for a demagogue to use to seduce a majority devastated by hyperinflation in a depression.

  5. The origin of Muslim antisemitism directly extends from Muhammad, who justified it with Allah.

  6. Geoffrey Britain:

Actually, Muslim anti-Semitism is longstanding (and has foundation in the Koran), but despite that, for many centuries it was generally of a less virulent type than in Europe.

Until more recently, when it turned more vicious as a direct result of European and especially Nazi influence. The story can be found here (I read that book many years ago):

Lewis’s central thesis is that anti-Semitism is a relatively new phenomenon in Muslim lands, having arrived there in the 19th century mainly through Greek Orthodox and Catholic Arabs influenced by European and especially French anti-Semitic literature. Then, in the course of the 20th century, as a result of the conflict over Palestine and the impact of the West–in particular of Nazi and fascist models–Muslim Arabs became infected with European Christian and ultimately racist anti-Semitism. Today, in its vehemence, ubiquity, and obsessiveness, the Arab variant, while lacking the personal, visceral quality of its European forerunners, is reminiscent of Nazi anti-Semitism.

That is from a book review in Commentary by Robert S. Wistrich, who also writes:

…[I]t seems to me that in this book Lewis has slightly overstated the impact of Christian-European influences on Arab anti-Semitism and neglected its more local and indigenous roots. This is ironic, because few scholars are as aware as Lewis himself of the centrality of Islam in modern Arab ideologies and cultural traditions. It is not just a matter of the harsh anti-Jewish expressions in the Qur’an, or of the tendentious use of those expressions by contemporary Arab and Muslim ideologues in the war against Zionism. It is, rather, a question of the entire tradition of religious supremacy and triumphalism in Islam, as well as the related belief in Arab political superiority–notions which have profoundly shaped attitudes to Jews and Judaism. If Arab Judeophobia were not able to draw on such a rich legacy of Islamic religious literature and teaching, together with a long history of institutional discrimination, it is surely doubtful whether the integration of anti-Semitic themes from medieval Christian, populist, and Nazi sources could have proceeded so smoothly and effectively.

So we have a loop whereby Islamic Jew-hatred, which already exists in the Koran and Arab lands, is fed by European Jew-hatred (and in particular the Nazi variety), and in very recent years is going back to Europe—and Germany—through immigration from Arab lands, to reseed Jew-hatred there.

  7. huxley:

I think that “Jew-hatred” is a better term than “anti-Semitism” when describing the feelings of Arabs towards the Jews. That’s for the simple reason that Arabs are themselves Semites, and using the term “Jew-hatred” avoids the usual trolls coming onto a thread to say that Arabs can’t be anti-Semites because the Arabs themselves are Semites.

  8. Whatever it was, once started, anti-Semitism became very strong, especially, in the university system that had once been so welcoming to Jewish intellectuals.

Remember that early Bolsheviks were largely Jewish and this was one claim by Hitler and the other Nazis.

  9. neo: True about Arabs being Semites. So Jew-hatred certainly a better term in that respect.

I’m wondering if it’s become a term in general use, perhaps even preferred use. I just ran across it in the “Judenhass” graphic book by Dave Sim:

I decided some time ago that the term anti-Semitism (a ‘coined’ term of late nineteenth century origin) is completely inadequate to the abhorrent cultural phenomenon which it attempts to describe. For one thing, Arabs are Semites as well and the prejudice as it generally understood certainly doesn’t apply equally to Arabs and Jews. It was in the early stages of researching this graphic narrative that I first encountered the German term Judenhass. Literally, Jew-Hatred. It seemed to me that the term served to distill the ancient problem to its essence, and in such a way as to hopefully allow other non-Jews (like myself) to see the problem ‘unlaundered’ and through fresh eyes. Europe and various other jurisdictions aren’t experiencing a sudden upsurge in ‘anti-Semitism’. What they are experiencing is an upsurge in Judenhass — Jew-Hatred. So that’s what I’ve chosen to call this story. – Dave Sim, Writer/Artist/Publisher

  10. Rising anti-Semitism in Germany and, indeed, in all of Europe is but one of many destructive effects of Angela Merkel’s disastrous decision to welcome millions of Muslims into Germany, and other Western European country’s decisions to follow her lead.

I do not think it too strong a statement to say that within a generation or two–or perhaps even less time than that–Europe will become Eurabia, since–from the evidence–the largely emasculated, guilt-ridden post-Christian Western Europeans no longer have the will to defend their countries and their cultures.

They’ve simply let in way to many Muslims who have no intention to assimilate but intend to dominate the countries of Western Europe and don’t have the will to fight them, or somehow contain them, or kick them out.

Only in the countries of Eastern Europe–many of them with long memories of Islamic occupation and domination-has this suicidal policy been rejected.

  11. Back in my twenties when I was working my way through Modernist literature I was so sad to discover many of my heroes — Hemingway, T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, e.e. cummings — said mean things about Jews.

Such was the Western atmosphere in the 20s and 30s, even among intellectuals. Other countries didn’t become positively genocidal towards Jews like Germany, but mostly they didn’t help Jews fleeing the Nazis either.

I don’t know if people read “Ulysses” by James Joyce anymore, but something they are likely to miss today is that the main character and sympathetic hero, Leopold Bloom, was a Jew and how Joyce swam against the current of his time to create that character.

  12. Speaking of anti-Israeli, pro-Palestinian sentiment within the European intelligentsia, I remember my disappointment when Henning Mankell was on that ship o fools a few years ago which sought to allegedly “make a statement” by breaking some blockade… I can’t force myself to look up the details at this point.

But I’ve never been able to read Mankell’s crime novels nor watch the Wallander TV series since then. And when one stands back a little it’s disheartening how most of the Swedish crime novelists, over and over, have plots which adhere to politically correct lines. Most now feature female protagonists. If Arab immigrants are ever maligned it’s always a hoax, and the villains evil big corporate fat cats and their families, or someone who’s actually taking righteous revenge against being raped as a child by some cabal of rich white men.

Irony isn’t even the right word when one looks at what’s now happening in Malmo, at the Muslim gang-rapes of Swedish females — which they feel confident enough about to broadcast on YouTube, without shame. The bomb and grenade attacks against police stations…. meanwhile in Swedish preschool the female teachers attempt to train little boys to become little girls and little girls to become — little hitlers, in effect.

Forgive what may seem to be a rant. I’m Norwegian, by the way. I hate to see suicidal Scandinavian decadence. I’m trying to avert my eyes.

  13. We are now seeing, with this mass intake of Jew-hating Muslims, perhaps the real Angela Merkel – Product of Stasi-dominated East Germany and its state-sanctioned Jew-hatred.

This “Professor” just has enough savvy to have the hatred manifested by proxy.

At least Corbyn’s Labour Party is more honest about its exterminationist Jew-hatred.

  14. If, East German Communist that she was raised as, Merkel hated the West and democratic West Germany, she could devise no more effective way to destroy them than by allowing massive Muslim migration and settlement in Germany and encouraging it elsewhere in Western Europe.

I note, too, that Merkel is childless.

I suspect that, if she had a child, and thought about it’s future, she might not be pushing this policy of allowing massive Muslim migration into Germany.

You can’t fight something-i.e. Muslim belief and fanaticism, with nothing and, as it stands, post-Christian Western Europe has, in essence, nothing.

The strongly held Christian religion, faith, and world-view that fortified and directed the Europeans of hundreds of years ago who fought and turned back prior Muslim invasion attempts has been very successfully attacked, subverted, and has now just largely evaporate

From what I’ve seen, only in Eastern Europe is that faith still vibrant, giving them the backbone to resist accepting massive numbers of Muslims into their countries.

  15. Mike K:

Early Bolsheviks were not “largely Jewish.” They were disproportionately Jewish, however.

Jews had a reason to want to overthrow the government, which had not been kind to them. The majority of Bolsheviks were not Jewish, however. But as I already wrote, Jews were found among them in significantly greater numbers than their representation in the population of the area.

Later Communists purged the Jews, of course.

Also, the Jewish population as a whole mostly did not initially support the Bolsheviks (including the Jewish ones). The early Bolsheviks/Communists were secular Jews rather than religious ones, as well.

From the voting data we do have it is possible to conclude several crucial points: First, the Bolsheviks had very little support among the Jewish population, possibly the lowest amount of any of the multiple parties vying for support “on the Jewish street.” And this was despite the fact that many of the Bolsheviks’ most important leaders were Jews–though Jews who viewed their Jewishness as an incidental artifact of their birth, with no meaning for them either religiously (as they were atheists) or nationally (as they regarded themselves as internationalists). Most famously, when Leon Trotsky was asked what his nationality was, he replied “socialist.” More Jews, though hardly a great number, supported the Mensheviks, the less radically Marxist half of the Russian Social Democratic Party, headed by a Jew, Julius Martov, who opposed Lenin’s stance on violent revolution but shared the Bolsheviks’ anti-nationalist stance. Far more Jews, though still a relatively small percentage of the population, supported the Bund–the Jewish socialist party whose stance on socialism was all but identical to the Mensheviks, but slowly adopted an idiosyncratic form of Jewish nationalism based on national cultural autonomy for the Jews of the Empire and dedication to Yiddish as the national language of the Jewish people.

Thus, in toto, the Jewish population broadly rejected socialism in any guise, Jewish or not, as the solution to the problems of the Jews in Russia…

Far more Jews, though still a minority, supported the liberal party known as the Kadets (the acronym for the Constitutional Democrats), who were dedicated to liberal constitutionalism, universal suffrage, and equal rights for the minorities of the Empire. In its early years, the party included several prominent Jewish intellectuals and lawyers in its leadership ranks, a matter which attracted a great deal of support from the Jewish population as a whole. But in the years before the Revolution the Kadets became more and more conservative, often siding with the Octobrists, a right-wing party that supported the monarchy, and therefore lost a good deal of its appeal among Jews

A few years later, however—when the provisional government was functioning—it gained a lot of Jewish support, for very good reason:

And so when the February Revolution erupted in early 1917 and Nicholas II unexpectedly abdicated the throne and Russia was declared a republic, run by a provisional government, the Jews–like the rest of the population–were shocked, as no one (not even Lenin) had predicted this result. But almost immediately, the new government proceeded to rule the vast former empire in a way congenial to the Jewish population. Most importantly, one of the first acts of the provisional government was to abolish all legal restrictions based on religion, race, or nationality: In one stroke, the 5-and-a-half million Russian Jews were emancipated, free and equal citizens of the realm. Soon, all restrictions on the freedom of speech, of the press, of assembly, of religion, disappeared, and the Jews (like everyone else in the new state) reveled in these new rights, issuing a plethora of new publications, artistic creations, newspapers, political platforms from left to right. Admittedly the new government was shaky and divided, but its leaders represented precisely those elements of the pre-Revolutionary world–the moderate left and center–that the Jews found to their liking. And there is no evidence to suggest that they changed their minds–including still supporting the War effort–in the fall of 1917, when the provisional government began to fall apart, more and more replaced by the Petrograd Soviet, made up of workers, soldiers, and professional revolutionaries–the latter, once more, including a good number of Jews who rejected their own Jewishness.

And so, as the October 1917 seizure of power by the Bolsheviks turned into the Russian Revolution, almost all Russian Jews did not support the new regime. Soon, elections were called for a Congress of Russian Jews and then for a Constituent Assembly promised by the Bolsheviks; in both these votes, the Jews stuck to their pattern in the earlier elections, supporting coalitions of Jewish parties representing the broad center of the political spectrum; the Bolsheviks still garnered only a small percentage of the Jewish vote.

So what happened? In the simplest terms, as the civil war broke out, the anti-Bolshevik forces soon became more and more dominated by the right wing and its blatantly and violently anti-Semitic supporters. Although early on there were some pogroms waged by Red Army troops, these were quickly and firmly condemned by the Bolshevik leaders (again, especially Trotsky, who was, after all, the head of the Red Army). In sharpest contrast, the White Army soldiers conducted massive pogroms against the Jews.

Hitler (and many others) have used the “the Bolsheviks were mostly Jews” argument to justify very vicious anti-Semitism. Here are some facts:

“For many years, neither Jews nor the authorities wanted to open up the subject, which became the stuff of myths for the ultranationalists, neo-Nazis and other anti-Semites,” said Boruch Gorin, chairman of Moscow’s Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center. “But now the time has come to look at the facts.”

[It is a]…fallacy repeated in 2013 by none other than President Vladimir Putin, who said at the museum that anti-Semitic persecution of Jews in the former Soviet Union occurred even though “the first Soviet government was 80-85 percent Jewish.” (In fact, it had one Jewish member – Leon Trotsky, founder of the Red Army)…

Regardless of the exact makeup of the first Soviet government, “there was great and undeniable enthusiasm among basically all the elements that made up Russian Jewry during the revolution,” said Gorin, who runs the $50 million state-of-the-art museum that last year won an award from UNESCO for its promotion of tolerance.

Though the first Soviet government — the Council of People’s Commissars — was mostly non-Jewish, Jews did occupy very prominent positions throughout the Bolshevik and communist chains of command vastly disproportionate to their percentage of the general population, Gorin confirmed…

“The observant Jews thought in 1917 that the communists would allow them to extend Jewish life, the Zionists thought the revolution would advance their goals and there was a feeling of liberation,” Gorin said.

But it’s not like Russian Jews ever really had a choice.

“At a time when the Red Army had posters denouncing anti-Semitism, the monarchists fighting for the czar had posters disseminating [anti-Semitism] as a pillar of what they were fighting for,” he said. The exhibition includes such posters.

Gorin says the exhibit “tells honestly and openly of how Jews did have an outsized role in the revolution. But it also shows that there were very good reasons for this.”

Similarly, were it not for the adoption of anti-Semitism by the Whites — the enemies of the communist Reds – “many Jews may well have made cause with the Whites, who were not all monarchists but included also democrats,” Gorin hypothesized.

  16. About the numbers of Jews remaining in Germany before the war – being mostly the elderly or their caretakers – I had read that in this book – W.D. Rubenstein’s “The Myth of Rescue”
    https://www.amazon.com/Myth-Rescue-Democracies-Could-Saved/dp/0415212499/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1522586693&sr=1-1&keywords=the+myth+of+rescue
His thesis was that most of Germany’s Jews had left by the late 1930s, especially the able-bodied young, and those who had any kind of income at all. They were not stupid, they could see the writing on the wall. But many did not go far enough; they went to France or Holland – and the war caught up to them, and by 1941, escape was nearly impossible.

His other thesis was that the US, Britain, etc were quite sympathetic to the plight of the German and later Austrian Jews, and did what they could in the depths of a depression which had affected their own countries very badly. Public opinion in the US ran very strongly against Germany’s treatment of Jews, as reported in the newspapers; the author included contemporary polling results on that subject.

  17. I go with anti scientism, anti authority, and anti Dear Leader: so no matter whether it is the Americans, Germans, Westerners, Easterners, or whatever, not going to jump on their band wagon cult of personality.

I’ve already seen where this train leads.

ENjoy your Roman gladiatorial Red vs Blue while it lasts.

  18. Jews had a reason to want to overthrow the government, which had not been kind to them.

Same thing the Zealots did that caused the destruction of Israel and the Israeli temple at around 70 AD.

That’s pretty strange in retrospective, because the only figure holding the Zealots back from declaring holy war against Rome was Jesus of Nazareth and the Jewish Sanhedrin convinced the Roman consular general to crucify the Jewish King because they said that this person would be the leader or cause of a rebellion against Roman Divine Authority.

This reminds me of what the Divine Counsel did to Ahab when they wanted him to be destroyed. One of the members of the Divine Counsel said that he would put a lying spirit into the advisers and prophets of Ahab. Ahab then believed that advice and got himself involved in a rather suicidal battle. This might have been attributed to the mere antics of Loki/Lucifer, if it wasn’t for the fact that a prophet of the High God Almighty Most High, already told Ahab that his advisers were listening to lying spirits.

The secularists that call themselves Jews, are even easier to manipulate in the Bolshevik context.

Jewish secular leadership is similar to Saul (before King David), and Jeroboam. Meaning, it’s a conflict of the secular/apostate leaders that call themselves Jews vs the majority of the tribe of Judah/Benjamine.

It’s not a democracy amongst Israel. A lot of internal fighting where one part, like Soros, kills and manipulates the other part. While Rome was winning, the Zealots were killing Jewish priests that were pro peace. That’s how stupid humans are.

  19. The state of Israel is not Israel as originally constituted. Original Israel is the 12 tribes descended from Jakob.

That means it isn’t just the Tribe of Benjamine and Judah, which is at most what is in Jerusalem and Judea.

The Sim book brought to my attention the profound Jew-hatred of Martin Luther, the German theologian who launched the Protestant Reformation – another piece of the puzzle for understanding Nazism and German Jew-hatred.

I somehow missed that Luther in my readings. Burned my eyebrows off.

You selectively “buy into” certain facts and documents, but not others I notice.

For example, you don’t buy into the personal testimonies of those who research or are researched under Mk Ultra like programs, probably because you believe they are crooked crazy special nutters that aren’t credible.

Meanwhile you will believe almost anything concerning dead people like Luther because of a book of some guy that wasn’t even living back then.

Human epistemology is as amusing as it is dead wrong.

Luther, btw, only launched his 95 Theses against Roman Catholic dogma of indulgences paid to free souls from purgatory. As a fanatic and true believer, his greatest work was probably translating the bible into German. Once the Germans could read the bible for themselves, they could use their own human interpretation on how the Jewish Sanhedrines and other groups killed off the early Christian saints and believers. The Vatican had only selectively told people what was in the bible, since much of it contradicted Catholic dogma. Thus people got into what you might call “conspiracy craze”.

What Protestantism didn’t protest was the apostolic authority of the Chalcedonian lineage. Both Protestants and Latin Chalcedonian Christianity, have the same problem. Both lack apostolic authority passed down from the past.

Luther was not against the Inquisition and its methods, as far as I know. There’s a long history of the Vatican using crusades and holy war to kill Christians like the Albigensians. If Christians can be killed by the Inquisition and Vatican, the Jews who are even more of a minority and weaker, isn’t much of a difficulty.

  21. Arabs aren’t semites. There aren’t any semitic peoples. The term semitic was invented by 18th century German linguists to apply to a family of languages including Hebrew, Arabic, Aramaic, and Akadian. It was never meant as a criteria for ethnicity.

In the late 19th century, a Jew-hater named Wilhelm Marr, who lived in the Alsace area that bordered France and Germany, borrowed the linguistic term to invent the eupehmism “anti-semitism” because it sounded more scientific and less vulgar than “Jew-hatred”.

Jew-hater and Jew-hatred are not euphemisms, they describe the phenomenon quite accurately.

  22. When I was stationed at Ramstein in Germany in the early 80s our small congregation on base would go down to the temple in Kaiserslautern to celebrate Shavuot with the locals. They were all very old, almost no children or young people among them at all. They said that Kaiserslautern had had a very vibrant Jewish population of over 10,000 before the war. When I was there there were fewer than 100 and they said when they died off there would be almost none.

We lived in the small town of Rodenbach several miles from the base and rented a house from a German and had all German neighbors. We had a lot of friends there but two things struck me in particular.

Of all the elderly Germans we met, many of whom had served in the war, we never met a single one who had fought the western allies. They all claimed to have served on the Russian front.

Many of the people we met had never met a Jew before and were very curious about us.

I had always had a bad feeling about Germany and when assigned there I left heelmarks all the way across the Atlantic Ocean.

All of that changed when we got to know them and it turned out to be the best tour I served during 20 years in the Air Force. You just never know.

It reminds me of the quote by someone or other that ‘Life is what happens to you while you’re making other plans.’

  23. Neo’s comment above, on April 1st, 2018 at 8:49 am, is very interesting indeed. I wondered about the source of the first two long quotes. They appear to be on-line on a few different pages, but in particular I found what seems to be a likely original source at

    https://israelbookreview.blogspot.com/2017/10/jewish-support-for-bolshevikism.html

This is a long, detailed discussion posted by a Stephen Darori, although there’s no claim that he’s the actual author. It looks well worth the reading.

  24. UPDATE. I was so enthusiastic about the article that I didn’t check the introduction. Apparently it is based on three books:

    “Thursday, October 26, 2017

Jewish support for Bolshevikism; Bolsheviks and British Jews: The Anglo-Jewish Community, Britain and the Russian Revolution, by Sharman Kadish Paperback (Routledge ); The Jewish Revolution in Belorussia: Economy, Race, and Bolshevik Power (The Modern Jewish Experience), Feb 13, 2017 by Andrew Sloin Paperback ( Indiana University Press), Russian Jews Between the Reds and the Whites, 1917-1920 (Jewish Culture and Contexts) Hardcover — by Oleg Budnitskii (Author), Timothy J. Portice (Translator) ( University of Pennsylvania Press)”

  25. Sure, a few guys at the top got the axe, but I’ve often wondered how so many of the tens of thousands of Nazis involved in the extermination of the Jews during the Holocaust escaped any punishment.

One might expect that some of the Jews who were not exterminated in the camps might have yearned to exact some payback, to do a little “exterminating” themselves and, indeed, right after the War some apparently did.

At least that is what a very graphic book I stumbled upon in a used book store by Johnathan Sack, titled, “An Eye for an Eye: The Story of Jews Who Sought Revenge for the Holocaust,” asserted.

An Eye for an Eye an obscure book that apparently no one really wanted to feature and review, but a book that was originally published by Basic Books/Harper Collins, and in which Sack writes that these Jews set up their own extermination camps, and treated those Germans–apparently not all of them Nazis–they rounded up and put in them, just as they had been treated.

Searching online for the title of this book to make it easier to find it in my “vast” library, I also saw that the BBC had broadcast a special on a British “Jewish Unit” that the British had formed during the last days of WWII; a Jewish Unit, some of whose members apparently did some free lancing, and supposedly assassinated around 50 low level Nazis right after WWII ended.

  26. It’s not much known but after WW II 12-14 million Germans were expelled from East and Central Europe and forced to return to Germany and Austria. I’ve sometimes seen it called “The Trek” or “The Long Trek.”

It was fairly horrific. Two million died of the hardships and payback. Granted, it’s difficult to muster much sympathy, but if two wrongs don’t make a right, it was wrong.

I’ve never run across a good treatment of German psychology after the war but I’d be curious to know. I imagine it has some bearing on Merkel’s immigration choices.

  27. A book on that expulsion was published in 2012, Orderly and Humane: The Expulsion of the Germans after the Second World War. A review can be read here. That “orderly and humane” was how the Allies in the Potsdam Agreement said the expulsions should be done; the review of the book shows the opposite happened.

  28. Snow on Pine:

What makes you think the Sack book is true?

It certainly is used as fodder by neo-Nazis. But most likely untrue, distorted, exaggerated. See also this:

How might a book of “history” from a tabloid publishing house be made? It would have a suggestive title that conjures up, and appeals to, old prejudices: An Eye For An Eye, say, since it echoes an anti-Semitic cliche that contrasts the wrathful Jewish God to the merciful Christian God. It would have an explanatory subtitle that promises a shock, the revelation of something suppressed, the story of a crime or some other malfeasance on a grand scale: The Untold Story of Jewish Revenge Against Germans in 1945 woulddo very well.

…It would have a sensational set of stories inside, riddled with exaggerations and misportrayals, and fundamentally misleading in their overall effect, but based on a nugget or two of truth. It would have an ostentatiously presented pseudo-scholarly apparatus of dense and bewildering endnotes, calculated to persuade most readers of the seriousness of the enterprise before them, and of the weight of the material behind the book’s indictments…To protect the author against the (truthful) charge of misrepresentation, our tabloid publisher’s product would have to include, tucked away in the voluminous endnotes, scarcely noticeable disclaimers that contain some of the truth that the book’s narrative systematically and colossally exaggerates and distorts. …

Read the whole thing, if you’re interested.

Sure, a few guys at the top got the axe, but I’ve often wondered how so many of the tens of thousands of Nazis involved in the extermination of the Jews during the Holocaust escaped any punishment.

Look up and into Operation Paperclip. Pretty self explanatory.

  30. It was never meant as a criteria for ethnicity.

    Humans do whatever they want.

Ancient Semitic languages are still studied, but now a days people treat Semitic as a type of ethnicity.

It’s mostly because humans are spineless in the vast majority. They go along to get along. They listen to what their peers and Authorities tell them and just copy cat it, then they get on a high horse to lecture others that this is all it ever was.

  31. Ymar Sakar.

Know about Paperclip, which skimmed off higher ranking Nazis who were thought to be useful.

I’m talking about the many more, run of the mill rank and file.

  32. I learned the hard way that my immediate rejection of something as ”not possible” could be wrong.

As an example, I once got the question, “Did the U.S. government award a medal to the Japanese soldier who planned the attack on Pearl Harbor?

I have both undergraduate and graduate degrees in East Asian studies, and I had read a lot of things, but never this. I did a little checking around and answered, “No.”

Six months later I got the same request, this time with a little more information.

Long story short, digging deeper I discovered that JFK himself had given a military award to Minoru Genda, the Naval aviator who had, indeed, been the chief planner of the attack on Pearl Harbor.*

After WWII Genda was part of the Japanese Air Self Defense Forces, a limited military organization that the U.S. imposed Peace Constitution set up and, eventually, Genda rose to command that organization.

The Legion of Merit award was given because as head of the JASDAF, Genda had served as a reliable ally, and this was a reward given at his retirement.

Some members Congress did object but, nonetheless, the award was given to Genda at the White house by JFK.

    * Excerpts from an article in the LA. Times, December 3, 1991 tiled, “A Sunday in December: The Planner, “Should Have Attacked Again,” Genda believed”:

“Asked at a 1956 London news conference if he had any regrets about the Pearl Harbor raid, he responded: “I have no regrets.” Then, after a pause, he added: “Yes, I have regrets. We should not have attacked just once. We should have attacked again and again. The mistake we made was in not occupying Hawaii with the army. If we had then gone on to make a surprise attack on the West Coast of the United States, we might have won.”

“Once, he asserted that Japan would have used nuclear bombs in World War II if it had possessed them. On another occasion, he declared that Japan would never have surrendered if the decision had been left to the military.

“Even if three or four atomic bombs had been dropped, the Japanese people were not the type who would surrender. We were determined to fight on to the days of our children and our grandchildren. But this was overturned by the Sacred Rescript from the emperor. Without the emperor, there would be no Japan today,” he said.”

  33. From the Wikipedia artidcle on Germany:

“Other religions comprising less than one per cent of Germany’s population[217] are Buddhism with 270,000 adherents, Judaism with 200,000 adherents, and Hinduism with some 100,000 adherents. All other religious communities in Germany have fewer than 50,000 adherents each.[228]”

(The current German population is about 82.8 million.)

Interestingly enough, the article also says that the official numbers for Muslims are probably underestimates, since citizens can refuse to state their religion — and, they believe, many Muslims do just that.
