Settlement in the suit by UVA fraternity against Rolling Stone — 19 Comments

1. I’d like to see prosecution of those who vandalized the fraternity house. Idiots probably still think they are SO righteous

2. Yes, they got off easy for was basically a clear cut case of pure libel.

3. Yeah, 50 million plus attorney fees should have been the fraternity’s opening offer with 20 million and attorney fees as the aim point.

4. Sometimes there is justice, but it is expensive. I fought the IRS for 10 years on my 2005 income taxes and finally won but it cost me thousands of dollars in legal fees.

5. Ray,

The bureaucracy has endless ‘free’ money when it comes to lawyering up. Its aim is to make you surrender because the cash in your wallet is finite.

6. Rolling Stone ought to go the way of Gawker.
Or, as someone elsewhere suggested, stick with druggies and musicians and stay out of politics.

7. Rep. Mark Walker says gunman targeted congressional baseball practice ‘to kill as many Republican members as possible’

“There was a guy that walked up to us that was asking whether it was Republicans or Democrats out there, and it was just a little odd,” DeSantis

[not odd if you dont want to shoot the (to the gunman) wrong side]

Maybe the assasination plays and bs like Griffen finally screwed the pooch and we are now in the start of the pseudo civil war period in which powers can be seized to ‘fix’ things – shall i list the countries where you can read about this process? (hint… see bohemia.. and others)

8. McCaulif said 93 million people
then corrected to 93 people a day

now, if you actually subtract the cities with the strongest gun control, you will find it drops to a very low number.

i said it would get to this point if there was nothing to halt, push, etc… but this is how communists change states. like termites, till the body poliic is weak, and the organs of the state are deseased, and the body suffers ystemic failures

but, i wont suprise you with what comes next!
i have given up on that and will be dropping back into the shadows with the other refugees and ex sovs. they knew better than i no one listens till AFTER the horrors and that happen… there is no way to stop because they have to accept certain premises about the system, about their own selves and incuriousness, and about their own ignorance and egos.

they cant.
they wont
they will fail

this is why you are not hearing from the experienced
they are experienced… they know its easier to leave
and if you cant, choose no side cause the losers suffer the neutrals suffer too, but not as bad.. and the winners may suffer after they lose too… so, better to be invisable if you cant prevent the level this has gotten to.

and the dems are so uncaring they are already using this as a gun control bid… sure… you think with an open border to south america your going to have gun control work? they will send over a hand grenade with every five purchases and, a pair for every kilo.

9. James T. Hodgkinson: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know
http://heavy.com/news/2017/06/james-hodgkinson-alexandria-gop-baseball-shooter-shooting-gunman-identified-illinois/

Hodgkinson, 66, is from Belleville, Illinois, the newspaper reports. A motive for the shooting is not yet known. Hodgkinson is in critical condition at a local hospital, CNN reports.

1. Hodgkinson Is a Supporter of Bernie Sanders & Democratic Socialism Who Wrote on Facebook, ‘Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.’

https://www.facebook.com/jthodgkinson?lst=18506000%3A1350932325%3A1497451717
features a banner image of Senator Bernie Sanders and a profile picture about Democratic Socialism. His profile picture says, “Democratic Socialism explained in 3 words: ‘We the People’ Since 1776.” [link above]

Facebook page includes several political posts, including one on May 24 asking for signatures on a Change.org petition calling for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to stop the NEXUS pipeline.

He also signed a petition on May 21 titled, “George H.W. Bush: Past Presidents Urge Congress to Launch Independent Investigation,” and shared that on his page as well.

On March 22 he wrote, “Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.”

Hodgkinson campaigned for Sanders in Iowa while the Vermont lawmaker was running for the Democratic presidential nomination last year, the Washington Post reports.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Orear told the newspaper. “I met him on the Bernie trail in Iowa, worked with him in the Quad Cities area.”

He said Hodgkinson is a “quiet guy,” “very mellow, very reserved,” who stayed with him at a fellow Sanders’s supporters home in Illinois.

10. Hodgkinson is a member of a number of anti-Republican groups on Facebook, including one called “Terminate the Republican Party.”

â–ª “The Road to Hell is Paved with Republicans”

â–ª “Donald Trump is not my President”

â–ª “President Bernie Sanders”

â–ª “Illinois Berners United to Resist Trump”

â–ª “Boycott the Republican Party”

â–ª “Expose Republican Fraud”

â–ª “Terminate the Republican Party”

Hodgkinson took a Democratic ballot in the primary election in 2016.

In 2012, Hodgkinson took part in a protest outside the downtown Belleville post office. He said he was part of a “99%” team drawing attention to the amount of money and political power the top 1 percent of Americans acquired.

Terry Beach, the executive director of the St. Clair County Intergovermental Grants Department, said Hodgkinson worked as a subcontractor in the department’s housing rehabilitation and weatherization program.

However he had been banned from the department, Beach said. Beach said he didn’t remember him well. It wasn’t immediately clear why Hodgkinson was banned from the department.

Hodgkinson has a varied arrest record in St. Clair County, for offenses such as failing to obtain electrical permits, damaging a motor vehicle, resisting a peace officer, eluding police, criminal damage to property, driving under the influence and assorted traffic offenses.

too bad neo wont copy this to a thread when she arrives..

11. if not for the actual act, this guy would be a archtype of leftist liberalism..

http://www.bnd.com/news/local/article156092134.html
“The best book I’ve read in a while is “Aftershock” by Robert B. Reich. He explains that the lowering of taxes on the richest Americans was a major cause of the Great Depression. He also states that it is a major cause of the Great Recession, which started in 2007.”

yeah, right. sure… that wasnt it, but hey, its erves the cause by the side that claims there are no morals and no right and wrong, EXCEPT when such ideas work in their favor.

he loves all, he is a rachel maddow super user
love riech…
bernie is his man
neo classic anti russian communist who could not label himself correctly if he tried.

12. When neo asked what is the next move, its civil war
as in slovakia, and czech republic and those exact changes we made here that prepared things for that happening… i put out all the links to the histories

now, we are moving into the civil war phase of the change to a socialist state…

The first skirmishes of a second American civil war have begun. No, this is not a metaphorical analogy to that bloody conflict that killed approximately 620,000 Americans. It is an objective statement of the reality in America.

Since the election of 2016, the left has gone crazy. Their version of the Tea Party is called “Resistance” and the spearhead of that is a loosely formed terrorist group called “Antifa.” Antifa is short for Anti-Fascist. The irony of their name is not lost on those who actually know history, as their tactics are straight from the fascist playbook.

In the last few months, these groups have repeatedly disrupted peaceful pro-Trump rallies. They have called for and used violence against people who support the president, disagree with them and even against members of the media who will report things Antifa doesn’t want reported.

Just a few days ago, a woman associated with Antifa attacked a police horse, using a flagpole with nails extending out from it. At the same incident in Pennsylvania, other Antifa terrorists had sharpened bamboo poles and baseball bats.

antifa goes back to east german stasi and stalins man willi munsenberg..

funny how i told you months before it hit the radar
sad its here and what do you think about the organizations that are so old and none are familiar with them, even though their lives have been shaped by these ghosts..

13. These lawsuits were against Rolling Stone. Now they should all file personal lawsuits against the specific reporter who was grossly negligent in confirming even the most basic facts of the story — like the frat didn’t even have a party on the date “Jackie” claimed to have been raped.

14. Deborah:

Actually, she was sued, too, in the Eramo lawsuit, and found guilty:

The 10 member jury concluded that Erdely was responsible for defamation even under the tougher “actual malice” standard of New York Times v. Sullivan, requiring knowing falsehood or reckless disregard of the truth.

The 3 million dollars in damages that were awarded included 2 million that were specific to Erdely. I can’t find the link now, but it is my recollection that Rolling Stone’s relatively deep pockets (or insurance money) paid Erdely’s fine.

15. Human justice is non existent. It’s better just to ask a higher power to slam down real justice and true infinite justice on these humans.

And the gods that they follow, too.
